  1. I too bought some from costco and wasn't happy with them...They didn't do much...You may want to be careful when using them with the band..even though you haven't had a fill you do still have a lil restriction in your stomach whether you can feel it or not...I didn't realize i had any restriction in my stomach before i got any fills and i had a situation with chicken so just use caution....I did find a fake full bar recipe if anyone is interested....

    "Fake Full Bar" Recipe

    Ingredients:

    1/4 cup coconut oil

3/4 cup brown rice Syrup or agave syrup (from the health food store)

    3/4 cup honey

    1 teaspoon cocoa (optional)

    1 teaspoon vanilla

8 cups puffed wheat Cereal (from the health food store)

    Directions:

Measure your cereal into a large bowl. The bowl needs to be big enough so you can easily mix the syrup into the cereal.

Melt the coconut oil in a large saucepan. The syrup will bubble up a lot, so use a pan that has plenty of room.

Add the brown rice syrup and honey, (and cocoa if you're using it), bring to a boil, and boil for 3 minutes.

Remove from heat. Add vanilla and pour syrup over puffed wheat cereal.

Mix well. Press into a greased 9X12 inch cake pan.

Press down on the mixture so it will all stick together. Cover with plastic wrap and cool completely.

Cut into 24 squares. Each square will have approximately 147 calories.

For variety, you can add up to 1 cup of any of the following in place of an equal amount of cereal. Most of these changes will increase the number of calories:

    Raisins or currants

    Dried cranberries and walnuts

    Shredded coconut

    Chopped dates

    Sunflower seeds

Chopped apples and walnuts or pecans

    Chopped peanuts or Peanut Butter

  2. I wouldn't worry about gaining weight at this point...You are in your healing stage..I actually gained 6lbs between my 1 week checkup and my 6 week checkup..I didn't like it AT ALL but i got a pretty aggressive fill and lost 5 of the 6lbs in less than a week..then i got another fill a week after my first because i didn't have enough restriction and i actually lost another 5lbs since that fill..so things will happen for you just take this time to heal and enjoy life!!! Also watch your calories because 600 calories is not very much and your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to everything...You might want to bump up your calories a bit if not now i would definitely bump them up after you start getting fills...Its weird we have to cut calories to lose weight but still make sure we are eating enough calories to lose weight as well...lol

Hope this helps...I'm here if you have any questions..

  3. I want to say that some things have came to my attention and i want to retract some of the things i have said in my earlier comment..I still agree that sometimes we are impatient and losing weight is a journey not an overnight sensation but I was under the impression that the thread starter (Curefortheend) was being rude to btrieger which apparently is not the first time these to have gone rounds with each other..So i am SORRY if i upset anyone and i have already made a formal apology to Curefortheend..If i would have know some of the facts that i know now i would never have said ANYTHING..I am a firm believer in people sticking up for them selves but i am an even stronger believer in people such as myself admitting when they are in the wrong...Again I AM SORRY if i offended anyone!!!

I agree with btrieger Sometimes we are IMPATIENT we didn't gain the weight over night so we can't expect to lose it overnight either..He was just being helpful and I didn't feel the lil comment about him not even having the band yet was necessary...He has been dieting ALONG time and has been successful for awhile he knows what he is talking about to a point...Just because someone has not had the surgery yet doesn't mean they are stupid.. With that being said...

Like others said i would try raising your calories a lil bit..Have you had a fill yet? I know i gained 6lbs between my 1 week checkup and my 6 week checkup but after i got my fill i lost the weight i had gained...Keep ya head looking up it will happen...Be Patient...

P.S. I am not trying to be rude either i am just trying to help..

