  1. Ive lost 40 since surgery only 40 more to go. I have an appt with my surgeon this week at some point, only for him to tell me that I do not need a fill. He stopped filling me at 7cc's in a 10cc bandand I have continuously lost weight since surgery on the 2nd. Ive been so busy this summer and Im finally joining a gym next month (october)I have lost some motivation with working out at home, but thats because I have been unable to get a job since my son was born. But now I have one so I am excited and motivated to continue on my lap band journey!

  2. I am still here March Bandsters. i do not log in because its summer at the Jersey shore. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary July 25th. He works 6 days a week all closing shifts so I barely see him at night. By the time he gets home I am ready for bed because I spend the day with a 2 year old.

I was banded at 209 lbs. I lost 16 right there that first week post op. I have then since steadily lost weight. I currently have 7cc's in a 10 cc band. My surgeon did not fill that last appointment and that was july 1st. I am about 173 now. I have alot of NSV's even as of last week.

I still no longer eat carbs and such no bread, Pasta or rice.Im usually out and about the whole day which leaves little room for exercise. I am guilty that I have been in a rut but I am constantly losing still.

  3. I really wouild re-think this decision. A friend of mine actually went in to my surgeons office before I had and she didnt weigh enough for her height to get accepted for surgery with the insurance she has. Her plan was to then gain weight and stop trying to lose weight to be eligible to have surgery.. Something wrong with that??? Yes I think so, why would someone go through all of the trouble to gain the weight only to have to try and lose it all in the long run... Its hard to lose Im not kidding. I have been banded for almost 4 months now and I am struggling. my friend has this philosophy that once she gets the band she can eat all she wants and she will lose weight.. It doesnt work like that. She just needs to stop being lazy and it will eventually work with or without the band.

  4. Hello all!!! I hope everyone is doing well! I haven't been on here in quite some time but I thought I would stop in and say hello. I am doing great! Since my last update (who knows when that was) I have:

    1. lost a total of 41 pounds
    2. had 3 fills for a total of 5.5ccs in my 10cc band (fourth on 7/7/10)
    3. completed the Couch to 5K program
    4. run a 5k
    5. signed up for my next race (4miler)
    6. fit into (snug, I will say) a size 16 at gap!!!!
    7. felt better than I ever have!!!

again, I hope everyone is doing wonderfully. Keep up the great work everyone!!!! :smile2:

check out my youtubevideos (link in signature) for more in depth updates from me, I update it every Tuesday (sometimes more).

Sounds great, I sent you a FB asking you about your progress but I never got a response.!:)

  5. You guys are awesome!! Thanks for the info and tips!!!

I am not allowed to have rice Pasta or bread ... But my doc said cous cous is fine in moderation. I have limited my carb intake and have been losing great. i have lost 30 since surgery day... not counting what I lost before. I have my next appt on thursday... I get the whole grain cous cous, little less calories and whatnot:huh2:

  6. I found this thread a bit late, but my banding was done March 3, 2010. I've had two fills and am down 28 pounds as of this morning. My goal weight is 155, but what I'm really looking forward to right now is going under 200 pounds- 12.5 pounds away.

just wait till those 12 lbs are away.. Youre gonna feel sooo good. Atleast I did when I hit the 199 mark. I was banded the Day before you I have lost 30 lbs and I go for my 4th fill on the first!

  7. Hi all, it's been a while since I posted on this thread.

I went back a couple of pages and it look like everyone is doing great.

I'm down 34 pounds since my surgery and going for fill #3 on Wednesday.

The NSVs are adding up. I can actually wrap a large towel around my waste and do that tuck thing. I flew coach last week without needing a seat belt extender.

I've been reading up on plastic surgery and figure I will be signing up for it by year's end.

At our support group last month they talked about body contortion and all of the actual possibilities of body contortioning surgery i.e. Tummy Tuck, lifts, or body tuck. and you have to watch out they want you to usually reach your goal and maintain that weight for 6 to 12 more months before they usually will approve the surgery. Most insurances they stated make u wait.

