  1. Yeah. Did you have an open procedure? I just had 5 incisions, pretty small, but the one on the left side is where they pulled my stomach out, so it's bigger than the one rest and hurts.

I broke my pinky toe one summer. Worst pain. Mostly because it would finally be "ok" and I'd stub It all over again. Worst summer. Haha. And yeah. I'm a side sleeper. sleeping on my back is terrible and I find I'll only sleep for maybe a couple hours in that position. It's hit or miss (mostly miss lately) on if I can at least sleep on my right side. Lately my sleep has been terrible. :(

And yes. I totally got a yeast Infection after surgery. Luckily it wasn't itchy... but I had to go through 2 rounds of the antibiotics they give for it. And I'm not a nurse yet. Someday! :) still in school for it:) but luckily I have have a few nurse friends and friends that are almost done with the nursing program at school.

No I had it laproscopic but he said that once he got past all the fat that I am a tiny girl on the inside and that's why he had to make such a large incision?? Me tiny girl was always told I was big boned??? Guess I was wrong??? OK good to know about the yeast infection cause I have one tried that monistat 1 and it hasn't helped? I have a doc Appt this week and I'll ask him about it!!!

  2. I'm sorry you're sick! At least you're getting in some fluids though. I just went back to popsicles, as I have a hard time getting my fluids in.

I didn't have any staples in my incisions. But at 5.5 weeks out my biggest incision on the left still hurts. I can't vend over very far, if I move in certain ways it feels like things are ripping apart, I have a hard time sleeping comfortably in bed. My surgeon has told me all of this is normal, and I could have pain there for up to 6 months. Uggggg. Its making it difficult to work out, as it hurts to even put socks on, let alone tie my running shoes! If only I could workout in flip flips.... Hahaha

My doc has said to take my pain meds if needed. I have the last couple nights at bed time. Hasn't helped a bunch, but does help a little. I'm actually thinking of asking my doc for a muscle relaxer. Cause I need to workout, and if I can barely bend over, its not going to be very effective. I feel like the "ripping" feeling is from the muscles being too tight. We'll see.

Your main incision is on the left side??? Mine is right down the middle and itls like 3 inches long and it hurts and the staples hurt!!! I can only sleep on my back without pain and I have always been a stomach sleeper??? Then my hubby broke his toe yesterday and we had to go to the hospital cause he is such a baby but he got vicodin for the pain and I took one last night, best sleep I got in a long time!!! I have a question after having all those meds pumped into me is it possible to get a yeast infection from that as I've never had one but it felt like I did so I used that med for it but it hasn't gone away? Seeing your a nurse????

  3. Definitely. I also think it had a lot to do with what we ate. Because I started feeling cooler while on my 2 week pre op diet.

But especially those first couple weeks after surgery, or bodies are all sorts of confused. I'm sure the flashes will stop soon. I hope they do for you! I'm actually happy I'm cold all the time. Maybe I can save on my electric bill this summer for once!

Yeah I think that's true but I have been so sick all I can eat is the popcicles??? I feel awful my staples hurt and I have talked to my doc and he says its all normal???

  4. I used to be HOT ALL the time before surgery. I hated it. I'm a CNA, and nursing student, and it's really embarrassing when you're the only one always sweating. So I guess I'm happy that I'm always cold now. Yeah, sometimes I'm like hot sh!t I'm so c old my feet and hands are going to be icicles, but for now, I'm loving it. Besides doing some kind of workout I haven't broken a sweat since maybe a week out two after surgery, and I couldn't be happier. I used to sweat just getting ready in the morning. Gross!

Sarahjane being hot could have been from all that extra fat you had on your body that made you sweat like that? I know I am the exact same way but I wasn't always hot? But I've been having hot & cold flashes?

  5. Yup. While I was still on pain meds I would get hot flashes. I think it's just the anesthesia and pain meds in our system still, cause I'm freezing alllllllll the time now!

