StevieVieth, Interesting description for the day everyone seems to be spending hours at the hospital about a week before surgery. lol I think every surgeon has its own special name for certain procedures lol.
Mine is called "pre-surgery/ Patient education day". Im not sure I like "bootcamp" as I was never much into beeing pushed to do things....that I might not want lol.
Im assuming that "Bootcamp" means the same as what my presurgery day..is......how about a poll???
What other creative names have the surgeons come up with for procedures that seem funny, or unusual?
Anyone else??
Hi Dawn, Matilda and Lauren. Good Luck and keep posting fellow Marchers.....
Wow...so many new posts and new names to remember!!!
I think ive caught up with all the posts ive missed over the last week and reentered....responses to most.
I will try to check more frequently so I dont miss so many posts that I would like to respond to when they are posted!!!
Soooo its been a real hectic week for me and its kind of looking like this week might be just as hectic but for different reasons.
I have been working with the "Make a Wish" foundation. I work with one little boy who was being granted a wish and they came to grant it this past week. I was working so hard all week to get his house ready. The Foundation was making him a sensory/snoozelin room as he is medically fragile and he cannot go out of his house...outside of hospitals and doctor offices. Cant wait till tomorrow to use all the wonderful materials and activities they brought for him. Its been months of working with all the wonderful people and putting all this together!
This week...well it started out all good...until last night lol When my daughters ear started bothering her. This morning I took her to the pediatrician and well...that led to visit to the dentist and then the oral surgeon. It was not a lovely day to say the least. Antibiotics, muscle relaxer and pain killers. From what I thought was an ear infection to removing an cyst in the gum.....whd have thought?
Next week is a holiday that....involve lots of junk food and candy...not a good thing for me....its like Holloween for the whole family with lots of parties and eating! HELP!!! Id like to get away from it all however, I have this 10 year old girl who is just dying for all the hoopla...as it is the holiday for kids, and carnivals and parties including costume wearing. I have lots of cooking and baking because we have lots of baskets we have to give out. It will be just peachy! NOT.
I got my pre-surgery date what Stevie calls Bootcamp I think....The date is March 4th. Im so excited...but this month is so busy I wont have time to think about the surgery it will be here before I know it!
Well....next week its...March 1st..so far all the March Bandsters....we are here!!!
Have a great week all.
Jodi
Bootcamp is just what my surgeon calls it, Well the whole hospital itself. They call it that because it is to get you ready for the procedure.Like in the army they send you to bootcamp to get ready for combat or anything. So I dont look at it as someone pushing you around. I look at it as preparing you for the day and the healing process. I learned more about it. They also call it pre admissions testing. I arrive and speak with the anesthesiologist, then I tour the surgery floor where I will be staying after Im out of recovery, then we meet with nurses and answer and ask questions, have blood drawn, get a goodie bag(suport pillow, the breathing tool to keep you from getting pnemonia, and paperwork) Not the type of goodie bag you want, but need. Then we go back to the surgeons office and meet with him. I had started my 1 week pre op liquid diet yesterday and it isnt that bad. I had a carnation instant Breakfast sugar free with skim milk in the morning it was only like 190 calories but 13 grams of Protein. then for lunch I had some chicken boullion(broth) and for dinner an Isopure Protein Shake. and a little sugar free Jello. I had made sugar free vanilla pudding but I did the smart thing and added a scoop of isopure creamy vanilla to it to make it actually worth eating. :tongue_smilie:

So I go today for my Pre-Op and for the last dietician appt. Surgury is 7 days away a little nervous but excited...I noticed that some others had to do a pre-op diet a couple weeks before their surgury...I was just wondering is that a required thing or do just some Dr.'s require it?My Dr. requires everyone to do a 1 week pre-op diet, no matter if you have a fatty liver or not. For patients with a fatty liver, they require a 2 or 3 week pre-op diet. I start mine today my surgery is next tuesday. I have bootcamp or pre admissions on thursday at the hospital, its getting close. :frown:

I will be banded on 3/2 by Dr. O @ Atlanticare in Atlantic City. My Husbands Aunt was banded by Dr. Patel and did not like him. She is looking into changing to Dr. O for her fills. Dr. O's staff is wonderful and I look forward to being banded by Dr. O I have heard so many great things about him. I also enjoy the support group meetings for the Lapband at the Altanticare Lifecenter in Egg Harbor Township. I would love to hear stories about what to expect. I go in for "Bootcamp" on Thursday this week.

How exciting!!!! What is the "bootcamp"? What all do you do/learn?Im not all sure what exactly bootcamp is. I know that I have to be at the hospital where the procedure takes place at 9am. I will talk to the anesthesiologist for an hour and go over everthing. Then there is a little class for another couple hours. Not sure exactly what. But then you also get a tour of the hosptal. And at some point I will go over to my doctors office and talk to the surgeon. Other then that all I know is this... I posted a subject in the forum asking if anyone knew this. But I guess a lot of other doctors do not require bootcamp.

