    so close & so frustrated

I completely understand...I have been doing something very similiar and I am just not seeing the weight come off the way I thought it would. So frustrating...I am just so worried I may have gained this month...I just ordered a new scale because the one I have is a lil old...and I am hoping it is wrong because there is a def. indication I gained weight..but if I gained 7lbs...I would think I would have felt it a lil...well I guess that is my problem...I don't realize...and need to be banded....I hope it works...out..just stay strong...

    Pre-op diet

I am not up to my pre-op diet...just trying to lose some weight before it gets closer...and prepare mentally for the surgery and post-op. I have been using designer whey for the past week I went for the 100 cal. Choc. I add 1/2 small banana and a 1/4 tsp of pure cocoa 3 oz of Water and 2 ice cubes... and blend in the blender. It gets better everytime I make it. I do find there is a huge diff with the blender and the spoon...and the whisk ball...Key is cold water if you don't have ice. Blender is the best. My husband drinks it with 2 scoops and about 12 oz of water...not my choice..since I like it a little thicker. He finds it very satisfying for breakfast. NOt sure what is going to happen after surgery if I can have the banana...will find out after my nutr. consult. I also found lots of hints on bariacticeating.com. They have a sampler package that I am waiting for in the mail. Will let you know how it compares...GOOD LUCK...

    Sleep Apnea study question

I am still only a little better then 1/2 way through my 6 months.. however I read a lot...there are many other things that would make you qualify with insurance for the surgery..such as your BMI 40 + is a qualifier...with nothing else...high cholestrol, H BP- diabetes...you really should speak with your primary care physician since they will be the one helping to support everything for your approval along with the surgeons office. I certainly would not discount your golden ticket...and I would try to attend a support group. They can be really informative of other peoples experiences. What is super important is to maintain your 6 months -- don't gain any weight..in that time...don't skip a month with your primary dr...or else you need to start all over again. I cannot tell you how many people I heard from in the support group that missed an appt and had to start all over again. Good luck and don't give up!!!
  5. Hello All... I am in my 4th month of preping for surgery. I went to my first support group meeting last night. I was so dissappointed. The faciliator of the meeting was the psychologist for the group I am working with ..who also is the one they require you to use for clearance. Well...this dr said...my job is to convince all you lap band people not to do the surgery and to have gastric bypass.... He went on for 30 mins..and people that were sitting there challenged him...and then some said..they had orginally set out to do lap band and changed there minds because of him. I think this is outrageous that this man is doing this....I am going to call the NP and request that I see another psychologist which she had given me some indication was possible...One group member said...in her psych session that he convinced her...is that what should be going on in that session?? Of course he did say...doesn't matter what you choose its the same price...for the dr. The NP whom I had my orginal consult with...was very open ..but totally supported me with the lap band...never trying to take away from my decision..just showing me the options... I was really hoping to take away something from this meeting...and find some support..as I feel I am not really losing a lot of weight with my supervised weight loss program. Well in some respects...I guess I am now even more sure I want the lapband Anyone one have any similar scenarios?? Thanks for reading  Also.....one more thing...nutrionist said no liquid diet 1500 cal or below two weeks before....but if you gained weight they will not do surgery...this was said at meeting not to me in a consult....ahhhhh

    Vitamin D deficient?

I was told yesterday that my Vit D was def.....and my parathyroid was out of wack..but they said vit d goes together with it...and gave me vit d 50,000iu once a week and said that we will repeat blood work every few months and watch it. They said it was no big deal..but just made me a lil nervous...The other thing...I was told..that this is fairly common..and the test for it wasn't always around. In addition they are finding that it is the cause of a lot of problems that could have been avoided..such as cancer..and osteoprosis... Good LuCk
  8. Hi My little bit of knowledge of surgery from my mom about many surgerys-is that you get scar tissue..that prevents the laproscopy procedure from being effective...or they call it a "candidate" - MY mom had a few colon surgerys..then needed her gall bladder out..but since she had the previous surgerys they couldnt' do it laps. so had to go traditional. However...this was not lap band..and she is a lil skinny thing. I would call surgeons office and ask to speak with NP and see if you would be a candidate based on your history. I am sure they will find some solution...that would work best for you. GOOD luck

    And the letter.......

