  1. I have really gotta find somewhere interesting to travel to! I have been ordering some visitor's guides to states all over the US for our summer vacation. What I really want to do is book a cruise but my dh isn't fond of the idea at all. I will have to work harder to convince him next summer. And hopefully by then I will look good in a bathing suit!

Why don't you join me and a small bandsters group and SO's in Roatan in the caribbean for a tropical vacation with dolphins!! Cost is as much as if you vacationed in the U.S.! Le t me know... I think about 6 of us would go plus friends, or family... One week at Anthony's Key. ALL INCLUSIVE! It will cost about 1,500 per person plus a flight from Houston or Miami. Lots to do including snorkeling trips, dolphins, and fun!

  2. Angela I am so jealous! Paris!! Can I sneak in your suitcase? Please, please!

Oh wait! They don't make suitcases big enough. :faint:Ugh! I guess I'll just have to settle for pictures. Post some pics for us to see when you get home!

I will post pics... I just hope I do not gain weight in the meantime!

  3. Tom you are too funny!!! Glad you are back!

llitltweety-congratulations! I ams tuck in the 190-192's now I feel I do need a fill but I have to wait until I come back form Paris...or I will only be able to drink Soup whle I'm there!!! With all the walking I will do I can splurge a bit there. food there is awesome...so a fill will put a damper. I will watch it some of course.

  4. Hi all, I'm on looking for answers; will keep searching but if anyone can pt me in the right area/chat I'd appreciate it. I never had reflux until several months (6+mo) & I got too much fill. So I had some removed. It helped for awhile. After several more months I have gone up/down with being filled. It would feel fine for a wk or 2, then it would get too tight & I couldn't sleep at night. Today I have nothing in the band; 0 cc's. I get reflux every night; I am up 1 or 2 tx's every night vomiting up the terrible acid in my stomach. I take Prilosec every day; sometimes 2 pills a day along with Pepcid AC, Pepto Bismol tablets when they stay down & drink ALka Seltzer like cold beer on a hot day! No relief. If I have even a sip of Water in the morning before 11am, I have nausea all morning. I cannot eat or drink anything until after 11 a.m. I can eat lunch but by late afternoon, the upset stomach is back & I usually have to "get rid of" my lunch. "Dinner" is very light & is usually "gone" after about 1 hr of sleep. I cannot drink very much at all during the day; even Water causes indigestion. I cannot eat chicken, beef, lettuce, most veggies; sometimes cannot tolerate my Protein drinks. I'm getting worried; yes, i'm losing weight, but at what cost?? Has anyone experienced any of this? I want to find out what I can do before going back to my dr & have him suggest to have the band removed; just don't want to give in to that idea yet. HELP!??!

PLEASE STOP ALL THE DRUGS!!!!! Prilosec has problems...new ones found recently check up on it. The combination of everything your taking is causing more harm than helping. Make sure you are not overfilled. I suggest you go without a fill for a while...take it all out and heal. Drink aloe vera juice to heal...you can mix it with a gentle fruit juice. Alka seltzer is OUT completely...carbonation is notgood with a band. No TUms, etc. Maybe the occasional Pepto Bismol. Make sure you stop all eating 3 hours prior to going to bed and sleep on a bed with the head raised about a foot. drink water and herbal teas like mint tea or chamomile. Do not drink alcohol or coffee or regular tea. Good luck!

  5. WARNING!!Do not eat the yummy stringy vegetable /seaweed that comes with Japanese food... ir is so good but I had a mayor stuck and PB episode  It did not stop until all of the stringy green things came up!!! I have never seen so much of that gooy stuff that comes up...sorry... too visual... Imagine if i had gone for my fill yesterday!!! How can anyone eat anything with a fill when I get stuck without warning and have no fill!

  6. hey guys i had my surgery over 10 months ago or so and i typically find that i still have shoulder pain in my left shoulder, sort of like the pain of gas when i first had the surgery done, well this pain typically comes i guess after i eat "too much" is this the way my band is telling me i ate too much? everytime i take a breath in i feel it, it is bothersome....

anyone experience this? and what can i do about it? sometimes i still am hungry or do not have that full feeling yet when it happens

    thanks

    reyna

Same thing happens to me...i take Gas X and try to remember not to eat too much ...i am still trying to figure out when I feel satisfied and not full...when i feel FULL I get the shoulder pain.

Tom...hmmmmm.. I am trying to see if I know someone your way that might help with the "other" exercising :D

Applications gladly accepted. :heh: And, if they're willing to my sugar mommy (heck, at this point, I'd take a sugar daddy too!) all the better. :D

    Tom

Hmmmm....Tom, we need to find you a girlfriend!!!!:faint: You've been hiding :) for wY TOO LONG!

  9. I've been doing the recumbent bike for 15 minutes (try to keep it equivalent to 15 MPH - burn about 500 calories per hour) followed by the weights (one day upper, one day lower) and then 5 more minutes on the bike. Trying to build the second session on the bike up to 15 minutes. Right now, I'm only going twice a week but I've been doing lots more around the farm moving hay bales, putting up fences, etc. Soon will be carrying Water buckets. I hope to work in another 1-2 times a week at the fitness center to do some cardio (bike, treadmill, etc.) And there will come a day when the ellipitical machine and I will meet. And, of course, I'm always trying to get as many of the "other" exercising in as possible. :help:

  10. MIsty,

Assuming you are 5'3.. 181lbs and the age you posted here then i calculated your BMR to be 2013. To calculate your maintain weight cals I put you down as sedentary since i do not know your exercise level and to maintain weight you need 2,585 calories a day. So if you eat between 1,000 to 1,300 calories a day you could lose alot of weight!!! More with exercise. Also remember if you eat only 600-800 clas a day for more thana few days your body thinks it is starving and will hold on to weight insyead of losing it. Also this is considred starvation mode so you will also lose hair and get sick . Below is the site to calculate your maintannce weight

    http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html

  11. Tom, Even with subtracting 700 calories, I still am at 1700 calories a day. Thanks for the help.

    Misty

    MIsty,

Once you calculate your BMI that is what you burn if you are say...sleeping only for 24 hrs. No moving. You need to calculate also and there should be a link or on the same site how many calories you need to just maintain your weight.... mine is way over 2,000 so if I want to lose weight I know if I eat even 1,200 calories every day i will still lose! 3,000=1lb of weight lost. 2,000-1200=800 calorie deficit per day roughly times 7 days per week =5,600 divided by 3,000 (1lb) is 1.86 lbs lost per week if I always eat 1,200 calories a day with no additional exercise except daily living activities.

  12. Misty, where are you finding that 1200 is "norm"? Most nutritional guides are based on a 2000 calorie diet when it lists the percent of daily requirements. Using the base of 10 calories per pound on the BMR scale, a 120 pound person that does NOTHING needs 1200 calories to maintain current weight. My guess is that none of us are anywhere near 120 pounds unless we happen to be about 2' tall or we wouldn't be here! You're likely to find that your BMR is a lot closer to 2000. (Just rechecked mine and mine is almost 2300.) While the calculators aren't as accurate as an actual reading (my reading showed almost 500 calories more than the calculator) it gives you a really good base from which to work. Once you have an idea of how many calories you need for the basic functions of life, you can better plan the calories you can consume keeping in mind that a daily reduction of 500 calories yields approximately one pound of weight loss. In other words, if you burn 2000 calories a day breathing and you eat 1500 calories a day, and you've done nothing else but breath all week, you should lose one pound.

My suggestion is to calculate your BMR and strive for 500-750 calories less than the requirement. That's 1-1.5 pounds a week weight loss. ANYTHING you do will burn calories so if you could easily lose an additional 1 pound a week just with normal functions. Add in some cardio (the recumbent bike I use has a calorie counter and I burn about 500 calories an hour so if I would use it one hour a day, which does NOT happen, I would lose another pound a week just from that), maybe some light weights for toning, and of course, plenty of sex, and you should be able to lose weight at a healthy rate.

    Tom

    Tom,

You took the words right out of my mouth! :) I have been losing an avg of 2-2.5 lbs a week eating betwen 800 -1100 calories a day. The more I move the more I lose of course. I decided not to have my fill this week will wait a bit more...down to 190-191 so that makes it 36 lbs since Nov.3

Tom, I joined Gold's gym and tried out your elliptical machine....ouch...lasted a loooooonnnnggggg 4 minutes!!!! then I did treadmill for about 25 mins. and then some weights.

  13. I did decide to wait. My doctor is only up here once a month. His main office is in San Francisco and I had my surgery in San Jose at Good Samaritan Hospital. I wouldn't have the guy that does it here do mine. I researched many doctors and the ones I chose were among the best that do this. Lots and lots of experience. How long ago did you live here? Sure has been changing in the last 10+years.

IS it Dr. Cirangle or Jossart? We practice out of California Pacific med ctr. in SFO... I have been thinking about Jossart doing my fills once I have my first one by my surgeon in MX.:)

  14. What will we be eating...... Goat?? :hungry: (sorry, Tom, I couldn't resist!)

Y'all come.... I would love it!!!

Gee we should do it...when it's a bit warmer ....fun! Karen's place in the summer!! :girl_hug:

Yes I am going to Paris, france... it has been a while and this is a good time to go due to lower airfares... also I have not seen my best friend in 3 years!! Also other friends I have there... good way to get over someone also! :)

  15. Hi everyone! I got my second fill today. Don't feel the difference yet but maybe by tomorrow?

Glad to hear that your ok Tom. Brrrr...and what luck with the restraunt. Your servers must have trained here. I think I have had them before. lol.

I'm in Northern California and wishing I had that Southern Cal sunshine. I do get to enjoy the ocean so I can't complain too much. And I'm not 9 feet deep in snow.

Does everyone else feel as cold as I am since they've been banded? I've always been the one sweating and opening the windows in the office. Now I am turning up the heat!

Where in Nor Cal are you? I am in Marin.... I am not sure if I already asked you...so many people!!! :embarassed:

  16. Vicki,

That would be great! I would love to know another person who feels like I do about the beach.... I am also white as snow, and hate how I look in a bathing suit (and would not like to share THAT view with anyone else!) But I LOVE watching the waves, hearing the ocean sounds, walking on sand. Usually, I do that in the early evening.... It is nice to live so close to the beach. :shade:

    Karen

Karen-MMMMM sounds soooo nice...i love the beach also!! In that same way.... no beach bunny here... I'm going to PAris in March.... using the money I wouold have spent on the fill for Paris instead.... Once I really need a fill I will know it....maybe I am one of those who don't need one for a looong time!:D :Banane20:

Tom- I joined Gold's Gym today and tried the elliptical...thought of you!!! OUCH! 4 minutes and I was panting!!! Then i did the threadmill for 25 minutes and a few weights.... felt good!

  17. I lost around 60 or 80 pounds without a fill. Some people can go without for quite a while. Now I haven't had a fill in almost 2 years. I think I still have a fair amount of internal restriction. This is a blessing; fills can get expensive.

i am ay 35 lbs lost without a fill. Did they ver explain to you why so long ?? I even get certain food stuck and have had a few PB'S!