But on the up and up glad you are doing great. Im right up there with the weight loss since surgery.. I dont have a scale at home.. But my surgeon did my last fill and he was soooo proud of me and everything.

I go for fill #4 on july 1st and my next weigh in.

  8. Thats awesome for everybody. I am having a few non scale victories when putting on clothes that I havent worn in 2 years... Yay!!! I think you would say I have restriction, I can eat but when it comes to meats and such I have to really REALLY chew or it gets stuck.. Fish and stuff goes down fine but ugh chicken my FAVORITE is my newest enemy. I havent really been exercising.. I know bad me. But I just finished my evil friend of the month and during this time I dont like working out cause I just feel UGH. So tomorrow I will start up again and hit it hard core. Trying to be under 180 in 2 weeks for my next fill/weighin appointment! Love feeling decent in a bathing suit:thumbup:

  9. I swear by the Nuva ring, I have been on it since my son was born and hes 2. My huband and I dont take precautions (condoms) and I have not been pregnant. I love that it gives you a scheduled period, you always know when it is going to come. There are two options when using Nuva ring you can use it every three weeks and change it to get 4 periods a year or you can take it out for one week and put in a new one for three more weeks. Its unlike a tampon and you can not feel it when it is in and you put it in like a tampon. My husband cannot feel it during intercourse, although some say they can and I have never had it fall out on me. No sticky mess from the patch, ( my friend is on it and gained 20 lbs in a few months) You dont have to take a pill everyday ... The shot is TERRIBLEEEEEEEEE I gained 30 lbs with diet and exercise in the only 3 months I was on it. Plus it tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant. I enjoy having a steady period because it reassures me that I am not pregnant. I am only 23 being a young mother is interesting, and I just was stressed and not wanting to get pregnant again.

  10. Thats great, my three month bandaversary was the 2nd of June and I had a fill one the 3rd. I am up to 7cc's in a 10 cc band. I have been semi slacking but my surgeon praised my weightloss and said my port trouble is due to my fat loss in the port area. Which is good. I have reached a good amount of restriction, I really have to chew chew chew or else some stuff gets stuck. Down 30 lbs only 57 till goal or something.

  11. I was told after surgery that I had one and the surgeon repaired it. I did not have any symptoms but I apparently had one. I didnt know until in the recovery room that the surgeon repaired it. I aften thought it was a dream for awhile because it was when I first woke up so I didnt know if it was real or not .. but at my follow up appoint me 1 week post op I saw in the computer when they did my weigh in that a hiatal hernia was repaired. So I guess it was true.. Ask you doc about it.

  12. Well I havent had that big of a problem as you have, But I have had some slight issues with my port. My first fill n April was terrible the nurse couldnt located it right away it was about 20 minutes before she even got it. Then The next fill she knew what she was doing and got it only after 5 minutes. It was still difficult. THen she left the office so the last fill I had the surgeon actually did and I warned him that it is hard to locate and such and he was like oh thats not me its just the nurse watch this.. and to his surprise ... he couldnt get it.. it took him a while he said due to my fat loss around my port that it flips around and moves .. He said it was a good issue.

  13. My husband wanted to go the the buffet with his friend so I said we could go. I dont like going to buffets ever even before I have been banded. But I wasnt paying full price for something I wasnt going to eat.. The woman at the register was very rude ,.. she didnt understand what my card was for or what I was even asking. Some people can be sooooo ignorant.. Needless to say I havent eaten out and used the card since. But I dont eat out anyway.

  14. Hi everyone.....wow its been a while.

Ive been on vacation for the last two weeks on and off that is.

Weve been going out to Fire Island and even though there is internet connection...I dont feel like sitting in and getting stuck using computer instead of outside...at the beach or in town.

So far ive gotten two fills since surgery on March 9th. I have lost 45 lbs. and have been eating healthy. Ive got restriction...I think lol. Not hungry during the day.

