    Diabetes

I have read a few articles that doctors are claiming people with diabetes have basically made it disappear with bariatric surgery. Any one here have it and now they don't after surgery?

    14 weeks and 50% down!

Contratz!!! Sounds like you have been very commited in your journey. Mind sharing what you eat on a typical day? Keep up the good work!:rolleyes2:
  4. Just got my date! November 18th... super excited.
  5. I had the same thoughts as everyone else here. Made my mind up to do it, because I can lose weight on my own but I can't keep it off. food always gets the best of me. I need this tool to manage myself. I went to the seminar on Sept. 29th, did all the testing in a month and am having my surgery next week! I'm very excited to get my life back. Its going to be a long journey but I'm willing to take it.

  7. here I come! So excited to get this done.
  8. At this time, I haven't told many people. The ones I have are on board with me. My sister-in-law was the only one questioning my choice, only because she has clients who have done it and failed. After I explained that I have done my research and KNOW its not a magic wand she was supportive of my choice. I haven't mentioned it to any friends or other family members so we'll see what happens. I just know this is my life and my choice and I know I have tried hundreds of times to lose and keep it off with little success. I'm doing this for me and if someone can't support me on it, then they can either get over it or not be a part of my success. Lets prove them wrong :crying:

    Nervous

Well, I've done all the required tests, now just awaiting approval. I'm sure I am not alone, but I'm feeling nervous about the way the LAP-BAND® is going to change my life. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have a tool available but I still worry about keeping the weight off and changing my mind set. I guess after so many other attempts at losing then gaining I can't help but think about this. I have a family member who recommended this to me, and I am truly excited because of her success. I just need to get the thoughts to move on and make this my OWN success!

    Vitamins, Calcium, and B12?

Since I being diagnosed with Diabetis a few years back I was really packing in the Vitamins of all sorts + meds. I would say out of all the ones I have taken and tried I will keep up with my: multi-vit, Vit D, Omega-3 (it helps keep your skin more elastic & good for your brain), Iron, Calcium and Vit-B12 I found that VitaminShoppe has a nice selection of liquid vitamins, including multi, D, Calcium and more. I'm mixing most of those in my shake in the morning and makes life a lot easier then popping pills :frown:

When did you see a difference?

I started working out : 40 mins EA Active (Wii), 30 mins on my pilates and weights (to help tone up arms. I have not had my surgery yet but I was put on a strict diet and had 10% of my weight to lose so I figure I might as well get in a good habit before hand. I also have PCOS, which I have been told I will always have to excercise because it (PCOS) makes it harder for a person to lose weight. My surgery should be in the next 10 days so no time to waste :frown:

    Anyone workout with Wii?

I have Wii Fit and EA Active... out of the two EA Active has a nice mix of everything and a good amount of cardio. I use Wii Fit for more of a fun 'off day' work out.

    The worst timing!

Did you ask your surgeon if he/she might make an exception? Just tell them your insurance is changing and if you don't get it done by a certain date you won't be able to do it. They might look at what you have done and go for it.

    pre-op testing

Blood work, sleep test, dietician, psychiatrist, mammagram, ecocardiagram (I took phen-phen).... I think that is all. It was the most Dr. Appointments I've ever had in one month... a pain but worth it.

Did you "transition" into the liquid diet?

Just a suggestion... I was checking out labels on pre-made shakes.. i.e. slim fast, EAS If you are feeling hungry you should do the EAS AdvantEdge Carb control 110 Cal 3 fat 4 carbs 17 Protein I need more protein then carbs to stay satisfied and if you check the labels of slim fast or Kirkland (from costco, which I was using) they don't have very much protein. You can find the EAS at Walmart, Target etc.
  17. I have my meeting with the surgeon on Monday (11/1). His way of doing things after surgery doesn't seem to go along with a lot of what I'm reading here. After surgery I will not have a fill, but I will be on 3 weeks of liquid then 3 weeks of puree. At 6 weeks he will do my first fill. Now of course I have this 'question' on my list of things to ask him on Monday but just curious about your thoughts.
  18. Thanks Bob! It is so easy to talk our self out of things, something like this mostly out of fear. But it is a personal journey for each and everyone who has ever posted here. Some good responses and some not so good. I think, being an over weight person most of my adult life we just wire our self to be more negative and worrisome when it comes to things as weight loss... and awesome job!
  19. Thanks again... it all makes more sense now :wink2: I appreciate the response.
  20. The night I had my sleep study I asked for a split test (well the Dr. ordered it that way for me). I was so upset when they came in to put a CPAP on me. I went in after and was told that I needed it and once again was pretty upset. I went ahead and got it. I do hate to admit that I do wake up better in the morning. I don't like the mask though, I tried just the nose one then went to full face since the nose one was basically blowing my mouth open in the night so my throat was so sore. The full face is not the most exciting thing either  I figure that if my surgery was to hinge on me using it or not, I'd use it until I lost a good chunk of weight then ease off of it. My attitude (because I want this surgery badly), is I will do what ever it takes to get it done.
  21. Thanks for the replies.. I didn't mean the 6 weeks to wait for a fill but more the 6 weeks of liquid/puree. Some people I have heard from only had 1 week post-op on liquid then off to solids. Thanks again!
  22. I haven't had mine done yet, but like I was told and knew prior to the seminar I attended "this isn't a magic wand". Its about an extra tool to help control the over eating. Its got to be something in your mind that you are willing to do and work at. Its knowing this is my life, this is how I have to eat and excercise because I was not born in a family of twigs... the genes I've been blessed with are more of the oak variety :huh2: Weight will always be a battle for those of us who are over weight, its how we choose to handle it. Good luck!

    Vitamins...

I have been checking out all these things prior to surgery. Do you have a VitaminShoppe? if so they have a whole slew of liquid multi-vitamins, calcium, Vit-D etc.

Did you "transition" into the liquid diet?

Luckily my surgeon doesn't do the 2 week liquid prior to surgery. He has you lose 10% of your weight instead. The diet they give you is slim pickins! So as another poster.. went to Olive Garden the night before and went right on to two protein shakes a day and one decent high protein meal a day. As of today... about 10lbs to lose and I'm good to go..
