Looking for May Bandsters
I was banded Wednesday the 12th. I feel pretty good today. The only pain is my port site and just above it I had hernia repair. I was scared but it was for nothing. I know that now. It is not bad at all. I only had a little shoulder/back pain the 1st day. Walking and a heating pad did wonders for me. I was able to go to my daughters 1st dance recital on Thursday, just the day after surgery. Just remember, everyone is different. We all have described our experiences yet these are only possiblities. My doctor also advised against comparing weight loss with others. We are all different and if you compare you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Oh and I gained 3 lbs after surgery due to swelling. That too shall pass.

I'm scared to death!!!!!!!!!
I was just banded Wednesday and let me tell you, the weekend and few days leading up to the surgery was emotional for me. I was scared, I was crying. That is all normal, really. I think the band is going to be the best thing I ever did. I just have to work with it not against it. The surgery is over and I really don't feel bad. I had some shoulder/back pain but not a lot and walking and using a heating pad on my back did wonders. The port site is the worst part of it. I had a hernia repair and it was right above my port site. I think that hurts worse than the port. I am sore and tender there. It's all about following the eating guidelines to be successful. I know someone who had it but she does not following the eating guidelines and her band has slipped twice. She has only lost 10 lbs in 4 months. It's a tool and you can use it or abuse it.

May 10-14 Banders--How's it going? Share.
I was banded on Wednesday the 12th. I had no hunger on Wednesday or Thursday but today I feel hunger pains. I just drank a few ounces of Protein drink and my stomach is bubbling. I will try again in a bit. I plan on having thin Soup for lunch. I had to have Clear liquids for two days then full liquids including yogurt for two days then applesauce/pudding and bananas for 2 days. By Wednesday I can have mashed potatoes/well cooked veggies/vegetable soup and Beans. Every two days I can more things. My throat is still sore from being intubated. I had a lot of sinus drainage yesterday and it felt like I had indegestion. It felt like something was sitting on my chest. I coughed and some of the drainage broke loose. I was afraid to cough because well it hurts and I didn't want to shift the band. I'm not taking the prescription pain meds at all. Just adult liquid tylenol if I need it which is about once a day. So far so good..

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
I took out the Q-ball today. That was weird pulling that catheter out of my stomach. It didn't hurt at all. I had hunger pains this morning. I had a couple of ounces of Protein drink and my stomach was bubbling. I gave up soft drinks and caffeine a few months ago so no headache for me. The port site is still really sore this morning but only when I get up out of a seat. The more I move around the pain subsides. It's like it is stiff there. They put it right where my waistband is then I get instructions to not have my waistband on the site. ummm...then don't put the port at my waistband!! I have to be "steve urkel" and pull my pants and undergarments up to my armpits to keep it off my incisions. Craziness!!

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
Congrats! I was banded yesterday. I had to be there at 5:30 am and on my way home by 10:30. I am not too bad this morning. I am only drinking Clear liquids and taking small amounts. I had a popsicle because my throat was really sore and I felt stuffed after eating it. I guess that is telling too much. It was single ice pop.

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
I was banded yesterday. So far so good. I had a little back/shoulder pain but my heating pad seems to have taken care of that. I HIGHLY recommend it and getting up and walking around. My port site is sore today and yesterday it wasn't so whatever meds I had left in my system is now gone. I just took adult liquid tylenol this morning and feel fine. It was a quick procedure and I was headed home by 10:30 am. Any questions, feel free to ask me. I am an open book.

Happy Band day to Me!!
I was banded this morning. So far so good. I am sore and my shoulder/back hurts a little. They found a hiatal hernia and repaired it while they were in there. The doctor said my liver looked good. Weird thing is they sent home before/after pictures of my hernia repair. My throat is REALLY sore and I am very thirsty. I recommend walking around or just get up and move around every hour. It really helps. I also have a heating pad for my back/shoulder. I have an ice pack for my stomach. It is sore where the hernia was repaired. I have a Q-ball that delivers continuous pain meds to my port site for two days and a nausea patch. Deep breaths are hard but I force it and coughing which hurts my stomach a little. All in all, I feel okay considering. Can't wait to see what each day brings.

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
My surgery day is tomorrow and I have butterflies in my stomach really bad. I keep pacing. I am home alone today which is probably not a good thing. Being on all liquids makes leaving to shop a little difficult if a ladies room is not nearby if you know what I mean. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning. I doubt I will sleep at all tonight.

Tomorrow is my day
I both excited and nervous. My mind is racing right now. I have got so much to do yet I don't know where to start. What shall I do first? I have to be at the hospital to check in at 5:30 am. Dang that is early!! My surgery is at 7:30. My hubby is staying home with me tomorrow and Thursday and then I am on my own during the day. I am so glad I took off work until the 20th. Now I am wondering what I am going to do about sleeping. My bed sits very very high. I literally have to climb up to get in it and I am 5'6". I guess I can sleep in the reclining seat on the couch if I am too sore to make the trek into my high rise bed. Now back to my nervousness...I am getting jittery. I have a lot of nervous energy right now but all I can do is worry about tomorrow. Deep down I know it will all be okay but part of me is still really really scared.

Very Nervous...scared really
See, my problem is that I have had all these questions answered. I love my dr and the staff is great! I just started dwelling on them again today. I guess it is nerves. I know this is the right thing to do for me. Thanks for the pep talk. I just need to keep my feet grounded and my eyes ahead on the prize. Thanks so much!!

Any May 2010 Bandsters?
My band date is the 12th. I have been having a whole lot of emotions. Today I woke up and have been very emotional every time I think about surgery. I am questioning my decision every minute today. My husband isn't asking me to cancel but he is still offering me food and I am on the pre-op. He needs to get a grip and stop that. I have to keep telling myself that I am doing the right thing and it will all work out but my husband needs to get on board too. I read somewhere that the person who invented it also has it or it was the 1st person to get one and he still uses his. Even if it needed to be replaced, after 10 years I would hope I didn't need it anymore since by then eating small meals would be a lifelong habit. On the other hand, I would rather replace it than have gastric where my insides were rearranged.

Very Nervous...scared really
Okay so now that I am in the final leg of my journey to banding, lots of things are running through my head. A lot of "what if". What if something goes wrong?HOw will I pay to fix it since I am self pay? What if they find something else wrong inside while they are in there? What if it doesn't work? And the ultimate...what if I die? I am finding myself dwelling on these most of the day. I don't let it show on the outside. On the outside, I am confident, calm, collected. I am so nervous on the inside that I am chewing up the inside of my cheeks. A nasty habit I do without even realizing it until it is all chewed up and hurting.

Looking for May 12th band buddy
Hi Robin, Welcome to the site. This place is great! I found it just after my 1st intake appointment and have been going strong every since. Absolutely, we should be buddies. This pre-op diet is wearing me out. I am tired and short tempered. I am diabetic so every afternoon my sugar drops and I get dizzy. Then some juice and off I go. It is going to be a struggle until I can eat solids again. No turning back though. Just a few days and a whole new beginning. I am so thrilled and yet nervous and scared. All of which are normal.

Pre-Operative Class
I had a class that lasted over 5 hours. It was our second informational class. I felt prepared enough but I think this site has given me a lot more insight.

Struggling with pre-op diet
I am really struggling with the all liquid diet. I only have to be on it a week but I am sooo hungry. I have had to eat something. It's smalll but it helps. I am having really bad headaches where everything is blurry so I ate a small sandwich. Being diabetic I think has something to do with it. I may just have to eat a little something every day. After I ate my headache went away. I don't know what to do. I guess I need to call the dr office tomorrow and see if it would be okay.
