    chips and dip

Mine always gurgles and I burp when I sip to much getting too much air. I get discomfort though when I eat too much or too fast. Liquids are okay they go down smoothly. Actually I wasn't to have the chips yet, but it helped with the fat free refried beans. So far haven't had an issue, but taking every thing slowly. Priority is fluid & protein, and then food if I can tolerate it. I'll probably be chewed out tomorrow when I see the surgeon, but it is working for me.

    chips and dip

Don't know exactly what you want for suggestions, but some posted something about bean chips, so went looking for them and found them in my store in the organic section. The one I got was called Beanitos, white bean with sea salt. There are others made with different beans. 1oz serving is 140 calories, 7g fat, sodium 55mg, potassium 140mg carbs 16gm, protein 4g. I like them from the little I tried (not to eat this just yet). I'm not a potato chip fan but have always liked chips like this. Hope this will help.
  3. I still seem to be in the mind set I have to drink clear liquids, so thanks BBdoodle for making me rethink what the heck. So later will fix a chocolate, almond milk, with some greek yogurt and make a smoothie. My doctor wants between 70-80 gms of protein. Right now I'm drinking 34 oz of crystal light and protein and sipping that takes hours.

    Any Band converters under........

Great attitude and with that you will succeed. Just had RNY last week and as of yesterday have lost 5 lbs. Doing great just wish I could go back to work rather bored at home. Good luck come December and keep posting to let us know your progress.
  5. Mix protein with liquid trying to kill two birds with one stone. My average is about 60 gms protein, trying hard to get another 20 in though. Would mix with cream soup, yogurt, sf pudding etc can only have 2 tablespoons, so can't get a full 20 gms.

    Going Grey after RNY

I started turning grey at 18 as I grew older and it became more I started coloring it. Finally the grey wouldn't hold the tint, so I said the heck with it and let it go natural. I'm now at the age where I should have grey hair, but I will say I have had more compliments about grey hair then I did with my own natural color. What I have noticed is that it was just growing back from the lapband surgery, but that was before I knew about Biotin will see what happens. RNY 9/11/13.

    Help after Surgery ?

Had surgery 9/11 home 9/12. Opened my front door, closed my front door and have been taking care of myself. Daughter, however, lives next door. So did have her run to the pharmacy Thursday for my pain meds and then again on Sunday for some other things I needed. As soon as I stopped my pain medication on Sunday, went shopping on Monday and took dog to the vet. I'm actually ready to go back to work, but will wait until I see the doctor Thursday. FYI I'm 71 years of age.
  8. Thanks. Trying not to overdo it, should have actually gone back to work yesterday. Hard for me to stay down at home, I'm safer at work. There I sit and answer incoming calls and deal with sick people. Don't get in as much trouble there.
  9. Had surgery last Wednesday, home Thursday and took it rather easy until Sunday evening. Stopped pain meds that day. Monday went grocery shopping, to the pharmacy, then took the dog to the vet. Been doing laundry. Trying to get all my protein in, so mixing with my 64 oz of fluid. Eating Cream of Wheat, cream soups, plus sf pops and jello and tomorrow get to move it up a step in the food chain, I think. Would have to read the instructions. Just doing well trying to get in all the fluids with the protein. Good news losing a pound a day since Friday. That is where I am in my weight loss journey.
  10. Glad to hear you got help. That way you'll have some time to rest. Think today I've been awake all day, but quit taking pain med yesterday, which helped. But still wear out easily. Take care of yourself.

    Smoking and Gastric Bypass

I've never smoked but I ate. So here is my question, smoking is an addiction, food is some sort of addiction, if you feel you can't quit or really don't want to quit this smoking addiction, how confident are you that you can lose the weight you have gained from your food addiction? And of course, if you go back to your smoking addiction then you are putting yourself back into more health issues with your bypass, not counting the ones you have already done to the arteries in your body. This is just a thought, as this is really hard for me to wrap my head around.

    Endoscopy Nightmare! Help!

