New York Bandsters?

Hey gals - If you ever get a date set up to meet, count me in!
  2. Longhorn you are such the math teacher!!! Your graph is the first graph I have ever seen on these boards. Too funny. Large volume liposuction does not work either. . .I had heard about how it permanently removes the fat. It does. But I am darn good at creating new to replace it:-)) Grapefruit 45, Silver running sweatsuits that helped you lose weight all day by body heat allowing you to sweat it off, Diet Soda (Aspartame makes me hungrier then anything else in the world), Lipodissolve, the list goes on and on. . . RE: the Water thing. For us in the middle of the dessert, we do have to force the water intake because I know my body isn't very good at letting me know how dehydrated I truly am. Just my 2 cents.

    My Erosion Experience

I had my done by Dr. Ortiz earlier this month. Take WASaBubbleButt's suggestion and hit the recent support boards (broken down by month) to see there are plenty of Ortiz patients around this board. I don't recall any references to Dr. Lopez since being very active on this board that past few months. THNX!

im 1 week out and eating!

I guess Roberta that it isn't that we don't know better but that at 2 weeks of liquid and your body has healed some that the hunger is overwhelming sometimes (you'll find out:-0). I think the if you have to cheat stick to Protein is excellent advice. Technically I was supposed to be on liquids for 3 weeks but I added mushies (oatmeal, eggs, real yogurt - not the liquid kind, etc.) somewhere between 1-2 weeks because of the extreme hunger. I have had a few soft cheats such as plain Pasta with sauce (half a cup), etc. But I try hard every day to stay on the wagon. It is just really, really hard. Although now officially I am off all dietary restrictions except to eat protein first, then vegetables/fruit followed by any other carbs. I feel healed and know I can stick with this for another 3 weeks until my fill:-)) Also, the liquid calories are sooooo dangerous. All the juices (160 calories in a Hawaiian Sun Guava juice, my fav) can easily exceed 1K a day. So now that I can eat solids, no more juices except occasional fresh squeezed ones after my fills:-)))) So much to learn, so much to relearn. . .

    Strange pain

Hey-I was on the breathing thing too due to my apnea and poor breathing test results during pre-op (70% v. min of 75% lung capacity). It took me 3 weeks to take a really deep breath. I had the pain on the lower side too. I thought it was my incisions but who knows? I seem fine now though.

    Dec. 07 Exercise plan

I am dreaming of a power walk someplace warm:-)) Don't have my 4 weeks done just yet but hope to be on a bike by the end of the week. . .I prefer the power walking but it is just too darn cold. I feel good after exercising so I am looking forward to it again!!

    Home from vacation

Wow! You are staying so strong. I like the starting anew part. What a great approach. I know the carb thing is the worst. I have the cravings too. I can get a fill on or about the 15th (my b-day!). I am holding steady until then too. Back to Protein for me too:-))) I'm heading down for my Breakfast Activa now. . .

Congrats Jaymie!!! We are so happy for your success. Keep up the great work. The popsicle was a perfect idea. I had one the day after surgery too and thought it was the best tasting thing I ever put in my mouth. Made me want to be 8 years old again:-))

    Port site sunken

Mine is still swollen right at the port. I looks like a small flattened golf ball sticking out of my tummy. Neither looks sounds particularly let's put on a tight top flattering:-))))

    Falling off the wagon.... Help!

I'm so sorry to hear about your infection Marie. We are here for ya. I think the best advice is the one posted earlier about there are points where we are not supposed to lose but heal. I think this is your time to heal and you will get your mojo back at your first fill with the rest of us. You are doing so well! I'm praying I don't but know now that my swelling is down and there is no restriction that my weight will gradually go back up before the fill. Keep your head up, you are doing so great!!
  11. I feel your pain. I lost my restriction about the end of the second week I guess due to the swelling going down. I can basically eat what I want again but am trying to be good and follow a regiment. I lost a lot of weight (for me) the first 2 weeks now I just pray I don't gain any back before my fill. I doubt there will be any additional weight loss until then:-( Patience isn't one of my virtues either. . .
  12. I am a Quaker so politically liberal: rights and protections for all including unpopular positions such as guaranteed healthcare, against violence of any kind such as war, gay rights, etc. but personally extremely conservative: live simply and give of yourself unconditionally (10% of my time and financial resources are given to a number of charities). Don't know if that helps:-))

Slimfast type "diet" to go along with LapBand??