  5. I too make smoothies with fruit but be careful you would be surprised how much sugar is in fruit...I usually put frozen blueberries and a banana in mine...I don't drink them as often after i found out the sugar content in the fruit but there are days i know i'm not going to get much food in so i definitely make a fruit smoothie to start the day and they are sooooo yummy and it makes it easy to get your Protein in that way as well...lol You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes:lol:

  6. Hey Dream2010,

Things will get better.... I was banded Dec.18th and had my first fill Jan.27th and i'm getting another lil fill tomorrow..Its not bad at all....as far as gaining weight back..I actually gained 6lbs back between my 1 week check up and my 6 week check up but i had a fill at my 6 week check up and have lost 5lbs in less than a week so i am happy about that...sliming and pbing you will at some point figure out first hand what they mean i know i did..lol..Sliming is when you have alot of saliva coming up and in your mouth from gettin something stuck in the band...you will know when it happens...PBing is productive Burp not quite sure how to explain this one but sometimes when something is stuck or a lil full you will burp a lil and a lil bit of stuff comes up and sometimes when stuff comes back up there will be like an air pocket of slime or something lol sounds nasty huh lol...its not too bad though..You probably don't have the energy because of not drinkin enough protein...try adding fruit to it and making a smoothie...but not alot of fruit because the sugars in them add up even though its natural sugars you don't want too much...

    Hope this info helps.....

You can hit me up any time you have a question or anything...

  7. chicken_pizza.jpg CHICKEN PIZZA

1 boneless chicken breast, about 5 1/2 ounces

    Dash Italian seasoning

    Dash garlic powder

    Dash salt

    Toppings:

    1 tablespoon pizza sauce

1/2 ounce pepperoni, 8 thin slices

1/2 large fresh mushroom, sliced thin, 1/2 ounce

1 ounce Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled

    1 ounce mozzarella cheese, shredded

2 tablespoons green pepper, minced, 1/2 ounce

1 tablespoon red onion, minced, 1/4 ounce

Pound the chicken as thin as possible without tearing it. Season both sides of the chicken with the seasonings and place it on a foil-lined baking sheet. Spread the pizza sauce on the top of the chicken. Arrange the remaining topping ingredients in this order: pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, cheese, peppers and then the onions. Lightly sprinkle with a little more Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Bake at 400º 10 minutes. Do not overcook.

This is very similiar to my Pizza Chicken but with this recipe the chicken acts more like a Pizza Crust. By pounding it very thin, I got a lot more surface area to cover with yummy pizza toppings. Since the baking time is very short, the peppers and onions stay a little bit crunchy. That's why it's important to mince them fine or they'll be a little too crisp after baking. And yes, the chicken will be cooked through in just 10 minutes. The Pizza Chicken is a bit more elegant looking but I think that this version gives you more pizza flavor in every bite. The arrangement of the toppings is such that it helps keep everything in place. If you can afford an additional carb, go ahead and add another ounce of cheese. I used just enough to hold the toppings in place but who doesn't like even more cheesy goodness? Click the photo to see a close-up.

  8. I just got my first fill (4.75cc's) on Wednesday and am wondering what people are eating that makes them feel the fullest for the longest amount of time?

I am trying to stay away from breads and things that are starchy so a lot of that is not an option..lol..but i want to eat things to keep my full feeling..I sometimes have a problem with feeling full so any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated..:)

  9. I didn't have to have documentation of exercise but every insurance is different...I had to see a dietitian and my primary doc for 6 months back to back as well as have a 5 year weight history..I couldn't miss one appt. My dietitian had me keep a food diary and exercise diary that i would give her and she would fax a copy to my doc and at the end of the 6 months my doc sent in all of the stuff i had gathered together including a psych evaluation to my insurance for approval...

So no i didn't have to have documented exercise..All i had is what i gave to my dietitian..

    Hope it helps...

  10. I had nails on when i had my lap band surgery and it was fine....It kinda depends on the length...as long as they can get the pulse thing on your finger and get their reading ok then its fine..If you have them longer you could either go to ya doc office and see if they have a pulse thing to stick on your finger to check the length or if you are worried about it i wouldn't get em taken off but you could get em shortened a lil..Its really easy to get em shortened...Otherwise its fine to have em on for surgery...

I was on a 10 day liquid diet before surgery but every surgeon is different just like every one and their body is different...I'm sure your doc knows what they are doing...Just try to relax it will all be done with soon and you will be on your journey to a whole new life!!!

