  1. Hi.. I had my lapband placed in 2010 and it was awesome for the first couple years and then nothing but problems. I had a revision on Feb. 5, 2015 to gastric bypass and I'm loving it. No more throwing up, heartburn, feeling the port inside my belly! I couldn't be happier. Remember there is a higher rate of complications with either surgery since its a revision and probably a nice amount of scar tissue is hiding under there. Anyway so far (5 weeks post op) I'm feeling amazing. I'm losing weight and feeling great! Starting 229 now 204. So excited. Btw I started before my lapband at 305! Can't wait to get to 199.9! Good luck, research. And figure out what would work best for you. It looks like the lap band being restrictive only didn't work.. The sleeve is the same restrictive only. The bypass is restrictive and gives you malabsorption... You will do great no matter what you choose!

  2. So I had my surgery and my band is gone. They were able to do the conversion to bypass even though I had a lot of scar tissue. I had surgery on Thursday and was suppose to go home Friday, but due to my insides being so swollen I am still hospitalized until either Sunday/Monday. Depends on if I can hold down fluids. The pain isn't bad just ready to go home!!!

  3. I was banded in 2010 and lost 105lbs. However, I started having extreme heartburn and vomiting and weight loss fluctuation (180-220 etc) After years of attempting to find my "sweet spot" by adding and removing fluid... Several upper GIs and not being able to hold more than 1cc in my band the doctor and I have decided to do the revision. I am currently scheduled for surgery on 2/5/15 and for some strange reason as of yet, I am not afraid, but I am excited. I have been feeling sick for so long I can't wait to start to feel better. I mean, yes, there is a possibility that I can wake up with just my band gone and no other WLS done due to scar tissue (that's the only thing I worry about) but we won't know until they remove the band and see how much damage it has done. I can't wait to get my energy back and run and play with my babies (2 and 6) Hope all goes well.

  4. I am sorry to throw my own drama in this, but I have had severe issues with my lap band (banded 2009) from GERD, vomiting, stomach pain, distended esophagus. I have tried everything with my doctor to try to make the lap band work for me (as I have lost over 100 lbs). I saw my doctor today and he said I have three options.

    1. remove the band and have no other surgery

    2. remove the band, and have a bypass

    3. remove the band, and have a sleeve

My surgeon said he is leaning towards the bypass since I have really bad heartburn already, but he said with a revision there is a 20% chance of leaks. This freaks me out since I have two little kids.

It seems like everyone posting in here has had a positive outcome. Do you have any suggestions or other pages I might visit to become a little more educated in this matter prior to going under the knife?

  5. So this question may sound really weird, but my friend/co-worker had her lap band surgery done October 12, 2009. She recently visited a theme park and went on the roller coaster that had rough turns and upside down loops. She loves roller coasters and this was her first ride on one since her surgery. When she got off the ride her stomach felt un-easy and she felt un-balanced. She has never had this feeling before after getting off a roller coaster (she has rode the above roller coaster several times pre-op). Has anyone else had something like this happen to them or know of anything that might cause this post-op?

  6. bashkan..... sounds like you're doing great! I found a great Protein drink at costco. I started eating some what of a regular diet and it's going well. In three weeks I've gone from 279 to 248... It's pretty exciting! It's nice watching the numbers on the scale drop. I hope you are doing well.....

divamom.... you are doing great. it's hard to stick to the liquid part of the diet....... it gets so boring but soon enough you will be on your way to "normal" foods... Today we has mcdonalds for dinner i had a fish fillet, without the bun (only 2.5oz).

  8. Jen,

I am so excited for you.. It sounds like you are doing great!!! I can't believe you got pictures, I am so jealous. My throat did hurt as well.. but it went away the next day, hopefully you will have the same outcome..

My first day after I came home from surgery I just slept and slept and slept... I guess anesthesia don't get along too well =)

Well I hope you have a great night and feel okay..

    Take Care,

    Melissa

  9. Jen,

I hope your surgery went well and you have a fast recovery. My surgery wasn't so bad, my tummy didn't really hurt, but the gas that came out of me shoulders really sucked. The liquid diet isn't bad either, just make sure you have a large variety of things to "drink" lol...

My appointment was awesome.. I lost 15 pounds the first week and now I am at 20 pounds and it hasn't even been two weeks yet. It's really exciting seeing the scale go down....

I am almost completly healed and I have no pain.. It's great.. so far so good..

Please update me and let me know how you are doing!

    Take Care,

    Melissa

  10. I had my surgery on Febuary 15th and I'm feeling not too bad! I'm still a little sore and it really sucks to burp/hiccup... I am not really hungry but my tummy did start rumbling today when I made my son a grilled cheese sandwich.... I haved my follow-up appointment on Monday the 22nd, so we will see what happens then.. anyway,.. I would love to hear from others who just had their surgery...

I wish us all the best of luck in our journeys ahead of us!!!