I think it makes good sense. It is rich in Protein and if it satiates you and doesn't cause excess liquid calories, sounds good to me.

My doctor says no Protein shakes, only solids. I know that is all part of the way the band helps us but if you can't tolerate solids until 7 PM, then Slimfast makes sense to me.
But I'm not a doctor of course. Just what I think. . .which is what you asked for:-))

Am I The Only Real Overeater In This Forum??

Hi all-I think I saw the same show rebandit and I picked up on that right away too:-))) They didn't mention it but I guess us people of heft notice this more than others. I would say I am probably not addicted to food. I am addicted to bad choices and couldn't stop myself until the band. I was 48% fat on the day of surgery. I was eating at fast food restuarants ordering whatever I wanted 2 times a day. I couldn't get enough. I also suffer from depression and a painful childhood which has gotten worse in recent years. The food seemed to comfort me if only a little. I think the fact that my weight issues did not start until my late 20's/early 30's is a sign that this isn't genetic for me and I would agree with Wheetsin, you really can find all sorts of reasons for our obesity on this board. I think someone started a "why are you fat" thread too. Best wishes everyone on their journey over the holidays!!!

  17. Thanks Bandster 1007! I am heading to the store now! What an awful side affect. Keep your chin up about work. You are making all the right changes in your life and you clearly care. There is a light for you at the end of the tunnel.
  18. I'll throw my half a cent worth in here too on constipation. I have struggled with it in the past but recently have been regular (daily) for the 8 months prior to getting banded. Mostly due to drinking more Water and eating lots of fiber. Now, I haven't had a movement in 7 days since my banding. I tried now and it hurt so much, I had some blood. . .not nice. I called and scheduled a colon cleanse at a holistic spa (RN administered) for this week. I read all the threads about how it is quackery, etc. but what I never saw was it was dangerous if administered properly. I got have a movement. . .I must, I must, I must?:-)))))
  19. Today it is Day 7 for me. I got ravenous on liquids on Day 3-6. Today, I am feeling a little better eating some yogurt and pudding in addition to the Protein. I don't know for sure but I believe the protein made the difference plus the ability to eat something semi-solid in the form of the pudding and yogurt. I can say I am not as hungry as I was before the band but it is clear to me a week in that restriction via fills is going to be important for me:-))
  20. Loehmann's Also, if you plan on being in lower Manhattan, Century 21 directly overlooking ground zero is a NY institution for great finds. Century 21 Department Store is their site. Enjoy!!!
  21. For eating, there is probably going to be no issue. If there is anything it is a plate sharing charge of a few bucks and this is always printed on the menu. For shopping with cost in mind, stop in Daffy*s for great bargains (they are a chain so there are multiple stores). Daffy's High Fashion. Low Prices. :: Home Page Also, Loehman's is great for deals. loehmans.com Since everything is decorated for the holidays you can't pass up Macy*s Herald's Sqaure where some of the escalators are the original wood escalators from way back in the day. Also, you will likely go down 5th avenue to see the window displays, etc. you will see Saks (across the street from Rock Center), Tiffany*s, etc. right in the same 10 blocks (5th Avenue at 58th down to 48th). If you are still in the mood for bargains, H&M's flagship store is on 5th avenue in this vicinity as well as Zara. Fun shopping at both. Have a wonderful time!!! You are going to love it.

    December Post-Op Thread

Hey TXBandit- It is weird how we are all on different diets. . .I had/have 4 days of clear liquids followed by 17 days of all liquids including Soups, blended stuff, etc. Day 21 I go on solids. I am hungry on Day 6. I still have some gas and a growling stomach. I am worried about making it to Day 21 without any solids at all. I figure I will try some yogurt and Jello today to see if it helps the hunger pains. A lot of people talk about the fills being the really important in getting the journey underway for the long term. Will the hunger go away with the fills? I am worried that the hunger is never going to go away:faint:

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I have to agree with everyone on the not sharing part. I have a friend who had the RNY and tells everyone her story. That is just who she is and how she copes. I am way, way too introverted and socially anxious to expose myself to that level of scrutiny. My DH actually said why not tell everyone it is the "hip thing" right now. Can you believe that logic?? Hysterical. WLS is hip. Tragic.
