    Dr. Aceves patient's...HELP!

I have seen several psychologists and trained to be a psych RN in school (before I ran screaming, really not my cup o tea, I like the sweet Alzheimer's patient). Their are some therapists that really know how to help, but a lot of them go into psych because of personal or family issues (personal opinion :confused1: ). I also had to educate my doctors about Mexico. I had 3 doctors warn me about going to Mexico, but when I asked them if they treated a patient that had a bad expereience in Mexico NONE had a patient with an issue! It is always a co-worker that had a patient with an issue. Their is always risk with surgury! Add extra weight to that and your risks increase. We weight (pun not intended, ok maybe it was) the risks vs benifits. Just ask Tiffykins about the possible negatives, and she still recommends to everyone to get the surg!

    Dr. Aceves patient's...HELP!

Grrrr... :confused1::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry: My mouth dropped open and I cursed at the screen when I read about your problems with your family. As an RN, I can stay I research and researched and researched! I approached 3 different doctors in Mexico and SPOKE with people that had received the surgury from each MD. I am lucky that my job, co-workers, and family/friends all support my decision. I am a 400++, 32 year old with new onset diabetes, PCOS, sleep apnea, and depression. Funny thing, it is the doctors in Mexico that TRAINED the doctors in the USA, Europe and Mexico did the WLS for many years before the USA. It really irks me when someone without a weight issue preaches about "will power". I have been overweight since gradeschool, I tried every diet possible to no eval. I was in Tae-Kwon Do, walked, was in volleyball, and was very active as a child and still continued to gain weight. I did "give up" the fight in my late 20s and gained a lot at that point, but I worked hard as a child and in my early 20s and still gained every month. Please ignore your family! Be heathy and do what YOU need to do! It took my 5 years to go from thinking about surg to schedualling it. We are all real on here, and we all support you. Good luck!

    CPAP question

[quote name= My daughter brought home some info today about cpaps, and it said it is a gentle pressure of air that keeps your air ways open.....THERE IS NOTHING GENTLE ABOUT THIS THING.....IT IS TORTURE !!!!![/quote] Did you take any medications to "help you sleep" prior to the test. Despite the literature stateing that sleeping pills do not effect the results, that is not my expereince with family and patients I worked with. If you took a sleeping pill, you may consider not doing so at the next test. I was fortinatly one of those that had an easy adjustment to my Cpap. I guess spending 8 months sleeping upright in a chair and waking up every hour made the sleep I received with the machine even better. I would definatly have the doctor decrease the pressure, maybe slowly increase to the level you need over a month or two.

Tick tock ... April 10th ... Tock Tick

Great luck to you Lizzy! I'll wave at you when I cross the border!
  10. I posted this somewhere else, so bear with me :001_smile:. All set up with Dr. Aceves in Mexicalli for April 10th! My tickets are purchased and my hotel reserved! Work is great, they are letting me fly down and back to San Diego on their dime! (I have a building I oversee in the SD area). I'm so excited! I have lost 8 lbs this week on Adkins, so I am hoping to lose a full 30 lbs before surgury to be safe. Anyone else traveling to Mexico in April? Tracy
  11. OMG! That totally rocks! :drool5: I hope i do as well after April 10!

    Confession Time

I agree Tracy! I always try to eat healthy / organic, problem now is that when I pass by that horrible fast food place on a bad day I can eat an entire burger (or 2), then it starts that cycle of high glycemic cycling. I love the idea of the sleeve, that way when I fall off the wagon, I can't! But all other times in my life I eat heathly, whole wheat, high fiber, fresh fruit and veggies. I plan to stick to a "Fiber 35 diet" after weight loss, that seems the heathiest to me and my body seems to like it. Tracy (too.)

    Anyone else?

I'll be following you to Dr. Aceves April 10th! :biggrin0:!! Good luck!
  16. I was one of those kids that started out big. I graduated from high school just shy of 200 lbs. My freshman 15 was actually a freshman 50! Tried a bunch of diets and failed every one due to depression and cravings. I am currently 433 lbs, just inching into pre-diabetes and have suffered with sleep apnea and hypothyroism for years. Found out recently that I have PCOS, which at least tells me why I had so much trouble maintaining a healthy weight as a kid, especially as active as I was (Taekwon do, basketball, walking 2-3 miles daily). No matter what I just kept gaining! 5years ago I started the journey towards getting banded. Finances and uncooperative insurance kept me from it. 2 days ago I was getting ready to place my deposit to see Dr. Joya in Mexico for the Realize band when my family forwarded me that statistic about 25% of banders electing to remove it in 2 years. Scared the crap out of me, I need something that is going to work. I made the decision today that I am going to do the VGS. No more delays! Tracy
  17. Thanks! Do you know where you are going to go to get yours?
  18. notsofluffy

    The WRONG Isopure!!??

Can you do Jay Rob immediatly post-op? It is not a clear liquid.
  19. My VGS surgery is schedualled for April 10th in Mexicalli with Dr. Aceves! I decided I wanted to do the pre-op diet longer then 14 days as he recommends. I have lost 8 lbs since starting on the induction phase of Adkins! With my prior weight loss on MEDifast (don't do it, it sucks), I have loast a total of 21 lbs in 6 months! Makes me feel much safer to go into the surgury. (My poor fatty liver :001_rolleyes:). I'm hoping to loose at least another 20 before surgury . Tracy

    Anyone else?

I was going to be going on March 20th, but setting the date that close gave me a panic attack! So I am going April 10th. Good luck!
  21. OK, this sucks :thumbup1: Wanted to get the best weight loss possible pre-op, so going on strict Adkins. Guess what showed up day 3, right side abdominal and left foot cramps. I'm sure other pre-opers have had this..... what worker? ( a banana a day just won't keep me less then 10 carbs a day!!! )
  22. notsofluffy

    Pre-op low carb cramps

It is amaving how great you can feel on Adkins. Though I noticed that I am MUCH more successful in avoiding cravings the with my first attemp, I believe due to my metformin and treatment for my PCOS. I plan to continue the low carb / adkins diet post-op, it seems to work within the guidelines that my MD gave me.
  23. notsofluffy

    Pre-op low carb cramps

It's not dangerous, unless you follow your own version of it :001_tt2:. Many people fail to research it and try to simply eat high fat / high Protein with a 10 carb ice-cream bar. The diet calls for adding greens for Fiber and nutrition, also supplimental Vitamins, and restricting the amout of fat you eat (lean meats). Research it on the Adkins sight (google / bing Adkins), their is more to it then most people think. It does put you into acidosis as you have no carbs for quick energy and the body is breaking down fat and protein to burn. If you don't drink enough Water this stays in your system. No vitamins, you miss out on vital nutrients you normally get from grains.

Going alone to see Alberto Aceves or......

:tongue_smilie: WooHoo. My surgury is set for April 10th with Dr Aceves. Their was a March 20th date open, but the instant panic attack I had with the time so close forced me to move the date out a little. I feel good about the decision. I started a strict Adkins diet for the last week and will continue till surgury. He is only asking for the 14 day pre-op, but with my BMI, I figured the longer the better! I noticed that I have had no carb cravings with this attempt at Adkins. I beleive my metformin is finally working on my PCOS and insulin resistance....
