Hi Monica, Today..was great....I actually had some time to myself which rarely happens. My sister and brother in law who was in the states for vacation came to take my daughter out for the day! Spent the day..just shopping at the mall as it was sooo cold in NY. lol Hope you had a great day as well. I was told you can get the book on Amazon.com. I tried three Barnes and Nobles and finially had to have it put on hold at one and then transfered to another in order to pick it up! All sold out...it is a goody. Anyways...good luck finding it. Let me know when you do and if you get it and if you like it and find it helpful Have a great week Jodi

Hi, "Becks Solution" is a book about changing the way we think about eating and food. The premise behind it is..its all about our brain not our stomach or mouth or food. Its our brain and how we have been trained to think about food and eating a certain way. In order to loose weight we need to retrain our brain.. Food for thought! Let me know if you get it and what you think of it! Jodi

Julie, When my daughter started preschool. I sent her to a Montessori school. They fired her lol. At least thats how my daughter puts it now. They like above....said she doesnt belong here and so it went from one school to another up until we found the right school..the one we wanted.....in the private sector..with the dual program. Half day english half day hebrew that "everyone" said she would never succeed in..guess what?? she is at the top of her class now...and she is still in the dual prgram...Hebrew/English. We didnt take her out and put her in Public School..no...we found a school that fit her needs...in the Private school dual program. She succeeded and still does.... Dont let anyone convince you to take a child out of the "philosophy" religion" or reg environment unless you want to....and think it is the last solution to the problem. No one should ever tell you to change....its them as you said above who has to change their teaching way to fit with yours in the most apropriate way possible! The state knows jack .....about education and the importance of culture, religion and education. In my humble educators/child/family advocates opinion. Ill try to explain.....so sit back and relax.....the dyslexic will try! Hmmm. Im thinking...if you all dont know what shabbos is and about shabbos.....then I cant feel guilty about blowing it off can I?? Of course Indigo girl....youl have to pretend you dont know what it is then...lol hmm not going to work ...I still feel guilty. Okay.....here it is shabbat 101, Indigo is correct....Shabbos is the yiddish for shabbat. It starts from Friday Sundown to Sat Sundown. 25 hours. True you cannot do certain things...like cook, clean, work, and a host of other things that involve electrcity and mechanics. On the other hand you can do many things.. like learn, read, eat, spend time with family and my motto is to "just relax..dont do it" Here is what I learned about what shabbat is from some very special woman in Crown Heights...Brooklyn. I liked this very much so...Ive taken this explanation and made it mine. Shabbat is a time to sit back and reflect on the creation of the world. Not doing anything to alter it at all.....It is a time to sit back and see all the things that are happening around us without us manipulating those things in order to make them do things, or change them in any way....just watch those things...and realize and see how much goes on around us without us interfering...seeing.... we are not in control. We all worke all week to create, to make, to manipulate to change the world to be what we want it to be to become...but on shabbat we stop and sit back and realize that it isnt us that controls, creates and manipulates there is a higher being and he/she is in control not us and even if we think that we are doing everything....we need to be reminded that we arent the ones who created the world and the nature and the bounty the world has given. Shabbat in a nut shell....beutiful and serene and so relaxing. but living in the five towns of Long Island where there are so many afluent observant families sometimes I have to remind myself of the beuty of shabbat/shabbos. Shabbos like anything else in a world of plenty has become about keeping up with the jones.... Who has the most guests? WHo spends the most money on food, Who wears the most expensive clothes, Who makes the best traditional food, Who prays the loudest the longest the most passionate, Who goes to the best synaguages, whose kids have play dates with whose kids and....who was invited to whose for what? yes, even on shabbat...this happens to the best of people sometimes...not always....and not everywhere...here but alot. So, why do I need a break?? because....I live here, my daughter goes to school here,..she has lots of friends and I have lots of support. so....yes, I do get caught up in the hoopla and I need a breather to regroup at times. so....im not proud but im not ashamed to say I need a break from all this....sometimes so I can come back the following week and do it the right way....the way it was meant to be. now ive explained what shabbat is in a nut shell and why I need a break....its complicated? I hope this helps. Now you can all call me a hypocrite and understand why! lol Im glad you asked.....felt stupid thinking everyone knew ......because why?? Im a NYker and we are all thinking that after all everyone should know what I know after all! lol NYkers. lol I hope you all are having a blast of a weekend!! Next year Im coming along with you all!! Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Hi to all the new March Bandsters that Ive not yet welcomed over the last week!!! Welcome to Natrlblonde, Fern, Laurel, Jacquie, Suzyqindy, JVw2009, Bob, and JC1. I hope I did not miss anyone!! Its nice to see so many new March Bandsters. I havent been able to post for about a week so Ive missed alot of posts and have spent the last 1/2 hour reading though the site..wow! Sometimes I get so tired reading through all the great information, experiences and ideas that people have shared that I dont have time to respond at the end after catching up. Ive finially gotten all my consult letters in to my surgeons office and I have my second consult this wednesday and I meet with my pumonologist regarding my new CPAP machine which im getting used to. Its been two weeks so far...and im not sure I feel any different yet. Im not sure what im supposed to feel. The only difference so far is that im not waking the dog any longer hence she is not waking me. lol I am trying to eat healthier now...and begin to walk, walk, walk. I am reading "Becks Solution" which was recommended by alot of Bandsters on this site and am finding it informative, helpful and and easy to follow. You might want to check it out.... How is everyone? I hope all is well and all the tests and consults are winding down now. To whom ever is going to begin their pre-surgery diets within the next few weeks I wish them good luck!! Have a great week.. Jodi

