  1. Stopping to check up on how your sleep study went.. did they have to give you something to sleep?

Like i told you before, i have Sleep apnea, and I have a CPAP but I will be truthful and say i dont use it, its has been so hard getting used to it,But i had an appt today with my doctor and she gave me something to help relax me to be able to fall asleep with the mask on, so will tell ya how it goes with the meds tomorrow maybe...

Good luck hun, dont worry about this, if you get the LAP-BAND®, it will help you get rid of this sleep apnea quickly

Well I have another sleep study with the cpap machine on Tuesday. I hope it all goes as good as it possibly can lol :)

  2. Thank you all sooooo much yall honestly put me more at ease. I was a little scared to fall asleep tonight but now I feel much better. I am suppose to be banded on Feb 10th but that may get pushed back because of my anemia. How does having sleep apnea effect the LAP-BAND® surgery? I haven't spoke to a doctor yet It just all seems so confusing all of my appointments are set up by True Results ( the company im getting my Lap-Band through) and the Apnea testing is done by a third party doc in Dallas but they have a tech there in Austin. A lady from that docs office called me today to tell me I had severe sleep apnea and that I stopped breathing about 47 times in a hour and that someone will be getting in contact with me after my 2nd study to get me set up with a cpap. It was a lot to take in honestly, I was still in shock and didn't think to ask a lot of questions but I plan on asking a lot more questions when I see them next week. Again thank you all for sharing your stories and words of encouragement. I will do my best to keep yall informed.

  3. Well I did my sleep study last night and I now know I have severe sleep apnea. I just cant believe it. The news hit me hard and it still is. Honestly when I went in I wasnt prepared for the outcome because I was certain I didnt have any breathing problems. I have been crying for most of the day and Im feeling really down. I think I will research this some more and maybe I wont be so scared. I have a cpap sleep study again on the 26th. Im not looking forward to it I hate how uncomfortable I am with all those wires on and that goo in my hair but my tech was awesome. Anyone else who has sleep apnea?I could really use some support from someone who has gone or going through this. Thanks everyone

  5. Anyone told you that you snore?

If you dont fall asleep for a set amount of time, most sleep labs give you a sleeping pill to help you fall asleep. I took my MP3 player with me too, it helped me relax and fall sleep..

    Good luck!

Well I asked around and they said very lightly. I hope they do give me something that will help me fall asleep because I'm definitely going to be out of my comfort zone.

  6. Hey all! i've been lurking around here for a while now just reading and taking in all the awesome information you guys have and i wanted to say thank you for helping me make a very informed decision. I was just wondering how open you guys were when it came to telling people about having this done....i have only told 3 people and i feel myself not even wanting to tell anyone else because i dont want get get crap from people,,,people in my life havent' been that supportive of me.

Im sorry that you haven't had the support you need but I think you will be able to find that here. I haven't been here long but you are right there is a lot of awesome information out there. In fact it is pretty easy to feel overwhelmed, well at least I know I feel that way. Now as far as to tell or not to tell, I think that is going to depend on the person or situation. I have been telling everyone I can because IM excited but that doesn't mean everyone is going to be excited for me but I'm willing to take that chance. I know my loved ones are rooting for me, and hey if they're not they can just keep it to themselves. Try not to surround yourself with negative people. If someone has a problem with what your doing to make yourself happy and healthier then they must not be a person that you need to be around in the first place.

  7. Hey Ash.... I am 26, I have really bad sleep apnea and have had 2 sleep study... I actually didnt find them that hard to do... I would take a little bit of a sleep melt before going in (its a otc sleep med) and once i was awake i slept like a baby..

I was worried about the wires too cause I am a resless sleeper but those wires really do stick well and they do a good job at taping them so you kinda forget they are there..

    good luck!

Thanks for the info Liftingchic, I haven't ever had a history of sleep apnea and Im hoping that I still don't. The only problem Im having is trouble falling asleep. Its odd when I started school last summer all that stopped I slept like a log, but I took this semester off so I could get the surgery done and not miss any school and I swear now its the same thing again ugh!

  8. I am so glad that I found this site. I just turned 26 and this procedure is something I have considered for quite a while. I am going to a seminar in my area on the 21st of this month and am excited and nervous at the same time. I know that beginning this journey will be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a few question. For one, is a sleep study always required or is it case by case? I had my gallbladder removed about 8 months ago and other than some basic bloodwork I didn't have to have any other special tests. Also, what kind of support systems does everyone have? I am very uncomfortable discussing any of this with people so this site is a godsend! (Not to say that you guys aren't people, its just so much easier to chat online!) I have been on some kind of diet or another practically since I was in 4th grade. I also worry about some of the documentation because I have always refused to be weighed at the doc's office. Sorry for the ramblings. I really need to organize my thoughts!

Hey Shelly, I'm sure we all feel the same way to some extent, I know I'm nervous. So many of us if not all have been there and done the diet thing. There are a couple different factors that will determine if you need a sleep study and other tests, not everyone is the same. It really depends on how you will be paying for the LAP-BAND, such as self pay or through your insurance co. Just try and soak up as much info as you can from the seminar and don't be afraid to ask questions. I bet you will walk away fairly confident in your decision. Good Luck and we are all here for you. :)

  9. I feel the same way, you are not alone. The day after I got approved for the loan I will need to pay for my surgery, I caught myself chickening out. I thought wait I haven't tried this and that and maybe I should do this etc. I questioned myself with the same questions SherryW did. I won’t even sit here and pretend I’m 100% sure everything is going to work out, but I think that’s normal. You are making a major life changing decision of course you’re gonna freak a little, I know I am.

  11. Just thought I will start chit chat thread, if you have something you would like to share please feel free to share it here.

I have a sleep study coming up on the 20th and I cant imagine I will be able to sleep at all especially when I know someone is watching me sleep. Granted its not some creepy person outside fogging up my window LOL but I still will know they are watching me. Not to mention all of the cables and cords that I'm sure will be hooked up to me, how do they expect me to sleep?:w00t: I'm sure a lot of you have had to do one of these things, how was your experience?

  12. Id be lying if I didn't say all of the above. I would love to go into ordinary clothing stores and buy a cute outfit, ride the roller coasters with my nephews, not feel obligated to buy two seats on a airplane, feel confident and sexy, and really just enjoy the things I couldn't before but I have been having a lot of health issues recently so that would be my main reason for sure.

  13. Welcome! I am pretty new here myself and I was born and raised in the good ol ATX up until I was 17. Its always been my home though. Im so happy for you! How are things so far? I just got my surgery date yesterday for Feb 10th so assuming all my financial and medical ducks are in a row I should be good to go. Please feel free to contact me if you need to talk.;)

  14. Well Im am so happy and things are happening so fast. My LAP-BAND surgery is tentatively scheduled for Feb 10th!!! Of course I have to do some pre op tests like cardiac clearance, blood test, sleep study, and the 2 week post op diet but then it should be all systems go! Im so excited!

  15. Hi! I financed through Care Credit and had surgery at the True Results location in Scottsdale, Arizona because the insurance I had at the time excluded bariatric procedures. It actually was pretty easy. In some ways, I think it's easier to finance.

You can read about my financing and pre-operative testing if you'd like by going to Gastric What? . Basically, I went in on a Tuesday, did my pre-op testing on Thursday, and had surgery scheduled for four weeks later when I walked out of the office that day.

I don't know if the process differs from one True Results office to the next, though. I'd be interested if you'd let me know how it goes for you if you go through them (and even if you don't!).

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions I can answer.

Cool I will check that out and thanks I sure will keep you updated.

  16. Ash,

Just remember, everyone here has to go through all the steps too. We might not have to finance however, in order to get the band we all have to go through the steps. Just remember this is about you, and your future...Don't give up! I know myself I'm getting anxious, I've done everything except a chest x-ray and my last blood work...the psych evaluation and my other appointments were cake.. they scheduled them right after my seminar which was Sept. 09...the worst thing for me was that my Dr. made me get a sleep study done...I won't even tell you how bad it was ..it was awful.. but regardless, just hang in there, and know that we're all here, going through the same thing...don't second guess yourself

Thank you for your kind word of encouragement they mean a lot. I have an appointment to have an individual meeting tomorrow and Im so excited!

  17. Hi ash,

I'm sure you'll figure out who you want to do your surgery. When I went to my seminar, the surgeon there specifically told us, that if our insurance didn't cover the surgery, that they had an "in-house" program to help. Maybe you could inquire with whomever you choose as your surgeon to find out what for financing programs they have.

Good luck, keep us posted on how your making out.

    Tina

Thank you for the reply. I actually went to two different seminars one for True Results whom offer financing through credit care the total cost there is 15,000. Then one seminar at southwest bariatric in Austin they specialize in the REALIZE band. They where not very helpful once I was denied by my insurance, so now I am leaning more toward True Results. I'm just worried about all the steps I have to take and of course I am continuously second guessing myself.
