  1. I'm going to the dr in a few minutes, because I have a tick bite and possibly an embedded tic in my leg. I know they will put me on antibiotics. Will this possibly interfere with my surgery in five days? I'm terrified that something will cause a delay!!
  2. I've not been sleeved yet, but I have a good friend who was sleeved 9 weeks ago. She just got back Sunday from a 10 Disney World trip. They went to the park EVERY day from open to close. I've been to Disney a few times, but I can't wait to do it post sleeve!! lol I think you'll do great!!

    Strict Doctor

I'm amazed at how differently every dr approaches this! My dr only requires liquids (not clear) one day...the day before surgery. Clear liquids are only while in the hospital, which should only be the day after surgery. From the time I get home, I am on full liquids (not clear) for 1 week. Then pureed for a week, then mushies, and then soft meats. Your dr is the strictest I've heard, and seems awfully excessive imho.

    Embarrassing Day!!

You're definitely not alone there! Looks like we're being sleeved on the same day, so we need to buddy up!!
  9. I went for my pre-op earlier this week, and I was kind of surprised when the surgeon said I would need someone with me all the time for the first 3-4 days after I get home from the hospital. Did any/all of you feel it necessary to have someone with you for that long?

    6 Month Supervised Dieters

My surgery is in 11 days, but I had to comment on the sleep. I really didn't think I had sleep apnea. My dh said he had never noticed me stop breathing, but I did snore a lot. I knew I wasn't sleeping well at all. I would awaken about 4-6 times/night to use the bathroom. I thought my bladder was just a mess. I would awaken at 3 most nights, and I wouldn't fall back to sleep at all. I was having weird symptoms that I thought were some sort of seizures...very odd. Then one night I was driving behind my husband on a hwy. He stopped at a traffic light in front of me, and I didn't! I rear-ended him with all 3 of our children in the car with me. The real kicker is that I didn't even remember it!! I kept driving! My family physician is a good friend of ours, and I told him what happened even though I couldn't remember it...but I knew 'something' happened. My kids were 'freaked out'!! and so was I. It was so weird, yet so scary. My dr sent me to a neurologist and sleep study. I really thought I was having seizures because I knew I was 'zoning out'. Sure enough I have sleep apnea even though it was minor in their terms. My first night with that cpap was the best night of sleep in my life!! I didn't even roll over and I slept 9 hours!! unbelievable! I still can't wait to get rid of the thing though because I do now roll over in the night, and it is annoying to adjust the hose as I do.

    Nickel allergy and surgical staples

Thanks to everyone for your replies! My surgeon called me this afternoon. He told me that he has performed VSG for 4 years and other forms of WLS for many more years than that. He said he has never had anyone have any problem from the staples. He also called a representative from the manufacturer, and he said that they have never had reports of problems from nickel allergies. He also said that the manufacturer would send him a copy of a study that was done regarding metal allergies, and he will send it to me. He was concerned because the representative hadn't emailed it to him, and he (the surgeon) was going out of town next week. He said he wouldn't have any access to his email while gone. I told him I was very satisfied with that because I feel as though my problems with nickel are minor. I told them that I feel ready to move forward. I was so impressed that he got back to me so quickly, because today was his day off. It was also in the way he talked to me, and the way he was willing to continue to investigate the matter if I needed him to for peace of mind. But I feel completely satisfied that it won't be a problem for me. Thanks again for your input.

    Liquid Diets

Have her check out newlifestylediet.com The shakes taste great! I did that once upon a time, but I wasn't able to keep it up. They have a couple of options...either full liquids, or two shakes a day and then a 'lean and green' meal. Their shakes really taste good.

    Nickel allergy and surgical staples

Thanks so much for your reply. Your problem with jewelry is much worse than mine. I only have trouble with certain earrings...never with necklaces, rings, watches, etc. I just hope my call to the dr doesn't mess up my July 12 date. I've waited soooo long, and I'm so close!!

    Is Cigna a nightmare?

I have Cigna. I just made sure I knew exactly what they required. I made sure I had everything. My surgeons office was helpful with this as well. They wouldn't even submit it until they knew I had completed everything. Once I did, it took about a week to get approved.

hospital wants out of pocket amount up front

It's not just for elective surgeries that upfront payment is expected. My dh had rotator cuff surgery last year, and we had to pay the surgeon a month before surgery and the hospital required payment when I checked him in on the spot. We were notified in advance so we were expecting it. Vanderbilt hasn't asked for money yet, but I go Monday for my pre-surgery consult so they may ask for it then.

    Sleeve reduction

It would be easy for them to calculate how much they removed. They would weigh the amount extracted, and based on the bougie size they know how much was left as that would be standard. It's not a 'guesstimate'.