Eating a Protein bar for breakfast, a piece of fish or chicken cutlet for lunch and then dinner is whatever lunch wasnt if im home....if out then ill have fish or some seafood something...mostly grilled something. lol

I have been keeping to the motto....less then 6g of sugar, and not more then 10-15% of daily recommended amts...on the labels. Have not eaten any "whites" as in bread, pastas etc.

Started eating some vegetables...broccoli, zuchini and salads.

I have been trying out new and different products that Ive never had before...canned Beans, chumus, pickels, qunoia, bulgur, millet..and a few other things like using sauces with no sugars....not worried about fat so much as sugar. Foods are going well....its the exercise that is a challenge to me!!

I hate hate hate to exercize....Have I made that clear?? Well, doing it anyways!! Twice with trainer and once alone now...im trying to do more but have a hard time getting to the damn gym. lol

well....things are just great!!! Down to a size 12 from 2x.

What a great feeling. I look and feel great. No more BP meds or Prevacid. Just the cholesterol and the pill that we need to take after surgery for six months so we dont get gall stones.

well.....I must be getting to sleep. Have a great night all.

Glad to see so many are doing so well!!

Keep up the good work fellow bandsters.

    Jodi

Jodi you are doing great!!!!! I am in juniors size clothing for the first time in 2 years, and Ill tell you what that seeing the close a little big on me that I had already bought is a great feeling as well!

I hate to excersize probably more so then a lot of people. I have been slacking this last week with it, I would have lost more if I did it but my port site has been bothering me so I am slacking on the excersize. I have been outside running around with my son and walking everywhere, so I am being active just not exercising in home. I will most likely do it today though and start up again I just needed that much needed break. I have been doing plenty sit ups and crunches.

On the upside I had my 3rd fill yesterday of 1 cc totalling 7 cc's in a 10cc band. My surgeon walked in the door and praised me completely. He told me I was one of his best patients I have constantly steadily lost weight since the surgery and I have not gained any.. I am down another 3 since surgery day 30 lbs since surgery and 39 since one week pre op. I am almost in the 170's my mini goal is to hit 150 which is going to be hard. My mother in law is doing weightwatchers and shes lost 30 lbs but with gains throughout the whole process and shes like yea we are tied, but shes been on weightwatchers since january I have only had the band since march 2nd! It was my 3 month bandaversary (sp??) on wednesday!!!! Having the actual surgeon praise me on my progress was amazing. The woman who went in before me gained 5 lbs and said he said nothing to her at all.

He also told me that I lost a significant amount of body fat and my belly is just all loose skin. He has trouble accessing my port because of this fat loss. Which is a great thing just now it hurts to get fills because the port moves a lot more cause theres nothing there really holding into place but the mesh pocket he put in there. This is why I have been having port trouble because it flips around. crazy band!!!!:Dancing_biggrin:

  15. I was Banded 3/2/10 and I did not experience this I have had steady weight loss, but I was trying to rush it the first month. You need to remember that the first month is all about recovering. you just had surgery and your body needs to recover and heal from that. This can lead to weight gain and loss. Also you need to take in enough Protein a day to continue with the weightloss. The more protein in a meal the less hungry you should feel in between meals.

  16. And it went very well/ My surgeon praised e today on my steady but slowish weight loss. I was Banded 3/2/10 and I am down 30 lbs since surgery. I am currently up to 7cc's in a 10cc band. We will see how this restriction results because I only feel slight restriction..

Has anyone gotten praise from their surgeon? I felt so good that he was proud of my weightloss so far and I have only been out 3 months as of yesterday.

My port is difficult to actually get, and my surgeon does it in his office, and not under fluro. He said the reason why it was so tricky was because I had lost a significant amount of body fat since surgery which in time can complicate the port.. But it is a good issue..