Congrats!!! Good luck with the pre-op diet...I share your anxiety..but knowing its so worth it ...in the end...
  10. While I share everyones stories...you all have brought me many laughs and tears. Knowing that the end of my heavy days are near gives me such pleasure. Well here are a few that I have been able to think dig up in my thoughts of unsurpressed memories  Went wedding dress shopping.. only able to try the dresses with clips on my clothing..at klienfleds..until theysent in a team of people like 5 and came up with an idea..they would make a muslin and then make the dress because they didn't go up to my size. - WHICH WAS 22 Well...I knew plenty of other places had that size ...so needless to say we took our business elsewhere...and they treated me wonderfully. Ironically they had the nerve to call me a few days later with a price and wondering if I had given it any thought..I know in some respect they were trying but they made me feel horrible..that is why the show about the dresses is so true. I really was dead set against getting a video for my wedding because the last thing i wanted to see was me in video...I did get it..however 1.5yrs later...haven't yet finished my album and all the stuff needed for the video. I figure if I see it once I have the surgery I won't feel so dissappointed even though I love my pictures...I know I am not going to love the video. However, I know there will be people that have passed away and I will be grateful in the years to come...as I was convinced by a girlfriend :blushing:Last time my husband and I went tubing on our boat together..we were on the tube that is needless to say called "BIG MABLE" and because of our weight it was tipping us back and holding the engine on the boat back....oo we don't do that together anymore--esp since we had a boat full of friends luckily they just didn't get it or let on ..that they knew. :glare: Everytime I go to get my hair done ...the place likes you to take off your shirt and put on the robe...well it takes me to try on about 3 before i realize..I am leaving my shirt on and just putting this over it..then the mirrors you have to sit in front of are full length so you see every bit of rolls everywhere ....while the place is a high end salon..its always so stressfull..because I always feel so unconfortable - you would think these places would be a lil more sensitive to people that are not a one size fits all.... Even if you go for a massage..the robes are way to small. Well thank you all for sharing.....its nice to know other people have similiar stories.
  11. Good luck you are almost there..EGD this afternoon--and another bad headache from cpap machine. FYI my brother had the lapband about 5 years ago and he is a nurse too also went to another hospital. Just didn't want everyone knowing..either..despite HIPPA --I think nurses and other people that work shift work have it the hardest...especially nurses...when you care for patients people bring you food..its the universal comfort for everyone to give and receive.
  12. I am also new..to the site..I have been reading for a while but have not contributed. I have found many journeys so inspirational and just an outlet for me to confirm the journey I have begun. Lydia you have been so kind in sharing all your information. I am too from SI. I am hoping for surgery in July. So far-- I have have completed bloodwork, sono of adm..DVT of legs -PCP visits from Jan -- APril is this week. Nutrition is next month with psyc eval...and EGd is tomorrow. Cardiologists at the end of the month. In addition I did the sleep apnea study and yes I have it- 77 episodes in an hr. Right now one of my big battles is that i have started with my c-pap machine and I am having a heck of time with the mask. Its leaves huge imprints- I am only on night 3 but I am fustrated. Last night at 4AM I had to take it off and just breath ...I do have my follow up with pulmonary in a few weeks so I assume we can work .. In addition...I am trying to calorie count and reduce my intake to lose weight. I feel I have been unsuccessful..only losing about 7 lbs in 3months. I keep feeling like many and this is my last meal...also when I do really stick to my diet I am fustruated because I am not seeing a decrease in weight. So this site...is right up my alley and look forward to reading your future posts. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE :cool2::thumbup:
