  1. Let me know how you do with skating. I am getting banded on 11/17 and i play hockey and i am wondering how long i need to take off

I've been wondering the EXACT same thing!

Small, small world to meet another derby gal here  AND one that is kind of close (I'm in MD!)

My band date is coming up on November 2nd and I told my league I'll be on medical LOA for a few weeks.

I have brought up skating/derby with my doctor and nutritionist but they don't really know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty scared of getting the port hit hard.

So you felt that good a week'ish later?? That's awesome. I was so afraid I'd be off skates for at least a month or so.

  2. I am sure there is bad apple or 12 but it is the internet so there bound to be around ;)

I am excited. I have always been big but I so looking forward to being back to a young weight:)

Welcome! You sound excited. The people here are for the most part very friendly and supportive, once in a while you run into a bad apple. But almost everyone is is great

  3. Oh oh me first me first... I can't wait to feel comfortable in a swimsuit - go to a waterpark - wear shorts... YIPPEE! You?

You know there are alot of things I look forward to doing (tucking my shirt in, not working around my gut when putting my skates, looking down and seeing my dick, the normal things hahahah) but i have to say the one thing i want to do is Stage dive again. Growing up in a punk rock hardcore music world stage dives were one of the greatest things in the world to do but i realize there is a weight window for these things and i have long passed it, but if i get down below 200 i am going to do it and not see the look of a bunch of horrfied faces of people going noooo the big guy is going to crush us

  4. I am 30 years old, have always been plus size (5"10, 368 lbs, size 28) and have extremely high self esteme. I was a plus size model in my earlier years and I'm sure that helped with body image. My desire to have the band isn't necessarily to improve my self confidence, rather to improve my way of life. I'm looking forward to working out (surprisingly), to not dreading stairs, booths at restaurants and shopping. Finding boots that will easily fit my calves is going to be amazing.

So after a cousin of mine had the surgery I decided to look into it. I've done much research, read A LOT of postings on this website (all incredibly helpful) and spoken with many people. It has all happened really quickly. After meeting with the surgeon and the psychologist, my surgery date is set for December 21st (3 weeks). I am both nervous and excited. My question for you all is what to expect, right after surgery, the weeks and months to come. How quickly did you all see results?

i love to read about people wanting to loose weight just to make getting around eaiser, not because they feel "fat" just because you are big never means your not beautiful good for you

  5. Wow, you got off easy with only 3 months and a phyc eval, I have had to do a 6 month diet with a doctor, a PT eval., ekg, blood work, lung tests, sleep appnea test, and I have to meet with a heart doctor next week, my last visit will be with a nutritionist. I am having a hard time keeping them all strait.

They may or may not of wanted some of those for me a as well but I was already diagnosed with sleep Apnea and had high blood pressure so those were taken care of. You know I am curious what they look for in the supervised diet. Do they want to see if you can loose weight or that you can't thats why you need the lap band

  6. Hi everyone! I'm loving this site, it has been helpful & encouraging to hear others stories. Here's mine...

So I started the process in January of this year. I originally wanted breast reduction surgery but was denied by my insurance. They said I need to lose. Weight first. So discouraged one of the doctors suggested I look into lap band. I have researched numerous times, but this the first time I set up an appointment with a surgeon. I had the meeting in February and was nervous but excited. I came home talked to my parents and they were all for it, but when I talked to my boyfriend he was adamant I not do it, and basically talked me out of it.

But it has been in the back of my mind for months. I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol two problems I've never had before October I made the decision, my birthday was nov 16th which I turned 29 and realized I want to get my health together before I turn the big 3 0.

I called the surgeons office they gave me the phone numbers to the cardiologist, psychologist, and sleep center.

I had my cardio appointment today and was cleared. I also had the psych eval and was cleared. So Monday nov 29th is my sleep center appt and hopefully I will be cleared with that as well.

I am hoping to have my surgery in december....

    (excited & ready!)

    Welcome!

I think the lap band/ weight loss is a better idea then the breast reduction to start. My daughter had a breast reduction when she was 16 (she was a GG she reduced to a C. she is now 19 and back DDD/F) I think he weight may be playing into this a lot cause we all agree that is just to much boob for one person to get ;) any way if you have to do the diet don't be crushed. Think of it is just one more game you have to play to get to your goal. Plus it will be a basic training for the life style change for when you get the band.

  7. Three months actually isn't too bad; most require six.

Welcome to the wait though, it won't be long 'till you can start your new healthy lifestyle! :)

    Good luck on your journey.

I am hoping i can use the time when I was in radiation theropy as part of the supervised diet. I had to go in daily for weigh ins and had a diet i had to follow. I must admit it was the funniest diet ever...

Doctor: " do you like milkshakes?"

    me: "Like diet shakes"

D: "no fully leaded icecream kind"

me: "Look at me of course i do"

D: " well i want you to drink as many as you want"

M: "ummm thats the first time i heard that in a diet"

D: " Trust me if you can get em down drink all youlike"

yeah i could not drink em after the 2nd week so i lived on ensure shakes ... damn the cruel irony

  8. I got news back from my insurance company and found out what hoops I have to jump though. I have to do a 3 month supervised diet and a psyc eval which is not to bad. I really just want to get this done but, i realize this is the waiting game everyone talks about. I think as i start the process i will do pics and weights before the supervised diet though just to have a highest starting point

  9. Hello!!! So my name is Jim and how did I get to this point...well I like food which I guess is obvious. But why did I want to loose weight? I have been big most of my life just like the nick name BigJim says. I am 6'2" and about 280 at the most I have been 300 which is not the worse BMI in the world but lets talk about health... Have any of you ever had your blood pressure taken and the nurse or doctor looks at the machine and then looks at you and they have the look of how are you still alive? Thats me so I got

    Stage 2 Hypertension

    Type 2 Diabeties

    and Thyroid Cancer

the later is actually how I ended up here. Let em explain when I was going through my radiation food tasted bad i mean really bad but smelled wonderful which is a cruel trick. but in those 8 weeks I lost 45 lbs. and I had never felt better about myself. just dropping those extra pounds and i felt amazing. THe doctors were not happy about the weight loss they actually threatened a feeding tube and I was like are you high I got cancer and if if the only good spot is some weight loss i am taking it. But go forward a year the weight has slowly came back. It stayed out for awhile but as i stretched my stomach out again I just ate more and well you know the story. Portion Control has always been my biggest issue. But any way I go in to my consultation 11/9 with my wife ( we are both having it done) so wish us luck and hello!!!

    And a hello pic