I haven't used Unjury Protein but i would assume that it would be fine to use post op...I don't think it matters the brand of protein as long as it is the kind of protein your body needs..my doc wanted me to drink 90grams of protein while i was on the 10 day pre op diet as well as the post op liquid diet..the when i was able to eat mushies and from there on out he wanted me to drink 60 grams of protein...I hope this helps...

;)By the way Congratulations on your surgery!!!

  11. Hey... Thanks for replying!! The Protein content is 6 grams so not very much. It just says to eat full bar with 8 oz of Water preferably 30 mins. before a meal. They actually don't make you very full at all..lol otherwise i wouldn't have had to get surgery lol I just thought maybe they would help a lil and i didn't just have to waste them. This was the first and ONLY box i bought. I originally just wanted to try them out and i wasn't super impressed. :)

  12. I have almost a full box of Full bars left and was wondering if anyone knows whether they would be ok still to use? I do not get my first fill until the 27th so i don't have restriction right now and i thought that maybe they would help me out during this awkward stage in my lap band journey. I looked through the ingredients and this is what are in them:

Puffed Wheat,Brown rice Syrup, peanuts(I have the Peanut Butter crunch flavor),Soy Protein concentrate, Honey, Glycerine, Agave syrup, Acacia gum, canola oil, Natural flavors, salt and soy lecithin.

So there really isn't anything in them to expand and get stuck as far as i know. Any Thoughts???

  13. I too get my first fill next week and i am soooo EXCITED about it!!! I too have kinda slowed way down with losing weight and can't wait til i start losing again...from what people have been telling me it sounds as though it could take up to 4-5 fills til you hit that sweet spot but everyone is different. I was told not to get my hopes up too much where the first fill is concerned but i look at it this way..If i can get ANY type of restriction it will help..Keep ya head up..It will happen soon...

  14. I will join the fun and enter the Valentine's day Challenge...I really haven't weighed myself on a correct scale since my 1 week check up about 3 weeks ago so I'm not positive on my correct weight Although i have a rough estimate lol but since i am new to the game and i will get my first fill on the 28th i am going to make my goal 10lbs. Not a huge goal but a modest one for being new to the game...Here i go..:)

  15. I am a month post-op and do not get my first fill until Jan. 28th and right now i can eat almost whatever and as much as i like as long as i chew good. I have been doing really good during the day and into the evening but its later on in the night that i start to get cravings for BAD things and want to snack. I know i should be able to say NO but this is a learning process and i am trying hard to learn. This is why i am asking others for suggestions. Anyone else get this and does anyone have any helpful suggestions or things to try to kick the cravings or at least help me with will power?

  16. My doctor wants me on 90 grams of Protein while on liquids and 60 grams as soon as i start mushies and from then on. I told them at my 1 week post-op that i was having a hard time drinking 90 grams of protein a day (I was getting tired of em). I had one nurse tell me that when i get hungry and aren't supposed to eat real food yet drink as much protein as i could stand lol Now i am on mushies and can put fruit in my Protein Shakes so i can easily get the required 60 grams in. It is yummy now!:w00t:

Hope it helps. Pretty much what others have said but sometimes it helps if more than one person confirm it. He told me to at least get 60 grams in and i would be ok

  17. 1. The pain in your shoulders and upper body is from the air/gas they used during surgery. My doctor told me to get up and walk as much as i could because it will help the gas come out of the body. They just said that walking will help heal in general. Patsal hit it right on the nose.:w00t:

    2. When i first had the surgery the only position i could sleep in was on my back but as i started healing i was able to start tolerated other positions. First back then sides. Now i am a month post-op and i am starting to be able to sleep on my stomach not fully all the way on my stomach but close. You had surgery and lil incisions on your stomach what do you expect lol Everyone is different and heals differently though so just go with what feels ok.