OK but I'm a week and a half post op, been off pain meds for a week now and still feel this way? Last night I literally slept with 2 pairs of sweat pants, 2 pairs of Sox, 3 shirts on of which was a hoodie, and I almost got up to get a pair of mittens and then I had my blanket curled all around me tight??? Idk what is going on??? Its very true this is definitely not the easy way out this has been the most difficult thing I've done ever so far!!!!

  6. So I am a week out and I came down with this wicked fever and so I'm sitting here feeling ucky, and normally I would be able to have my comfort foods when I feel this way but I can't and I'm craving something to and it's all mind craving cause I'm not hungry??? I am just staying away from the kitchen for the most part!!! I am so not going to eat something that will make me sick!!! I cant wait till i can start working out, when I get those cravings ill just work out to work those cravings away!!!

  7. You know I figured an egg wouldn't hurt it's small enough, and I chewed it and chewed it? I didn't have any problems with it??? my post op appt is next week thursday and I am hoping they take them out then cause I do not want them in anymore!!! As for me going back to work, I wasn't in any real dire pain on sunday so I figured I would be ok, and that was the only time I took for it, thinking I would be ok, I kinda wish I took this week off but then I don't get to take that much time off this summer? I am looking forward to summer??? Well Thanks

  8. So here I am this time last week I was in surgery. I got through my first week and I am so happy. I have lost 5 lbs, and I am proud of my 5 pounds, cause I really didn't think I would lose anything. I am however very sore still. My surgeon had made an incision approx. 3" in the front middle of my stomach and won't know till next week why? I thought it was supposed to be all small incisions. So anyway he used staples to close it up and they are so sore, and even in some places it looks like the staples are pulling at the skin? I have gone back to work and i sit at a desk all day so then when ever I move forward to pull into my desk my desk height and incision height is right at the same point so it rubs and yesterday I started bleeding so today I am working on staying back from my desk and pulling my keyboard forward. Also I tried a scrambled egg last night and yum that was good. I am slowly progressing. Did anyone else have the same issue with their incision and having the staples? I can't wait till it heals.

  9. This may sound strange, but I had my rny less than 2 weeks ago, March 13. I lost about 15 pounds from the day before surgery until the end of the week on full liquids. I'm on puréed food now and haven't lost anymore weight. I still feel hungry and offer. And not like head hunger- my stomach actually growls! I have no nausea with anything and I rarely feel full. I'm worried my pouch is too big and I'm never going to lose weight. Am I alone, because I see so much success and so many people saying they are never hungry for months. Ahhhh! I'm hungry! I am following my diet perfectly as well, though it's tempting at times to eat more. I get plenty of Protein. What's wrong with me!?!?

Hey remoisson, don't stress you are only a few weeks out you might still be swollen and your body might just be adjusting to this new thing your doing to it!! Everyone loses differently, how often are you eating? What are you puréeing? It wouldn't hurt to add in a shake in replace of a meal? I know you've just spent so much time on the shakes but I will drink them forever if I could??? Lol also remember don't stress it, stress just make you gain weight??? I am in my mind it will happen as long as I follow the steps!!! You can do this, just have faith in yourself and talk to your doc ask him/her what they think is going on why your so hungry?? Also don't forget your never alone here on this site you always have someone that is willing to give you some kind of advice!!! Good luck!!!

  10. I didn't get a chance to read all the replies yet but I can tell the OP that you are not alone. Losing weight is easy..keeping it off now that's hard.

My story is simple and I've told it here many times so I apologize to those reading it for the umteenth time.

In 2003 I was 393lbs and I was at an all time low mentally and physically. A couple of friends from work bought me an Atkins book and begged me to read it. I agreed and the 3 of us set off on our journey supporting one another. We all lost weight. In 19 months I went from 393 to 220 just low carbing. I felt great and I was on top of the world. Then suddenly out of nowhere it seemed I let my guard down and I gained all my weight back plus another 90+lbs.

In just over 10 years time I went from 393 to 220 back up to 488!! Today, I was 207.

