Okay so I've told a few people now and it's hard...
you have a good point there. Maybe that's what I should tell my friends. I'm big enough that I have sleep apnea, hypertension, GERD and arthritis in my knees. I'm tired of hurting and not sleeping well at night and I want to be able to run and play and keep up with my 3 kiddos.

Okay so I've told a few people now and it's hard...
My mom, dh and MIL are very supportive. My FIL says I don't need surgery I just need to back away from the table:( And my friends say Why are you doing that? Your not even big enough to qualify. Then they are shocked to find that I am big enough to qualify. I think I'm through telling anyone and I'm going to keep it to myself until after surgery.

No Comorbidities
Your chances are really good. Most of the time if your BMI is 40 or over you aren't required to have any co morbidities. Just call your insurance company and ask what there requirements are. Mine required a BMI of 40 with no co morbidities or a BMI of 35 with at least one co morbidity. Good Luck!

How do you work the pre op dieat around your family??
I start my pre op liquid diet on Tuesday. I have a 10 day pre op liquid diet and then more liquids for 2 weeks after. So here's my question. I'm a stay at home mom. We live on a small farm and my dh is a meat and potato man. He loves home cooked meals. My kids could care less though they really hate meals and would rather have junk. So I'm thinking about telling dh that he's on his own. I can't see cooking a great meal every night when I can't even eat it. Even when I'm able to eat real food again he's not going to want to eat what I'm eating so then I'll have to make 2 meals every night:( How did you guys handle this? Advice please.

Lifting and caring for kids after surgury. Just decided I am going thru with it!
I have a 9 year old, 3 year old and 4 month old. I'm a stay at home mom and my dh works all the time. I was told no lifting at all for at least a week. I can't even lift my baby:( But I have my MIL and my Mom helping me out with the kids. I just have to do this and I can't wait any longer.

Lots of pre op diet questions....
Well the coordinator told me that August 6th was pushing it but there was an opening on the surgery schedule and it just so happens that my dh is already off that day so I jumped on it.

Lots of pre op diet questions....
First off I was told I could have 3 shakes per day made with Water not milk, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, fat free broth and skim milk, cottage cheese, or yogurt with no fruit-3 servings or less a day. I'm assuming that means Fat Free Cottage Cheese?? I was given samples of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein to try and they also said I could have water, Crystal Light, coffee, Tea and 1 cup of clear juice per day. I was also told to start a chewable Multivitamin today. Well the only ones I could find were Centrum and they are NASTY. Do they make a good GUMMY chewable Vitamin for us? Also is Un Jury good? This is going to suck but I have 3 kids that keep me super busy so I rarely have time to eat anyway, hopefully that will help.

No Advil or similar?
I was told the same thing today. I use Tylenol Arthritis Pain. The surgeon said it's fine and IMO it works really good. It's stronger than regular Tylenol.

had the talk with my family
Yay! I'm glad it went well for you. I think your aunt is right also. The more you learn the better off you'll be. I'm sorry for your loss:( I had lost 55 lbs on Weight Watchers in 2009 and then 2 of my relatives were murdered. It all came back and then some.

Well said!

I don't think you can make a decision to band or not based on someone else's complications. I say that b/c complications can vary WIDELY. What I mean is what exactly was the complication? Was the patient following all the rules, eating the right stuff? Where there other underlying medical conditions? Was the surgeon good? Good Luck!!

How often will you/are you calling your insurance?
Congrats to you!! I'm going nutso also:( I check my insurance website daily for updates. That won't show an approval but if I'm denied it will show up there.

How often will you/are you calling your insurance?
I called on Friday to check the status of my pre determination. The lady said a decision had not been reached yet and I should call back once a week. She said she thinks they will have a decision by Friday. I'm thinking about calling again on Wednesday though and then Friday if needed. How often will you be checking?

Stuuuupid thyroid!
Wow! Have you always been on meds? I agree take your meds first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and DON"T take any Vitamins with them or they won't work. You should space vitamins 3-4 hours apart from Synthroid. Good Luck!

Saw the nutritionist yesterday and it was devastating...
I'm not sure if she did it to get to the magic 100 or if she really meant it. She was super tiny herself. She said for women 5 foot you should weigh 100 pounds. Then you add 5 pounds for every inch to get your normal, healthy weight.