I've had three endoscopies, one of which I was put to sleep. The last two I actually watched, feeling nothing. My last one was actually done by my surgeon who did the band removal and bypass. That took a total of about 15 minutes max. Now the colonoscopy, I have had numerous and I am always put to sleep on that one. Don't fear the procedure just don't care for the pre-op that you have to go through. My last endoscopy they asked if I needed something to relax me and said no I was fine. Did the same when I had the band out. But for some reason they gave it to me once I was in the operating room, about a minute before they put me to sleep. Haven't figured that one out. Don't think I had a choice for bypass. My fear is always the pain afterwards, and yet my imagination seems to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The pain is never as bad as I thought it would. Of course there isn't any pain that I am aware of with the either the colonoscopy or endoscopy. So if the procedure bothers you that much ask your doctor to give you something. All I can say you'll be okay. A very simple, safe, fast procedure. In and out.
  14. You're going to do great. You have all of us cheering you on to a new you.
  15. Okay, day four still letting the dog in and the dog out. Pain is very tolerable now, don't think I'll even take a dose. Went from every six to 12 hours, and have been up and done so much just going to the bathroom from all the liquid feel it totally has helped. I agree with everyone, even though you get to feeling better every day, handling all the animals, and two toddlers is a bit extreme. I just changed my bandages where the drains were. I have stitches in the main drain and staples in the other, so not worried as feel it could take quite a lot to tear. Anyway, please take it as easy as you can sageandcoyesmommy.
  16. Surgery Wednesday @ 10 AM in my room by 12:30, slept off and on, used my pain med pump starting at about 6 PM and two to three hours thereafter. Nurses checking, BP & BS every two hours, which was okay as that was as long as I slept. 8:00 PM got up walked the hall and than sit in a chair for about a 1/2 hour. Ended up having to have Zolfran twice. Was allowed ice chips, which I sucked on off and on, finally they just gave me a full cup. I wasn't very dry or thirsty, so basically allowed me to have what I wanted. Continued to have BP checked, as have issues with the heart, plus BS. Had a blood draw to check everything to make sure I wasn't lacking. Potassium was high, sodium low but still within the normal range. Up next morning sitting on edge of bed @ 8:00 AM, doctor and PA came in surprised I was up and getting to go for a walk. So they released me. Had two chicken broths, and three sf popsicles before I left. Sent me home with pain med which I could take 4-6 hours, I took every six, now I take it every 12 or PRN. Everyday gets better, but wish I could get in more food like Cream of Wheat, soup. Just lucky I'm getting in almost 64 oz of fluid but only about 40 gms of protein though and that I don't like. Got to try harder.
  17. As I'm sure you are well aware of, when you suffer from an addiction, only you can help with that addition with a lot of professional people on stand by. It is not a easy process nor a short one. It will take months to get to where you need to be to succeed. You had a lapband unfilled which didn't accomplishment anything but propably made you fill like a loser. Now on to RNy. These are only tools, you have to control what you put in your month, and how much. You have to comit to how much time you want to spend excerising. It is a tool, if left idol, as with the lapband, it will do nothing. You have to do the work and if you don't think you can then don't do it until you are ready,.
  18. My toddler is four legged so I let her out, I let her in. I am wondering if it is the medication they give us to put us under. They gave me the same thing as when I had my band out and I was allowed to have a medicine cup of ice chips every hour, but I didn't use that much. By that night they even took the medicine cup away but had to stay on ice chips in a 12 oz cup. Didn't need chapstick, my lips didn't dry out. Actually you couldn't tell I even had surgery, except I'm moving a little slower when I first get up. So sorry it is hard for you to take care of your toddlers but it is understandable. It will get better as it is obvious you are well on your way to a fast recovery.

    42-hours til hosp. Check-in

It will be over in no time. Once you are home that is all you will basically want for a few days and hunger won't be an issue, anyway hasn't been for me. Good luck on your journey.

    42-hours til hosp. Check-in

Had my band three years and lost at little over 40 lbs. It slipped and was removed 5/23/13, no weight gain and in fact lost. Had bypass last Wednesday and was really lucky. Very little scar tissue from the band so surgery was less than an hour. My problem was both blood sugar and blood pressure but having CHF and diabetes that was all to be expected. Went home in 24 hours, doing great and losing a lb a day. You'll do well and in no time be back to where you were and then some.

    Multivitamins

Even though they taste great there isn't anyway I could get mine chewed to where it needs to be with bypass. Also as stated they are lacking. Tomorrow I start my multiberry Fusion chewable. Four a day and don't have to take any other supplements. I'm all for less pills.

    This stall might kill me!

Great explaination DL. Love reading your post because of the good advice/wisdom to your responses.
  23. I purchased Bypass surgery for Dummies and in it it listed some books. I purchased one "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" author Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. This book is very informational, looks like some very good recipes also has the nutritional information for each serving. Found these at Amazon.com.

    Cooking with protein

None of the protein powder can withstand temperatures of 140 degrees they will clump. So it is simpler to mix it in something lukewarm or cold. So I make shakes, smoothies, use flavored in some of my crystal lite drinks, tried in jello, okay but not on my favorite list. Eventually you'll be getting your protein through regular food sources. But cooking with it is not recommended. Also mix in sf pudding instant is another source.
