  1. I'm getting banded May 17th also. I started my my pre-op diet today, what kind of Protein are you taking? I use platinum hydrowhey and put it in either skim milk or almond milk (almond milk has less carbs so I try to stick with that. The protein i use is really good, esp the vanilla. Try blending your shakes with some ice in the blender, maybe some splenda if its not sweet enough? Are you allowed to have some fruit, or yogurt, or NATURAL Peanut Butter? Try throwing those in the blender with it if your allowed to once in a while. So far I have had two shakes and some zero gatorade. Im not hungry but I do want to just chew on something! Good Luck, remember what your doing this for!

    Acid Problems?

I just had my pre-op appt and my doctor said if I ever get acid problems after surgery to call his office. He said it shouldn't be happening... but I am not banded yet, so I dont know how any of it feels!!
  4. It depends who it is. The guy mikey, the really big guy eats only 800 cals, i know this because he lives around here and is being trained by one of my friends that is a personal trainer. They work out 6-8 hours a day and their food is on point! They dont cheat, theres no bad food in the house!
  5. I start tomorrow, my date is the 17th. I am eating everything in sight today.. i feeel sick :-( lol

  10. I am getting May 17th also!!! Congrats on your first step to a new life! I am 22 and have been put to sleep 3 times in my life already! I was too young to remember if I was scared the first time, or if I even remember the concept of what was going to happen. But you will be fine, you wont even remember it. I promise it will be worth gettting banded! You need to get healthy for yourself. If you need to talk, please message me, we should stay in touch with this journey. What is your pre-op diet?

    preo op requirements

THe way my doctors office did it was really weird. As long as I went to visit the doctor and record my weight 3 times in different months it counted. so say I went at the end of january, i could go at the start of feb and it still counted. I didnt have to wait a whole month inbetween my visits. I have a very hetic work and school life so thats why i didnt take full advantage of that. But im pretty sure the insurance company needs to see you finished that diet before they will even approve you.

    preo op requirements

Your doctor wont even submit your paper work to the insurance company until your 3 month diet is over.

    Hiatal Hernia

A hiatal hernia occurs when part of your stomach pushes upward through your diaphragm. A lot of people seem to get them repaired while getting banded. My surgeon told me I prolly have one because of all the heartburn I started getting in the past 6 months when before that I haven't had it at all!
  15. The pre op diet is used to shrink your liver. plus why not get a jump start on the weight loss. your going to have to change your eating habbits..its time to start now! the band isnt going to stop you from eating bad food. if you dont do the work the band isnt going to work, its only a tool. pre op diets are different it just depends on your suregon. most seem to be 2 week liquid diet. anything like protein shakes or soup.... hope this helps jdonnajay!

New to forum and I am failing....

First thing you have to remember is that your down 20 pounds!!!! Thats great! I read over what you eat in a day and I am also a slow weight loser, which sucks, but we are out there! I think you are consuming too many carbs. Maybe you should try to cut down on them a bit? Other then the egg, cheese, cucumbers and shrimp you are consuming all carbs! My trainer tells me 2 egg whites to one egg. Egg yolk has a lot of fat in it. Crotons and dressing are killers!!! Lean Cuisines have ton of sodium in them! Try to stay away from carbs all together 3-4 hours before you go to bed. Maybe go see a nutritionist? Good luck, keep your head up!!!!!!

    Help - Chopper

Try a hand blender. You can find them online or at the stores im sure.
  20. 1. I made my own choice on what surgeon I wanted, I researched the ones in my area and found one I liked, went to meet with him and and loved him. I haven't included my normal doctor in any of this. 2. It depends on your insurance. My surgeons office was pretty positive I would get approved with my primary insurance and denied with my secondary, and that is what happened. If you meet the requirements and your policy covers WLS then you should be good to go! 3. Its different for everyone. (look at my sig and it should tell you my times) 4. The only tests I took were metabolic, ekg, and a blood test. But there has been people that have had to take so many more. 5. Thats a great question.. as soon as I am banded ill let you kno! 6. For me, my doctor lets me eat only liquids for the first week, Soups, Protein shakes, Jello. More then that, but those are the basics. Then for week 2 and 3 im on to mushies/puree. That gives you a little more options. Then week 4 im allowed to eat solid foods again but have to be very careful!! 7. It seems a lot are back within a week, my surgeon suggests that everyone takes off a week but he says a lot of people are ready to go after 4 days. It all depends! I would say to go talk to a surgeon, ask them all these questions and more! It wont hurt to go talk to someone and see if this is the right thing for you. Good luck in your journey!
  21. Ya I start Monday. Melody said I could go with Optifast but I def opt out of that! lol I am not a fan of pre-made shakes at all! Id rather make my own and make them the way I like them, esp if i am going to be living on them for 2 weeks! I love the Protein powder called platinum hydrowhey. It is on the expensive side, but its the best stuff I have tasted, tastes like a milkshake, if you use it with milk to me! You can pick if up at any xsport or order it online.
