    Howdy from texas

Go for texans, i'm in south texas and banded march 16. i was nervous too, let me tell you, i am so happy i did it. i've lost 26 lbs already without a fill. you'll be nervous until they wheel you into the or, but after 5 days, you will feel fine and start a new life. Good luck to all of you. And Happy "NEW" Birthday!
  3. Go for it girl! I too am a texas girl. i had my surgery march 16 and have lost 26 lbs. since. Surgery was not so bad. after 5 days i was back to my old self, except i couldn't eat everything. was on liquids for a week and a half, after that i started mushies, like potatoes, cream of wheat, lots of crystal light, (love it). after 2 and half weeks, my doctor let me start on reg. food. I don't eat sweets, bread, pasta and don't drink carbonated bev. But I don't really miss any of it. when you start a meal, try to eat proteins first, then veggies, by the time you get through to the veggies, your full. REALLY! So far i'm really pleased with my progress, i listen to my stomach, not my head and taste buds. when i feel full, i stop eating. You are young and i know you can do it. I too found a lot of friends and supporters on this site, and if we can help you, just say the word. Good luck.

    What causes all this gas?

i just ran across this thread and i'm 4 weeks post op and i have this gas after every meal. sometimes it lasts all night. my hubby is wondering what's wrong with me. I don't burp either, so like someone said, i guess it has to come out somewhere. And man HOW!
  5. I love your little dachsund puppies in the corner.

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

I am a month post op also. My first fill is May 6. But I too have some restriction. But i don't understand how you can eat mcdonalds. If i eat three or four fries, i feel it get stuck half way down and i end up barfing it back up. Even meat gives me problems, even if I chew chew chew. So i avoid most meats and fries i certainly don't need. If i eat at mealtime, i can eat about 1 cup of food total and that's about it. Any more and i feel it flowing back up. But again, after i eat that i'm not hungry. my eyes might think i want something else, but it's no use even trying to eat it, because it wouldn't go down anyway. So i guess that's what it's all about. the good part, i'm getting use to not having bread, sweets, a lot meat etc. And it doesn't bother me. I've lost 22 lbs since March 16 and feel inches creeping off also. I'm happy and don't regret the banding.
  8. I agree with you mrscabes! I thought the stuff was pure d nasty. Couldn't drink it. the only thing i can get down is the carnation instant breakfast.

    surgery is tomorrow

I was banded march 16. within 5 to 6 days i was back to feeling GREAT! I had the same feelings you are having, right up until they wheeled me into the operating room. But i kept telling myself, this is the best thing for me. Now that i've had the surgery and almost 1 month post op, i actually feel like the old me. only thing, i can't eat the things i use to. Meat does not agree with me. gets stuck. but after you get stuck a couple of times, you don't really want it. and that's fine with me. I like seasoned veggies, potatoes, pudding and other soft things i ate before, just sugar free and little less salt. Also you have to learn to listen to your stomach, not your head. when you feel full, quit eating. Don't let your brain and tastebuds tell you that you want more. Once you learn to be strong, it gets easier. I've lost 22 lbs since surgery and i'm never really hungry. Good luck and I hope some of this helps you. We're in this together.
  10. Hey janelle,

I'm doing GREAT! I feel good, even starting to get a little more energy. i'm thru to regular foods. haven't had a fill yet, that will be on May 6. but right now i do still have restriction. Meat is almost impossible. So i stick to soft veggies and hamburger meat. i still do mashed potatoes also. but i'm satisfied, and don't ever seem to be hungry. My eyes and tastebuds sometimes think i have to have something else. but my mind tells me my stomach is not hungry. it's a good thing, a lot of other posts i read about people being hungry. i've lost 22 lbs, 4 of them pre-op and the rest after surgery. so i'm getting really excited about the new ME!

How about you. let me know what's happening with your band.

