  1. Day 1 post op. Im home. Had cream of wheat. coffee. So far so good. Whomever recommended the weighted heat-pad, biggest thank you! No narcotics- gabapentin, tylenol, flexeril work well to control pain.

I recommend buying liquid adult tylenol. They gave me pills and it hurt alot…i asked for liquid tylenol after that. You can find adult liquid tylenol at Amazon if you cannot find in store

Hi, I'm Sandra and I am having a gastric sleeve on May 6th! I have been lurking here reading as much as i can of other's posts and have learned a lot. My situation is a little different as this is my second bariatric surgery. I had lap band surgery in 2009 and now am having it converted because my band stopped working for me. I did lose weight but then gained a lot back and recently have lost some again but need to lose more. My reason for surgery is to be healthier and hopefully improve my arthritis pain and mobility.

My emotions are currently all over the place, anxious, worried, happy and excited. I will start my liver prep diet in 1 week. Not looking forward to 2 weeks of shakes only. I really am not too concerned about the surgery itself, as I have had several surgeries, and the pain has not been bad afterwards.

As for my overnight hospital stay, I plan to pack as little as possible. I will plan on wearing home the clothes I arrive in. I think moisturizer and lip balm are good ideas. I may take a light robe. Someone mentioned a heating pad, but I don't think most hospitals allow you to bring them (coming from a retired RN here). They can be a burn hazard if they malfunction. If I am only staying overnight, I may not need reading materials. I will likely watch TV and nap. Slippers to walk in will be needed.

I wish you all the best of luck for an easy surgery and pain free post-op course!

Also a lap band 2010. But surgeon requires removal of band -heal for 6 weeks- then revision. So it has been a really long year for me so far. But now only 8 days from rny. I bought a weighted heat pad with levels of heat and an auto off function. It is wonderful. Dont plan on taking it to hosp. But will definitely come in handy at home

how is everyone handling the daily meal for your significant others? Today my husband called me at work and asked mento pick him up pizza on my way home!!!! Rude… but he does need to eat and i dont want to cook. Lol.

  3. I start my pre op diet this week. I have everything. This is my second time with the diet. Last month surgery was cancelled the day prior due to lab work. So im back on track and scheduled 5/10. Nice to read all of your posts. I watched a couple of surgery videos today too.

  4. 5/10. Im a bit nervous. Also a failed lap band from 2010 :( but my team is great and im envisioning a healthy future to keep me motivated.
I packed lip balm. Moisturizer. Earplugs. Phone charger.

Don’t plan on being there long and come home in same clothes wore in! The dietitian said not to plan on liking any Protein Shake i liked preop so be careful what you stock up on. I seem not to mind any of them so it will be ok!

New to posting and talking about all this.

  5. I have moved in the last four years and the only local physician in-network has stopped placing Lap Band... She actually talks negatively about it. Needless to say, I didn't go back. It has been three years since my last follow up and I am failing. I have never lost more than 15 pounds with the band, but it did not come back.

My last visit I had a stretched esophagus so they took the Fluid out of the band to heal the esophagus.

I want to see a new physician and I am looking for someone close with a good reputation in the Hershey/Harrisburg area (17033). I would like to get back on track and If that isn't possible I am willing to consider other options. I am also currently having some heartburn after having the Flu and Bronchitis and fear something might have happened with all the coughing.

Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

  8. You can drink too much through a straw and swallow more air than usual, which will cause some discomfort. Usually, you can burp air without a problem, but the band allows minimal stuff down or up, so burping does hurt a bit, and if you have to burp and cant, you might be uncomfortable for a while.

  9. I often have trouble with breads coming back up, even things like Cereal. The chest/back pain is the feeling of something trying to fit through the little narrowing from the band. The esophagus expands to let it fit, but your band does not. Make sure you chew well, slowly, and swallow half bites instead of whole mouthfuls. That usually helps me. I have been able to eat just about everything as long as I eat carefully.

You shouldn't be outright vomiting because it can cause slippage of your band, so be gentle on your new stomach. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about calories and types of food you are eating to be sure you are on the right track.

  10. after the doctor says his bandages can come off, the wounds should be uncovered so they can dry. creams, neosporin and ointments aren't good until they are completely healed because they make the scab moist and vulnerable to infection. you should really talk to your doctor about what to do about it. I found out I am allergic adhesive after gallbladder surgery and had huge blisters everywhere a steri strip touched and everywhere the bandage was. Doctor knows best!

  11. the lapband.com site is good. You can sign up as a member which gives you access to track your weight before and after surgery, help you with a list of questions for your doctor, and there aretons of other things available on that site.

  12. Lap band is a "tool" for weight loss. After surgery you will be on a special diet for the first month. Then after that it is like a baby, you introduce new foods cautiously until you know what you can and can't tolerate. You will eat much less, but you can eat many of the same foods you love. I had chicken tenders yesterday for the first time and they were fine. You have to be careful to follow you doctor's instructions or the "tool" will not work right. It is a lifetime committment so don't take it lightly, you are right to have concerns and maybe you should talk to your doctor. Your post stated your stress well, take it with you to remind you what to ask about or call them on the phone.

  13. Congratulations! Don't worry the pain will go away. I hurt from shoulder pain in the hospital so bad I cried and paced the halls all night. Morphine, toradol and percocet gave minimal relieve and for a short period of time. It took a whole week for me to be able to sleep in bed. Don't eat too fast because it will cause the pain to come back once you do get rid of it.

  14. I have been banded for six days now. Honestly, my start was rough because I had lots of gas pains. However, I don't feel the band when lying on my stomach. Also, I can barely feel the port site either. The first couple days I felt kind of "tight" around the midsection, but that is probably from the surgery. It has gone away today. I have lost 15 lbs in a week because I haven't wanted to eat or drink anything. I have managed to stay hydrated and I've had to remind myself to drink my shakes.< /p>