I am very much afraid of history repeating itself regardless of the tool and new lifestyle change. I spent a lot of energy angry and hating myself for what I did. It took me a very long time to make peace with it. On the flip side I have become obsessed about losing weight and what is sad is I am not satisfied with where I am at. I am proud of what I've accomplished but not satisfied if that makes sense. Sometimes my attitude plain sucks and I say big deal I am 12lbs lighter then I was in 2003 and look what I had to go through to get here. Still beats the alternative though.

You will hear mixed opinions in regards to weighing in daily. I am a 'pro weigh in daily' advocate. Lifestyle change/tool does not matter unless you know exactly where you are on the scale. I can weigh myself and be up 2 pounds one day or I can wait a whole week to weigh in and find out I am up 5. 2 comes off quicker than 5 and that scale keeps me accountable. It is a tool just like my band.

I wish you the best and hope you hit that goal and maintain it.

Wow Jim I didn't look at the scale weighing in thing like that but that's a great idea!!! Thanks, and I wish you luck on getting your happiness where you want it!!!!

  11. I Know!! Ty One more night....15 ish hrs..omgosh...so excited...... awww straws ...ty i will pack some!!

No, no straws they can add to the gas issue you will have after surgery!!! Besides after surgery you will only want ice chips!!! It helps with the chewing wanted and the dry mouth you will get!!! I wish I could still get ice like they have in the hospital!!! I love the ice chips!!!

  12. don't apologize, it's good to ask because someone else might have the same questions as you just don't ask or forget and then they see your post and they are glad to see what responses there are. I love greek yogurt, by chobani, I'm not fond of some of the flavors but I love the pineapple one and the strawberry banana. I also found Oikos Greek the traditional kind is really good, there isn't the fruit on the bottom that you stir in it's just all the same, they have a Toasted Coconut vanilla, that is OMG so yummy. As for coffee, I am 5 days post op and I just tried coffee for the first time this morning cause I love coffee, and it did not sit well, but I got a mocha coffee from dunkin and I think there is too much sugar in the mocha? I started feeling sick so I threw it away :( I like my whey Protein I get it at Walmart and I make mine with milk and it tastes so much better. I had gotten a chocolate w/peanut butter kind and didn't like that one so much, so I am just using the plain chocolate one, and hopefully that will be ok, I have never tried the muscle milk but a girl I work with she uses that sometimes and she likes it, so I don't know, I have plenty of time to test things now that my surgery is done and i can try out new remedies? Well good luck!!!

  13. Pupichupi how are you feeling?? I'm home and other then some pain I'm doing well. Just curious to know how things are!! I hope good!

Jess I'm ok, sore as well and tired!!! I sleep a lot right now but I think its from the pain meds they make me very sleepy!!! I am otherwise doing good!!! How are you feeling??? Are you getting enough in?

  14. Thank you for the advice!! I invited my brother to the orientation that I'm required to go to at Pacific bariatric, that is where Kaiser outsources their bariatric surgery. I'm hoping the information coming from someone else will be helpful for him to understand and possibly accept. Thank you so much for the suggestion, I would've never thought to invite him. The seminar is on April 2nd and he said he would do his best to be there.

Kendra that's fantastic!!! I am so happy for you!!! I hope he comes around for your sake cause its important to have those your close to to support you!!!

  15. Yvonne, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting this, I am actually having surgery tomorrow and I am super excited, but I was struggling these past few days with the issue of will I ever be able to or even want to eat the foods I love now while I am heavy, and I have decided to follow the 6 steps rule, and I definitely am going to follow step one. I don't want to be trapped like I am now, and I want to be able to get to where I have always wanted to be HEALTHY. So thanks again, I am going to copy and paste these steps to a word document and print out a bunch and post them everywhere I can see it when I grab for foods and remember what you said!!! I am going to start my new life off right.

First I want to congratulate you about surgery!!! How wonderful. I also want to thank you for your kind words and encourage you to use the list as a guide. Your journey is a learning experience and no matter how much you know going in....some of those old habits may take a little practice. IF you do end up breaking rule #1 I want you to never feel shame or beat yourself up because we cannot change the past. All we have is right now and that's the only thing you can change. I will repeat again that it is easier to not do something 100% instead of 99%. In case you missed the great article that was posted in these comments by another member (Isereno), make sure and read this article too. I thought it was wonderful! http://www.gretchenrubin.com/happiness_project/2013/01/want-to-be-free-from-french-fries-or-why-abstaining-may-be-easier-than-you-think/

    Be free pupichupi!!

Thanks Yvonne, I will check that out!!!

  16. I have been telling people on a need to know basis, and a few that I knew would understand. But I didn't want my brother (whom I am very close to) to be the last to know. I am still 6-8 months out as I have Kaiser and have to complete 24 weeks of classes. But an opportunity presented it's self so I went for it.......It was just as bad as I had feared :( he told me he doesn't think I have tried hard enough to lose it naturally and I should just try a detox diet that and him and his GF are doing......yeah. I just cried and told him I'm not telling anyone else because of the judgment. It's hard to feel like I don't have my big brother in my corner on my side.....I'm pretty devastated.

Kendra, I am so sorry for how your brother responded to you. I know how you feel unfortunately, I have a big brother and little sister, and My brother and I really have been on the outs for a very long time in fact we haven't really talked to each other (not that I haven't tried) in over 12 years he doesn't approve of my lifestyle, not that I live any crazy way. I am involved in a mixed racial relationship with a puerto rican, and he doesn't approve. I had children with a puerto rican and he doesn't approve, and my kids he will talk to and play with but he won't speak to me and we live approx. 15 min. from each other. I know this has nothing to do with the way your brother treated for what your doing, but in life we have to do what is right and good for us, we can't live to please everyone else. We were born with our own body, brain and life, to live it without concern of others who are in our lives. I know it's hard cause he is your big brother, and trust me I think about my brother daily, but I can't control the way he thinks about me no more than you can control your brother. I love my brother and always will, but I am not going to let his negativity bring me down. I will continue to live my life the way I want. As for the Detox, what works for some doesn't work for everyone. If he doesn't understand maybe ask him to go to one of your doctors appointments and show him what it's all about. Maybe he will change his mind. He might just be worried??? Well Good Luck!!!

  17. JMCP, I am having my surgery tomorrow, and this weekend I was thinking the same thing, but I have someone I work with that had it done, and she eats things I never knew you could after this surgery, but you just have to push past these feelings and remember what your doing it for. I need this now more than ever cause I have tried so many things to lose the weight and nothing worked for me, and this is my last option. Believe in yourself and remember that Coconut cream pie is what got you where you are now, do you really want to stay where you are now? Good Luck

  18. I feel this way all the time, cause of all the times I tried to lose weight and it failed, I am just starting my journey, and I read a post from someone on here called super dieters. If you find it you should read it. After reading that I have decided that I am not going to allow myself to cheat or have bad food. Now I can say that now, and after a year or whatever it takes to get to where I want to be I could change my mind, but i think that as long as I put forth the effort to stay away from the junk I used to eat, I should be ok. I am going to stock my fridge with fresh fruit and cut up vegetables and always have some with me so that I can try to stay healthy, cause as you say your not being here for your 15 month old is incentive enough for you, I also have 2 kids a 9 and 12 year old that depend only on me. I have to be here for them, and they are my world and I will do whatever it takes to be here and show them the right way to live. So good luck in your journey, and I hope the best for you!!!

  20. I'm pretty new to this but aren't we supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior?

And then the just clear liquids?

Lorraine, Yes you are supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior and then just clear liquids for a little bit after, and I have been on my liquid diet for 2 weeks already, tomorrow is my surgery, I have been doing liquids only since the 5th, but you have to remember not all doctors ask for you to do 2 weeks of a liquid diet some ask for more some ask for less it all depends on your doctor and where you live. So just depends. But good luck, being new is a good thing, just make sure you talk to your doctor, and get all your answers. Don't leave anything on the table. I found that is the best thing, and if you have questions that you don't think you necessarily have to ask your doctor, ask people here, they are more than willing to help and answer whatever it is you have questions to.