Congrats to you, I know the feeling, My weakness is Nature valley granola nut clusters. They are fine in moderation.. But I can so eat a whole bag in one or two sittings. They are soo good. It does feel goo to walk by things in the grocery store, that you know you will feel guilty about eating later. When I know I am eating something I shouldnt be... It really bothers me in the long run. Physically and emotionally. a big HURRAY to me because this Valentines day I did not ask for chocolate, and my husband didnt even attempt to get any. Any candy for the matter. I did get Strawberries( Without the dipped chocolate) But that was it. I did ask for an edible bouquet ( The ones made of fruit) But the one I wanted was $69. Im a mush for Hello Kitty and they had one. But the Husband arlready bought me a rose bouquet and two hello Kitty Ty beanie Dolls!! I hope everyone had as good of a day as I had.

Hey all,Snowing again today in NY. I was going to see the psych today but decided not to . I'm not much for taking the bus & train and definitely didn't want to navigate all of that today with snow on top of snow on the ground. I've already broken my ankle 2x in the last few years. I think that's another result of my weight.
I'm a little depressed today. I went to the mall yesterday with my DH. I wanted to buy a Coach wallet that i had been looking at and a bag .
Have you ever just felt invisible? That's how I feel, invisible.
I'm standing in the store with my big down coat on and my long matronly skirt to hide my fat and my boots on and I just feel invisible standing there waiting to be helped and being ignored and I feel inside that's it's because of my dowdy , fat body now. After I finally got someone to wait on me I went across to the MAC store and same thing except as I walked in one of the young girls says "hello M'am" UGHHHH!!!
How did I ever get here? How did get so fat that I'm having surgery to help me solve this problem?
I have been told my whole life how pretty I am and then it turned to you have such a pretty face. Now all I feel is fat and unattractive.
OK, I just had to vent somewhere. I'm too embarassed to tell my DH how I feel and my friends would never understand.
Msdv its ok, Im sure most of us feel this way. I am actually going to therapy because of my body and self image. It is embarassing but if you need to talk to someone about it without judgement I advise you to do it this way. In 2007 before I got pregnant with my son I was only 120 lbs. I had taken an unhealthy attempt at becoming thin and believe me it worked but I am paying for it now. I believe my actions resulted in Karma coming around and making me gain 80 lbs during my pregnancy and keeping it on since then. I have tried really hard to lose weight, but even with diet and exercise I am merely losing a lb here and a few lbs there. And now my body is not likeing the weight, or the choices of weightloss. It sucks and I hear oh youre not fat. But YEAH right I know I am. How can you say someone who is 200 lbs and is only 4'10" is not fat? But in reality I have never been a skinny.. Even at 120lbs I was still curvy, but I was healthy. Think positive it will get better. Atleast this is my new outlook. By receiveing the band and taking the journey to a new and improved you.

Yes I am sorry to hear that your date got moved too. I hope that doesnt happen to me last minute. I am actually calling they office today to see if they heard anything. Just so I can make sure I have someone to watch my son on the 25th for my bootcamp if it is deffinant.

I am in the same boat...I called my insurance company yesterday and they said it was still "open" which means they're still reviewing everything in my case. I had my appointment last wednesday Feb. 10th, so hopefully I will know something by the end of the week...waiting is really the hardest part of all...:biggrin:Yeah waiting is the toughest part... I am just so excited. 2 weeks till the tentative date, and if everything with the insurance company goes well. Then it will be 2 weeks till the deffinant date. I had to go through the 6 month monitored diet, so I have been anticipating this day since last July. I went to the monthly support group last night. I think it really helps with support if you are not getting any from your family. My husband is 100% by my side, but some other family members just need to not know because of the fat that they may not approve .

My surgeon requires that the thursday before your surgery, you have to attend a bootcamp at the hospital that you will be going to. The only information they really told me at the Dr.'s office is that I will meet with the anesthesiologist, tour the hospital, and then have a little class. I was wondering how long could this take and what is involved. If there is anymore information to know.. My bootcamp day is 2/25/10 which is next week. My tentative surgery date is 3/2/10 as long as my insurance approves.

Hello Everyone,
First things first.. I am excited about starting my life over or beginning a new Journey which ever statement you would prefer. I am only 23 (yes, I know rather young to be banded) But there are so many issues medically in my families history that requires me to take charge of my life.
My tentative surgery date is right around the corner. March 2, 2010. I am just waiting on the insurance to accept. My last office visit was 2/9/10, and they said they will know within 5 to 7 days.SO I am just waiting on the lucky piece of paper to come in the mail finalizing my surgery date and bootcamp date.
My procedure will be funded if accepted by the insurance company.

Congrats, I know how exciting it is to hear about the approval through the insurance companies. I was sooooo excited when my dr.'s office called me to confirm, well mostly because I read some insurance companies take over a month to get back to you, but mine only too 5 days. My procedure date is next tuesday, 1 week!