Hi.. im in NY as well!! I was orriginally going to have my surgery at NYU as well! As my insurance changed I needed to find a new surgeon so I switched to LI Bariatric Center in Manhasset with Dr. Holover/Dr. Garber. My surgeon is Dr, Holover. I work in Brooklyn, near Methodist hospital. About 10 minuets away and live in LI. Where are you? Its funny before you said anything about NY....I was thinking after reading about all the consults and tests.....she must also live in NY. lol I had to do all those tests as well. Other states dont recquire them all. I think we all fear the surgery to some extent..my worst fear? Thinking about flying and having the tube blow up because of the pressure and just pop out of my stomach like on alien. lol I know this isnt really possible but....still its so foreign. What you and us all need to concentrate on is the thought that this is the means to the end.....not the end! Its just the begining for all of us. Looking forward to journeying with you!! Welcome! Jodi
  7. Hi Christie How are you??? Hows things going? Im so glad you are feeling good and can take new oppurtunities that you wouldnt have had before. Sounds like you had lots of fun! There will be more and more days where you will feel like the surgery was worth it....for sure this is just the beginning for you!

We havent had snow like that in NY in ages. The CPAP is going okay. I dont feel any different yet I dont think. Its been two weeks so far and all I know is that im not waking up the dog any more lol. It has become more comfortable I suppose. Have my second consult this week and the date is set for March 15th. Only a month more.

Keep me updated on whats what with you! Hope all is going well and its been ten pounds by now.

    I'm here to help...

Im not sure whether the CPAP is helping either yet....we shall see. so many tests!! I suppose we all have to do what the doctors want so we are in good health or at least we know what kind of health we are in before surgery and treat any underlying concerns! Ill be done soon enough! Then Ill begin to worry about a whole new different set of concerns!! lol Well...you are an inspiration after reading the above...and you are doing so great now....I hope you dont mind that you are all my muses at this time!! Thanks for sharing...it helps to know Im not alone with all this "stuff" Hi. Julie....Im glad to hear you are going to the specialist to check everything out. My daughter was pigeon toed and alot of children are.....sometimes the doctors will want to intervene and others dont. My pediatric orthopedic didnt want to intervene...now I look back and think....perhaps he should have as her PT and OT did recommend it....Ten years later....she still is low tone...her feet are always bothering her and she cant run or do extrenuos activities without complaining...Now we are going to another Ortho to check things again.... I was wondering....when you refered to the nursing concerns.,..did you mean speech pathologist? Oral Motor therapist or Feeding therapist? You had said a PT was recommended. I wonder how this helped....the disciplines in NY are so defined as to what they are "responsible for" it would be nice to hear that the therapists of diff disciplines cross disciplines for treatment purposes. No matter really...the important thing is that you are getting the help...for Mimi she needs. Is there Early Intervention Services where you are?? It would be great to get a comprehensive evaluation to assess her strenghts and weeknesses....You had said there were possible concerns regarding speech/language and developement. Why not get it all checked out....Im not sure about where you are however, in NY it is free. Then get therapy where needed. I always find its best to start early rather then later....and the kids have so much fun with therapists they do really enjoy it and they are getting help at the same time....I know you said,..you were comparing and it seemed maybe, maybe not.....Why question it? As I see...it the more people to play with my at the same time as treating why the heck not! lol Think about it..... I can probably help with setting things up if I knew where and what but I dont so Im sorry I cant help there. I can however.... give you and your daughter support and if youd like...I can try and answer concerns you both may have and recommend some ideas.....If you have any questions about reports and so on...id be happy to read them all and let you know what I think she should get as far as treatment and give you some advocate advice about how to get it all..... If youd like you can have your daughter e-mail me and we can talk that way as well.....otherwise....Im here anytime! wew...that was a biggy now gots to run!!!! Have a great day! kisses and hugs to Mimi! Jodi

Hi all...So much to read for the past weekend...thought I would have plenty of time yesturday to post however....turns out no connection where I was all day. It has been such a crazy week for me....I got my CPAP machine last wednesday and it seems that I am so nurvous that Im not using it correctly that I keep waking up every so often to see that the mask is on right. I hope by the end of this week things will get better because I could really use some sleep. lol I found out that my clearance letter from the endocronologist had faxed a letter to my surgeon without sending me one...so ive been hounding him to send one and he allready had....on the other hand I thought the psychologist sent his letter and he didnt....when all this is over the hardest thing about it better be this process of getting all these consults. l Wednesday I finish the two week Prev Pac...ive been sick to my stomach from not just one antibiotic but two. This Hpylol bug best be dead by the time the treatment is over....wednesday...or I will just scream. I thought I was finished with all the tests and consults and I found out that I might need a echocardiagram and stress test because im older then 40...but my cardiologist didnt think it was necessarary...I think ill let him and the surgeon figure it out and just let me know what to do when they do that! Going to a support group this Thursday...patient education group....before hand, that should be interesting. After this all......and not sleeping.....im tired!! so im going to sleep...I hope all is well with everyone and things go smoothly with all consults, insurance glitches and tests for everyone. have a great week..... Jewel, I feel for you!! You have a big decission to make and I think that all the responses have really given food for thought...I hope you take everything and weigh things and do whats best for everyone.....good luck. so shouting out!!! I sorry that I havent posted....but after the weeks school vacation and all the above.....well I just was running around like a chicken without a head..... well...have a great week all. Jodi

Yea you! Glad to hear that your pretty much on the way! As for as the nurtritionist and psychologist they were also really busy and booked for about a month when wanted to see them at the center..so needed to find someone and theirs did not take insurance anyways... so, I just picked one from the list of providers on my insurance plan which is oxford and started calling the numbers closest to where I lived...and asked "do you do consults for the lap band who had the next apt available closest. lol Turns out I liked the one I picked and am now seeing her on a reg basis. I did this for the psych eval as well...as far as the other consults that involve med tests etc I went to whom my surgeon recommended. food for thought. Glad you joined...... Jodi

lol. no...its very late!! However, I cant seem to get to sleep..knowing that I dont have to wake up at 6:30 to get Dassi ready for school....I dont start work till 11:00 on Tuesdays so I can sleep!! yea.....but should head off as I will be indeed dead tired tomorrow regardless! lol yes, chronic ear infections "can be" and thats only what I mean..."can be" not necessarly "will be"...indications of other concerns....like hearing loss. Chiropractors have great success regarding inner ear issues. Have a great night! or morning....lol

Hi all...wow....it took me about a half hour...of time to read through all the posts since I last checked. I have come to realize that I really enjoy hearing about everyones goings on...one because im nosy and love to hear about peoples goings on....a busy body of sorts!! sorry. ... the other reason is ..... well, I spend my day with one little special guy who doesnt talk to me...but responds with eye gazing, body gestures and vocalizations and the only other adult in the house for the 3-5 hours that im there is the nurse who when Im there....kind of takes this time..to relax...as she should she works 8-12 hour shifts with him. So I have no other adults to talk to, other then the occasional therapist that will stop by when im there. After work I go home to be with my daughter...and do the mommy thing alone...so I dont have much time to chat and socialize. soo you see....this thread not only supports me but helps me see......that wow..there are real people out there with real lives!! (very) that I responds to me and I can ....respond to and communicate with....adults not babies and not 10 year olds! Thank you....so thank you for allowing me...into your lives to recieve and give support reciprocally!! well....enough of that and on to todays little tidbits as I call it. My daughter bless her baked her first homemade cake um twice. I gave her all the ingredients she needed and laid it all out and went to work. On the phone I walked her though the recipe and had the babysitter supervise and make sure she was doing everything right and they were! It was me...I gave her a container of what I thought was flour but was actually confectioners sugar. oops. The babysitter obviously hasnt done to much baking....as she didnt notice anything weird or a little strange when the batter looked more like frosting as opposed to cake. My daughter phoned me three times.....while it was cooking after 1/2 hour saying it wasnt looking like cake...I said let it cook some more.....after 40 min...I asked the babysitter what it looks like and she said...it looks like a molten lava of chocolate. hmmmm I said...take it out and dont eat it...Ill be home soon. When returning....I looked and said....you put in flour?? They said yes....hmm then I looked at the container of so called flour I gave them...and opps...not flour! Now, I understand the need to label containers when there are going to be others cooking in my kitchen!! This should have been a sign that we shouldnt be making cake with sugar and flour...however, its a Holiday this weekend so we are having guests... needless to say we will be doing a do over tomorrow and Ill be here. lol well....have a good night all. Tomorrow I need to phone the pulmonologist to see whether the CPAP came in so I can start my six weeks with it to get clearance for surgery. I need to phone the Endocronologist to see about the lab reports and make sure all is good.....and get that letter of clearance, and to phone the psychologist because as of yet his report that he said he would mail....didnt come..suprise, suprise. (not) I seem to be spending more time chasing people to get those reports/clearance letters in. I hope this is the hardest part of this whole process!! My second consult is on Feb. 3rd. and Im supposed to have everything in before..otherwise they might push back surgery....once again. welll. Have a great night all and a great week

Hi, I read that you needed to take Mimi to the ENT and podiatrist. I work with babies 0-3 an independant contractor for Early Intervervention. Many of the babies and young children see ENT;s for several concerns. Most often for two reasons..chronic ear infections resulting in fluid in the ear drums and concerns regarding speech and language. If this is the case....and you didnt elaborate above,,,,Ive have had really good results with Chiropractors for adjusting the ear drum so the fluid can run out as opposed to tubes that ENTs will recommend for this. After several visits the ear drums are dry and hearing is restored....most of the time nothing is full proof and every child is different. I would be happy to chat with you...answer some concerns or questions, treatments or recommendations that I have heard from various professionas and therapists if youd like on thread or in private message.... I dont want to sound pushy but yove so far have been so supportive of me.....that I would gladly take this oppurtunity if this is something I can help you with ....if not....thats okay..too..but since you noted that you were going to one...I thought it was okay to offer and give you some recommendation. the only other thing I would recommend is to have a pediatric orthopedist to consult as well....and get more then one opinion....look at me...the perpetual special educator!! Hope all will be good. Jodi
