    Port placement?

Mine hurts real bad when I bend over, and I can tell it's there. I'm only one week in so I guess it will get better.

    Port placement?

I have the realize band as well, and I think mine is under my breast too. I have a 2-inch incision under my breast, and it hurts like heck when I bend over so I guess that is where it is. I thought it was a problem b/c I thought it was suppose to be near the belly button, but I guess it differs.

    Last Supper Syndrome?!?!

Can we eat bread? What about biscuits or stuff like that? I thought I read where it didn't go down well. I know my dietitian said I couldn't eat Subway unless I got the wrap. I'm a picky eater so I feel I'm going to get tired of eating the same meals all the time. Oh well, it is worth it.
  4. I only have to have a clear liquid diet one day prior to my surgery. Is strained chicken noodle soup (just the broth) okay on this? What else is good to eat on this diet? I know the usually tea, water, popsicles, jello, etc.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I just got my surgery date today. It is for Feb. 8. I only have to do a clear liquid diet on Sunday before so it won't be that bad.

    Caffeine????

I have been going off diet coke, and the headaches are horrible. I decided to just try to give up caffeine b/c they are really bad for 2 weeks now. I wake up with one and tylenol doesn't help.
  7. I love diet coke, and this was one of my biggest concerns going in to the surgery. I know that I'm not suppose to drink it after I have the surgery, but I drink like 6 cans of this stuff a day. Is it hard to quit drinking diet coke? I tried to quit drinking it a few years ago, but after a week of very bad headaches I gave up. I know it's the caffeine, but I've been drinking diet coke for as long as I can remember. I don't really like Splenda tea, but I guess I will have to get use to it.
  8. My doctor does not require a pre-op diet (thank the good Lord in Heaven). Are the unjury shakes good? What flavor is the best and did anyone try the chicken Soup one?

    This has me scared....

I hear there is a bigger chance of dying having the bypass than the band, but both have risks as does any surgery.

    This has me scared....

The people I know (my brother included) that had gastric bypass has gained weight with it. I think it depends on the person, and if that person is really committed to changing their life. My brother had a horrible first year after his bypass surgery, and it is true that you loss about all the weight in a year's time. I would rather lose it slow so that is why I am choosing the band. Sorry but I just don't want my stomach cut and bypassed.
  11. Okay. I been at this for amost two weeks. I drink one can diet coke at breakfast and one with supper. Everything else is water. I am having the biggest headaches. Today was horrible. My headache made my stomach hurt. I drank a diet coke with supper tonight, and my headache went away. I think I am just going to have to give up caffeine in any form b/c I feel like these headaches will not get better. I didn't think these withdrawals took so long to get over.
  12. My regular doctor just called me today, and said I have Vitamin D deficiency as well as high Protein levels in my blood work. Is this going to be problem where my weight loss doctor will not do the surgery on me? Or are these things easily corrected even with the band? I also have a question that doesn't have to do with blood work. What does everyone eat for lunch at work? I know now I usually go get something, but I know I will stop that once I have the surgery.
  13. Luckily my doctor doesn't do the pre-op liquid diet.
  14. I am new to the site, so hello to all. I went to see the program coordinator this past Wednesday. It went well and lasted about an hour. The nurse told me I had to do all these tests and blood work before I could have the surgery. Amazingly, I got all blood work and tests done the very same day. Luckily I hadn't eaten that morning b/c one of the test had to be fasting. The dietitian was also free for that same day, so that was great. I go see my primary care doctor this coming Monday to get checked out and get her to sign something saying I can have surgery. I go see the weight loss doctor Jan. 25. so I think I will be able to have the surgery early Feb. (I hope). How soon after you first see your doctor does he/she schedule surgery? A week or two?
  15. Since I am self-pay, I guess the process will go faster? I see the doctor on Jan. 25 and hope to have surgery 1-2 weeks after that. I have already had all my tests done, and my doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet!

    Pre-Op Diet????

I don't have to do a pre-op diet. I just have to start getting used to eating less and more healthy and not drinking soft drinks. My doctor doesn't require the 14 day pre-op liquid diet, thank goodness.

    Hello from Alabama

I am self-pay so I figure it will go faster since we don't have go to through all those loop holes. Thank you for your response.

    Pre-op diet -- not losing!

I was worried about having to do the pre-op liquid diet, and I talked with the dietitian about it. She told me that it wasn't necessary to do it. I'm sure it probably helps, but that is what she told me so I was relieved.