I am just so happy today that I feel like jumping up and down!:Dancing_biggrin:

  17. I have been on the Nuva ring for 2 years and I love it! I havent gotten pregnant in 2 years, this is without other forms of contraceptives. The odds are it is 99.9% effective on its worst day. Some drs recommend that you not be heavy when you are taking it but I was 209 at my heaviest, and i still didnt get pregnant. Unlike a tampon you cannot feel it once it is in, nor does my husband feel it during intercourse. I swear by it. 3 weeks in then you take it out for 1 week ( which you have your period during the off week) then put a new one in for another 3 weeks and the cycle justs keeps going. You have a scheduled period so you can work around the schedule!

  18. Hiya guys.. a question for my fellow march banders that already have a fill... Need to get in a workout tomorrow, no reason i couldnt go to the gym after my fill right?

You should be fine, after my first fill I had gotten stuck with the needle twice and the nurse was poking around because my port is on an angle and the needle needs go go in on a slant in order to get to the port. I was sore and bruised but I dont think there are any restrictions, except going to soft or mushies for a day or two before resuming regular bariatric diet.

  19. hiya guys!

I have my second post op Visit tomorrow (8 weeks from surgery) I am hoping he will say i can get a fill.. He doesnt do them in his office he does them at the hospital. So i would have to schedule a fill..

To date i have only lost like 18 lbs, but you know what I am still some 30 lbs from where i was when i started this journey and I refused to be mad about 18lbs..

You should never be mad at yourself for still losing weight. I have ionly lost 25 lbs since surgery but I look at it as that I am feeling better looking better then I did without the surgery. Like they say the first 4 weeks are for healing and some people gain in that 4 weeks. Just make sure youre getting out and going to support groups!

  20. Im from South Jersey, Mays Landing and I live right around the corner from Atlanticare Life Center where Dr. O's office is. I LOVE DR. O and his whole staff. I was banded 3/2 and I am doing great sadly their support group is only once a month, and I would like to get into something else. I will go there tonight but blah! No regrets and I recommend Dr. O for ANYONE who is in Sj and wants to get the band.

  21. I check in on occasion..... Ive been walking A LOT!!! This week I have hit like 16 miles or so, and I did six one day. But its Leslie Sansones walking bootcamp with intense intervals of jogging and strength training. Tonight is support group I missed it the last two months since surgery. This nice weather is als good, cause it motivates me to get out more. I am doing well sometimes I can still eat more or I feel that Im still hungry, but the dr said if you are smaller and dont have so much to lose the fills take longer before you reach restriction.

Lately I keep getting told that I didnt need the band, and that Im small now and dont have a reason for the band. How hard is it to get through to people and explain that 180 lbs isnt normal nor healthy on a 4'10" person? Im suppose to weigh about 100 lbs soaking wet.... 120 is still not anywhere near skinny on my little frame. But it is a healthy weight, and thats where I am trying to get down too.

My next fill is on the 3rd I already have 6cc's in a 10 cc band so they said this fill will probably be the sweet spot but not guarenteed. Kepp up the good work fellow march banders!

  22. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I havent checked in a few days. Ive been doing really well. Although I would like to see more progress and not just feel it!

I am at 20% to goal the Dr. said, and they usually like to see 40% in a year and I am half way to that in 2 months. I am down 24-25 lbs since surgery which is great. I started at 209 and I am down to 184. I am really trying its hard though. I know what I cant eat and I dont eat it. Sometimes I want too.

Lately I am really big on fruits mainly pineapple. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!! I have that pretty much everyday. I keep my calories at abou 800 to 1000 a day. I dont really watch and count. I just eat pretty much the same foods over and mix it up everyday.

I have uped my workout routine too. My hubby bought me Leslie Sansone's bootcamp dvd, which has brisk jogging intervals and strength training incorporated into the walk 3 miles. My muscles are killing me though!!!!!

So far I have had 2 fills, my first one was 4cc's and my second one was 2cc's and I am scheduled for another one on the 3rd of june.I have restriction on and off throughout the day, I think the next fill will top it off and hopefully be my sweetspot! Since my 2nd fill I have trouble eating some foods, like chicken it gets suck easily. And I find that I eat to fast sometimes and I get stuck I need to cut that out!

Well ladies keep up the great work:thumbup:
