  1. It's not actually breastfeeding that makes them sag...most of the breast change occurs during pregnancy. So by the time of delivery the damage is done...so to speak:laugh:

    return to work

I am an RN as well. I intially planned 1 week off. I had alot more shoulder pain than I expected so I am taking an extra week. My doctor is realeasing me back to work next week with restrictions on how much I can lift and no pushing, pulling, bending or squatting alot. I am now finding out that my hospital may not allow me back with ANY restrictions. So that is something else to consider. I did apply for FMLA for my surgery to be on the safe side. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Another nurse I know that works in my hospital took 6 weeks, knowing she could not guarentee to not do anything on the list of restrictions.
  3. Dr. D and his staff are awesome!!! Always willing to answer questions. A very complete and comprehensive program. I couldn't be happier!!!

    PAIN - any doctors?

I had a searing ripping pain on sunday night right near my port. I had bent down to give my beagle a swat on the butt for barking at another dog. I called monday and the receptionist said since this was a new and different pain I should be seen. I saw the doc today, he doesn't think I did any damage, but also said that we won't know that the port is in the right place and correct side up until we attempt tp access it at my first fill scheduled for June 1. I totally agree with everyone, that your pain should not be getting worse. And certainly not to the point that you feel like you can barely breath. I say call back and insist on an appt....otherwise, show up at the office... Hope you start to feel better soon.

    Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!

I was banded 1 week ago and by thursday I was hungry. So my surgeons office let me move to mushies 4 days early. Saw the doc today as I had some intense pain after bending down to discipline my dog! No damage done...yeah. He asked how I was doing was I hungry. I said, yes I think I am getting hungry earlier between meals than I think I should. He said then move to real food. WOOHOO. :crying::thumbup::drool: Oh and I am down 10 pounds since surgery!!!

    Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!

I was banded on May 3rd. I was hungry by thursday. I was able to do full liquids, but I don't like plain milk. So I talked to the surgery coordinator and she gave me the ok to try yogurt and cottage cheese. OMG :thumbup:I was in heaven. I moved onto mushies, tuna fish flaked really well with low fat mayo, same with chicken, mashed potatoes today...just one day early. I have tolerated everything fine and by my scale I have lost about 8 pounds since the 5th. I had some crazy pain last night at my port site after bending over. So I am headed to my surgeon to make sure everything is ok and still in the right spot....I certainly hope so:confused:
  7. mine is a little different. I was out walking with my mom as she walked my dogs and my beagle started to bark at another dog. I reached down to swat him on the butt and tell him to hush. Well when i reched down omg i felt pain!! I called the doctor today since that area is still tender. It's right where my incision for the port is. Since this is new pain, I have an appt. tomorrow afternoon. Really hoping I didn't rip something or that anything is now out of place
  8. I had not had general anesthesia since I was 6 yrs old. So I didn't know what to expect. I had a hard time staying awake, I couldn't focus and I was dizzy and the dizziness made me nauseous. I only vomitted twice. I also required oxygen because when I would sleep my oxygen saturation would drop. I also had some difficulty urinating at first. But by 2 am I felt so much better. I got up and walked in the halls....my nurse about fell over with the change in me. I felt stupid...I am a nurse and I wanted to be so in control, but I wasn't and I had to let that go. I was however ok enough to facebook occasionally! Inspite of the difficulty I never regretted my decision. I might just be one of those people who is very sensative to anesthesia. Don't let my or anyone elses story scare you. I can look back now and laugh at things I did and said. GOOD LUCK!!!
  9. I am 4 days post-op, and am not having the grandest time. I am having alot of trouble with shoulder pain. However I do not regret my decision at all. This is a tool that is going to help me change my life. It has already started. I felt full after jello!! And throwing up although not fun was soooo different. I had a lot of trouble coming out of anesthesia so I was dizzy and vomitting for about 18 hours after surgery. Despite all of this, I know this was the best thing I have ever done and I look forward to what is to come
  10. I recommend a heating pad. I also had my surgery May 3rd. I am having a lot of left shoulder pain and the heating pad is really helping!!!
  11. I am doing ok as well. My doc gave liquid vicodin....it's so vile i can't do it!!I have taken chewable tylenol. I am having Left shoulder pain...using a heating pad for it. and then forcing myself to sip the liquids, as I am not hungry.

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

had mine done monday....had some trouble coming out of the anesthesia, I was very dizzy and nauseous. I was not able to get up and walk around like you should. I didn't feel better until about 2am. So that's when I took my first walk. I had a small hernia he had to repair, so I am having alot of the Left referred shoulder pain. I lost 25 pounds on my pre-op diet and doc said my liver looked great!!

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Well I have been on my pre-op diet for almost 2 weeks and I have lost 25 pounds!!! I am so excited, feels like a good start to the rest of my life. Surgery is monday, I am so excited, but a little nervous as well.

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

I am using the zero carb already made ones. They are clear and come in a 20 ounce glass bottle.

    100 lbs in 4 months

Amazing!!!! I have about 200 pounds to lose, I am hoping for some quick loss initially. The last diet I was on I lost 65 pounds in 6 months. If I could get close to that I would be happy. Getting banded 5-3-10!!!!
  16. I am also having my surgery May 3rd. I am nervous, but it's more about the anesthesia. I know that yes I want and need this. You can have Pasta again, just a much smaller amount and a healthy whole wheat pasta with lots of Fiber. I guess I could see some people being uncomfortable with an implantable device in their body. But what if you needed a pacemaker? That's an implantable device that you would need to have in your body for the rest of your life. I have to look at it this way, this is a tool to a better life. I don't know about you but I am merely exhisting, not really living because of my weight. I don't even imagine to get on an airplane, or a roller coaster. I servey every chair I think of sitting in, saying to myself will I fit, will it break. I can not live like this anymore. May 3rd is the beggining of the rest of the best of my life. I hope this helps, good luck with surgery!!

    Why Tell Anyone?

I am just a very open person. So I have told everyone. I am also a nurse and we are all a very close group of women. I am so happy to say that I have had not one negative reaction. Everyone is so excited for me, thinks this is such a great thing. I have one ex-coworker who says she is taking me on a shopping trip when I am ready. I have over 200 pounds to lose, so my weight and struggles with it are no secret. I certainly hope that the support and encouragement continues as the weight loss occurs. My mom and I booked a cruise today for Feb of 2011, and I thought to myself...wow I am going to enjoy that cruise so much more than any of the others. I will fit in the tiny bathroom better, will fit in the chairs at dinner. I won't be as self conscious going out to the dance clubs at night. Just over all I know I will have a better time.

    How many of you.....

My surgeon requires an overnight stay. He has you up and walking an hour after arrival to your room and then every hour to 2 after that. He also has us on Arixtra, a blood thinner for 7 days post op. To be able to gome home you must be able to tolerate sips of your Breakfast tray and give your first injection to yourself. I am ok staying the night, they encourage someone staying with you. I am an RN as is my mom, so she is gonna be my support person. I have given her permission to be my ambulation and incentive spirometer nazi. Heck my surgeon gave me my incentive spirometer at my pre-op appt!

    Cheating on Pre-Surgery Diet

I can tell you that I went most of the pre-op process 2 yrs ago, had the cardiac work-up...was ready to go. Then I doubted my readiness, I listened to those saying surgery is so invasive. I was on a high Protein medically suppervised diet( with diet pills) and they said " see you are doing it,you dont need surgery". I didn't like the pills so I stopped taking them. Then I had some personal stress in my life and fell right off the edge. So here I am 2 yrs later, gained all the weight back. But I have a new resolve, I KNOW this is the right decision for me. Obviously that just wasn't the right time. Now is my time. I believe you will find your time too. And when that time comes you will know, and it won't be easy but you will be able to do it.

    Cheating on Pre-Surgery Diet

I started my pre-op diet last friday, it's 2 weeks of 2-3 Protein shakes and a lean protein meal with green leafy veggies for lunch OR dinner. It has been difficult, I assure you as I am starting this at almost 400#'s. But this is the beggining of a change. From now on there will be foods that you can't or shouldn't have. I agree the "head" hunger is the worst. But since I know that has been a huge problem for me all along this is helping me say....Am I really hungry? or am I just thinking of food? The only thing I have done that could be called a "cheat" is 1 or 2 sugar free jello's a day. And I talked with the nutritionist at my doctor's office and her only concern was not to encourage snacking behavior. I got weighed at my pre-op appt yesterday, 5 days after starting this diet....I lost 14 pounds!!!! Let me assure that was motivation enough to keep me going. I am sure some was Water weight....but any time the number on that scale goes down I am a happy woman. Remember that we are all here to support one another, I don't think any of these post have been preachy....they are all realistic. And I for one need to make sure I stay realistic and motivated.

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Had my pre-op appt yesterday! Surgery is scheduled for May 3rd at 7:30 am!!! Now I am just scared about the whole having surgery thing. I have never had surgery before. Pre-op diet is going ok...still hungry, Isopure is the only one I can stomach, but I still suck it down. And I know after surgery I have to sip slowly. But if I can do this I can do anything. Oh and I lost 14 pounds in 5 days!!! Although I am sure some of this was Water weight as I also started my cycle. But was super excited to see that!

    Who did you tell ?

lol...I told everyone...But that is just my personality. I have lost weight before and gained it back, and my true friends still love me. Everyone has been super supportive. I feel so sorry for people who feel like they are not getting the support. If you chose to keep it to yourself that is one thing, but to tell someone and not feel like they are supporting you in this MAJOR decision must be very hard.
  23. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
  24. me! I was at 389 in January when I went for my initial consult...and after 4 months and way too many one last time meals I have gained 20 pounds. I am now at 408....My pre-op is tomorrow and I have been scared to death my doctor will cancel my surgery. I started my pre-op diet on friday, the nurse at his office said as long as I lose by surgery I should be ok!

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

bummed, found out today that sugar free jello is not on my pre-op diet. OMG that has been the only thing keeping me sane... Oh well....just having a really hard time with the protein shake thing. Isopure is the only thing I can stomach.... And if I don't grow feathers and cluck by the time this is over with chicken every night it will be a miracle... Told my co-workers not to stand very close to me, I am a fat woman on a liquid diet and don't know when I might be overcome with hunger and take a bite!
