  1. I drink the Premier Nutrition Protein shakes (chocolate) every morning and sometimes even for lunch, depending on how busy I am. They are 11oz with 30g Protein, 3g fat, 5g Carb... and they are delicious. (I honestly never thought I would say that about a protein drink!)

There is a website Premier Nutrition - Diet, organic, and low carb, Protein Bars, protein powders, protein supplements and health supplements but I buy mine at costco -- it's much cheaper. I believe a case of 18 is $23.49 at our costco. I have seen them at Sam's as well (case of 12 for $16.49).

It reminds me of generic chocolate milk, if that makes sense :smile2:

  2. My husband has sleep apnea (diagnosed several years ago) and has VERY pronounced lapses. He will stop breathing for several seconds and then has a big "gasp" to catch his breath. He would often wake himself up due to the gasps. It was pretty obvious that he had it! When I scheduled my sleep study, I thought I either wouldn't have it or would have a very mild case since my husband said that he didn't detect any lapses when I slept. (I do snore though!) However, based on the study, I actually had a pretty severe case. They noted that I stopped breathing 54 times in 60 minutes. I didn't believe it! But my doctor said that the lapses were short and rapid; they happen so fast that they aren't noticeable. My body "wakes" up or reacts to the lapses, but I don't become conscious when it happens.

I would bet that a lot of people have it (though be it a mild case) and don't even know it!

  3. My biggest issue after surgery was my throat. I had a tube down my throat during the procedure so after surgery I was extremely hoarse. I don't know if others experienced this, but just something to consider since you will be speaking during the ceremony.

But I think you'll probably feel up to it. Good luck in your decision and congrats on being banded!

  4. I quit cold turkey on 8/18/08. I just decided that I was done. I picked a date and said that's it - no more. The first few weeks were the most difficult but it was not impossible! I chewed a LOT of gum! It's definitely been made easier since smoking has been banned here in nearly all public places. I'm not tempted as much.

I will say that when my hubby and I went to the Caribbean last year, I tried to smoke a cigarette one night and I just couldn't do it. I felt like I had licked an ashtray

    Good luck!

  5. I think if you called the surgeon's office, they might be able to give you some names (without waiting for the next seminar). Technically you could probably go to any PCP for this, but the plus of going to someone recommended by the surgeon is that the doctor would be very familiar with the type of documentation needed...

There was a guy in my nutrition class whose doctor didn't record the correct info and the guy had to start the 6 month diet over again.

  6. Well, I did it! Was banded yesterday morning and was home by 3:00 or so. Pain really isn't that bad though it can be difficult to find a comfortable position to sit in....lol. The only thing that has really bothered me is taking really deep breaths but its getting better.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how good I feel. I wouldn't say I'm 100% by any means, but I was expecting to feel a lot worse. I slept a good bit yesterday but am trying to get up every couple of hours and walk around.

To all those getting banded soon, good luck -- you'll do great!

    :(

  7. I, too, am being banded tomorrow 8/16 @ 9:30...

I'd love to go to sleep but I'm trying to make sure my bowel prep is over...lol!

I keep telling myself that everything will be fine and surgery will be over before I know it, but the fear of the unknown is really creeping in...

Good luck to all of others being banded tomorrow! I'm anxious to hear about your experiences!
