I am in Australia and they will allow you to usae your superannuation money for the surgery I think you just need a letter from your doctor and they will release the money for you (if you have superannuation)... I am lucky to have private health cover as it is not done in the public system here so is quite expensive (about the same as you have quoted in Aussie dollars).. I hope you can find a way to do this , from the seminar I went to tonight and from the posts I have been reading here is seems to me the best way to go... The specialist we saw tonight also does the Gastric By Pass maybe if you can`t afford the band that would be the way to go..
  5. Good Luck , I wish you well ..I am just starting off with the doctors but have been told there is only about 4 to 6 weeks wait , so if I check out medically I hope to be banded in Mid March.....I hope it works I am sick of being too fat to enjoy life...
  6. Well I am pretty excited to have made the decision to have the Banding done...Tomorrow I make an appointment with my normal GP get a reference and a blood test done then make an appointment with the surgeon and dietician...I am hoping for the proceedure to be done mid March if I can manage it there is about a month waiting and the specialist will make a booking on the first visit for the op. Two weeks prior to the proceedure I have to drink optifast this alone should start the weight loss happening , I hope I can do it 2 weeks on a liquid diet only..... I will try to start from today to limit my food intake might as well start so have added a weight loss ticker to my profile .... wish me luck I will keep you informed .....
  7. Hi !! How are all you members going that have had your banding ?? are you glad you did it ..any down side..?? I am going to a film and talk on the banding tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday) ..I really think its the only way left for me to go ..I have just given up on all other ways to loose weight.. I am a oldie ...62yrs old in February ..I don`t want to be fat on my 63rd Birthday so hopefully will get the surgery asap after seeing the specialists .. What am I in for ..?? My weight gain has continued slowly from about 50years of age (menapause and the empty nest syndrome hitting at the same time)..I was slightyly over weight in my mid to late forties , so I thought but when I look back now , I wish I was back at my then weight... I am about 118.00 Kilos.. so need to loose 40 to 50 kilos ..................I wonder if its too late sometimes ... I am so sad to have let myself come to this and just want to hide away from the world... O.K I hope after tomorrowI have the courage to go ahead with this plan... Excersizing is hard , I have no enegy or motivation ..and worse of all my joints scream with aches and pains just walking which I am trying to do starting 3 times a week ..when the weather is extreamly hot I just can`t do it ..I am too ashamed to get into swimmers to use a pool which I am told would be easier on my knees.... Oh ! well I will see when I get to speak to the specialist see what hope they give me.... I hope you are all doing well and I would love to read about your experiences Good and bad .. Chat later .. Majj
  8. Congratulations ... I went to my first seminar held by the Doctor here that does the surgery , I was very impressed..and calling tomorrow to make an appointment and hopefully March April I will be able to have the proceedure done too... I have to call HCF to see if they cover (private fund) some do and some do not so it was said...fingers crossed they do cover it.... I will have to follow your progress as hopefully I won`t be far behind you... Well done I am happy for you....
  9. I am off to my first seminar tomorrow afternoon one step closer to having the banding done , I have been trying for years without success to loose my weight I am now the heaviest I have been for ages and feel awful, house bound antisocial and sad ... I hope if I decided to go ahead it doesn`t take long, I have Private health cover so I won`t need to worry about the money side , although I guess there will be a gap to pay.. Well off to bed back tomorrow evening after I learn more...

    Any negatives?...

so glad to see I am not the only older person contemplating this proceedure.... Looking forward to reading more on here but for now I need to go do some work.. The Possitives seem to out weigh the negatives from what I have read so far.... I am getting excited about the seminar tomorrow and learning more...