  11. I too decided on the band. i wanted less invasive and a slower weight loss. you have a better chance of exercising and tightening the loose skin. But good luck and I'll be rooting for you

    Just introducing myself :-)

Good luck Courtney! I too did the self pay route. My insurance is the pits and they wouldn't give me a second look. Kind of lousy, seeing as you could look at it as preventive health care. Think of all the health problems a person can have when your overweight. they should be willing to help us do something about it. Anyway, good luck, your doing yourself a great favor!
  13. Hey guys, everythings BIG in TEXAS! Except for US!
  14. I was banded march 16, 2010. It took me about 5 days post op and I felt great. Since then, i do have some restriction. I've lost 4 lbs preop and 16 post op. The thing is you have to listen to your stomach. Eat when your hungry, not when your tastebuds say you want something. I didn't have much trouble distinguishing so far. But when I eat the wrong thing, my band lets me know. I'm not exactly a veteran, but stay true to your band. I've had trouble with weight all my life. but i believe we can do this. All of us together.

    I am so EXCITED!!

i'm happy for you. when i was waiting for my surgery, everything went fast, but it couldn't come sooner. I was so anxious. Good luck. let us know how it goes.
  16. how did the surgery turn out. You probably feel like crap right now, but in about a week, you feel back to your old self. it took me about 5 days. I'm almost a month out and 20 lbs down and feel great! Good luck and happy new birthday.

    shorts

Girl, i know what you mean. I was banded march 16 and so far lost 20 lbs. Doctor says about 2 lbs a week expected. went shopping yesterday with my 2 beautiful blonde daughters (never had a weight problem). while they were buying, i was dreaming. won't be long and i'll be right there with them. i can't wait to slip into some those cute tops, shorts and capris. YOU GO GIRL!
  18. i'm here in texas too. i don't have any experience with mexico. But wouldn't you feel better being banded here at home, where you can see your surgeon when you need to. I had mine done in Victoria, about an hours drive from me. i feel comfortable that i can call or go to his office if i have any problems. One problem i found out i had after surgery is when i got home, i found out i was allergic to iodine used in surgery. i broke out with welps all over my stomach. (very itchy, if you know what I mean.) Not to discourage you. I just wonder if you would feel more comfortable at home.

anyway - I was banded march 16 and feel on top of the world. So glad i had it done. I've lost 21 lbs since then. I already have no more sleep apnea, don't snore at all (that was a big problem) and starting to have much more energy. Good luck on whatever you decide. I'm happy for you. you won't regret being banded.

  19. Hi sweetie, I am from texas (ya who) and I was banded on march 16. I am feeling GREAT! I'm losing weight pretty steady. went to see the surgeon form 2 weeks post op check. Lost 4 lbs before and 16 lbs after the surgery. He told me to go ahead and try to start eating solids. But I tried and got stuck. Getting stuck is not comfortable, but it passes. All I can say is I am excited about my progress. Don't know if you could call me a mentor, but I can say it's the best thing I ever did for myself. Hope your surgery went well. The gas problem is a little rough, but do sip your Water as they tell you, and follow instructions on your liquid diet. Not to tell you what to do, but in a week and a half I ate soft mashed potatoes and soft cooked veggies. Just chew the veggies well. I would love to keep in touch, so let me know how your doing.:bored:

I assure, y ou will be back to your old self (except for the weight) before you know it.

    On my way!

I too had surgery march 16. And i feel great to be "on my way" also. since my pre-op on march 11, i have lost about 12 lbs. My gas pain has subsided and my incisions seem to be healing well. I'm not going to mess up either. this is too important to me. So let's keep each other going in a positive direction. Let me know how you progress. and maybe we can exchange stories. girl55

that's great news marisa, about your surgery date and all. I have only a 24 hours pre-op diet also. My surgery is March 16 and I am self pay. You're lucky your insurance is paying. Mine wouldn't touch it. From all the research I've done and all the chats i've talked to, we're doing the right thing. I'm 5'5'' and 265 lbs. I'm 54 years old, but for once in my life, I want to be thin. Maybe 145 lbs. So good luck. I'll be in touch.:blushing:
  25. hey janelle,

I'm getting this burst of excitement, as I countdown less than a week. I am so ready to get started. I just got some of my surgery information via e-mail today. But I have a pre-op appointment Thursday. Countdown time . . .