    3. Sorry I'm not from Mass.:drool::sad:

    4. The first few days after surgery where a lil painful but my doc had me on good meds. I think the most painful part is getting in and out of bed and on and off the couch. Things in general like that. To me it was the incision area that were the painful part especially the bigger incision. Just sore more than pain.

    5. As far as when you go back to work depends on the kind of job you have. I work in a warehouse and do a lot of heavy lifting so i have to take the whole 6 weeks off works. (My employer requires it). If i had an office job or something more simple on the body like that i would have gone back to work a week later. Like i said everyone is different and all heal differently.

Hopefully this helps to some degree lol

  18. I have Aetna also and i had to do 6 months seeing a dietitian and seeing my PCP and i also had to have a 5 year weight history. I had to take a psych evaluation too. After all that i could submit to insurance and they approved it in less than a week. Then i had to go through all the pre-op testing...EKG, Upper G.I, blood work, breathing test (I can't remember what it was called) and an abdominal ultrasound. Then i had to go to a pre-op appointment and do a 10 day clear liquid diet then i had surgery on Dec. 18th. I will get my first fill on Jan.28th which i am SUPER excited for.

  19. I too think it is pretty low that he said you would be one of his failures...That is ridiculous!!

We live in a small area and my aunt used to drive about 3 hours to go to her surgeon and she was feeling bummed because she wasn't losing much then she decided to go to a local bariatric surgeon and since she has went to him she has lost over 80lbs and is feeling awesome. Maybe you need a different doctor with a different approach to get the change and results you are looking for.

  20. Does anyone know why we can't have milk? Even if it is skim? I like doing half milk half Water with the Protein powder to get some calcium... Thoughts?

My doc doesn't want us to have milk either. This is because milk even if its skim milk still has a high amount of sugars. My doc wants me on a sugar free diet or no more than 6grams of sugar per tablespoon (I believe is what it was). I was told if it ends in "ose" then it has sugar in it which make sense. Examples: gluclose, sucrose, maltose and the one in Milk...Lactose. Here are a couple links about "ose"...

  21. Hey Everyone....

I just found this thread and wanted to join in...I was banded Dec.18, 2009...I get my first fill on Jan.28th and am super excited about it!!! I get to go on mushies starting Friday but have been cheating a lil off and on since new years...I know its not good and i am really trying but you can only drink so much Protein Shakes until you get extremely done with them..lol..I am going through this awkward stage right now..I am hungry and can still eat not quite as much as before..I even had my first stuck episode on the 10th that was so much fun..lol..I had a chicken tortilla wrap and took a bite then my son wanted it so i took one bite really fast and without thinking about it i swallowed the first bite before i had chewed it good enough and i felt it get stuck so i tried washing it down with Water which didn't work. I sat a few minutes then tried water again then it came up and i felt good again:tt2:. I think things will get better when i get my first fill and i go back to work. I will have less time on my hands and i work in a warehouse with a lot of heavy lifting so the extra workout will be great. Well my two lil monkeys are needing me so i better go for now.

    Have a Blessed Day!

    Miss Katie

  22. Hey Ladies....

I will get my first fill on Jan.28th so i don't have quite the restrictions that some of you have. I usually eat everything fine and every once in awhile i will feel something kinda stuck or slowly going through and its alright i have usually just drank Water and it goes through. I am used to eating fast sometimes because i have lil ones and i have been doing an awesome job at learning to slow way down when i eat. Well last night i bought a chicken tortilla wrap and took a couple bites then my son wanted it so i quickly took one last bite and swallowed the other i had in my mouth without even thinking about it....NOT a great idea!!! So i drank water thinking it will work cuz the other times it did oh no not this time.. The chicken came up and so did the water i drank and the water was still cold lol kind of felt weird....I didn't mind it coming up too much cuz it is alot different than throwing up..There is no gagging or anything it is kind of a waiting game though lol This is the first time i have had something get stuck that i couldn't wash down. Since this happened before my first fill i am going to try even harder to make sure it doesn't happen after i get my fill...lol and if it does i'm not gonna drink water...lol
