    Week 4!

I am finally exercising! Yeah! I have been getting at least 30 minutes of exercise today. So far I have lost 17 lbs!!! I began to worry my progress would slow down if I did not start moving, so I am mostly doing the elliptical machine each day. I am finally use to being hungry. It does not really bother me anymore. I still cannot wait to get my first fill on the 16th! To think about eating less, and feeling full.... I cannot wait!!!! Three weeks ago, I would not have believed how I feel right now. I was miserable, sad, and in pain. But now I realize the surgery was definitely worth it. I have more energy, and a different perspective on life! The surgery is not a complete cure; I have had to change my eating habits and philosophy about food. The fact that I have had to change my eating habits to food I do not like has helped! I do not look forward to eating anymore! HA HA HA!!!!! Off to the gym! I hope I keep it up! I had set a goal that I would be exercising 3Xs a week by Feb. 5th. Looks like I will make that goal! Woo Hoo!

    Lap Band

Two weeks out from surgery tomorrow and I am feeling great! My first week of surgery, I thought I was losing it! Talk about miserable! Things got better around day 6. I ended up getting the LapBand. I was gung-ho about Realize band, but ended up with the LapBand after doing extensive research. I am getting hungrier each day. I cannot wait until I get my first fill. February 17th will be my magical day! I have been consuming between 1100-1200 calories a day. They told me keep it under 1000, but I am too hungry if I stay that low! I am eating healthy foods, no bread, pasta or rice. I never realized how much I miss eating bread. I use to take a sandwich to work each day. Now it is soup and jello, protein shakes for mid morning and afternoon snacks. I am walking for exercise. I will probably go back to the gym this week, but no weights. I love lifting weights, but hate cardio. Hopefully I will end up loving cardio. I went out to dinner with all my friends for the first time last night. We went to Asahi for Michelle's birthday. I ate chicken and vegetables. Brought my own crystal lite to make something to drink. I have started the 30/30 rule, but depending on the food I am eating, I have difficulty. I need to master that before my first fill. Overall I am doing well with my lifestyle change. I am probably not up to par as everyone else, but compared to where I was, I am doing fabulous. I have not purchased a scale, so the only time I will be weighing myself if when I go to the doctor. My clothes are fitting looser, so that is a good sign. I need to exercise more each day. Did not exercise today, I am getting a cold. Just taking it one day at a time!

    Lap Band

The 30/30 rule is no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. I have been slacking on this rule. I need to get it down by my first fill on Feb 16th. They do not want you to drink before because it lubricates your stomach and makes it easier for it to slip through the band, making you hungrier. The same reason for 30 minutes after, it will push the food through your stomach faster.
  4. HI :) Doing well. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My Grandfather died last week. :( I have been in Philly for his funeral. He died peacefully hugging my Grandmom, so I am thankful they were together, and he did not experience any pain.

How are you feeling? I am feeling 100% compared to when I had the surgery. LOL I thought I was going to die that first week! I have lost 17 lbs since surgery. I have been doing a low carb/high protein diet. I did not do too well this weekend at the funeral, but compared to what I would use to eat, I did great!!!! I get my first fill on the 16th, and I cannot wait. I am tired of being hungry( I am actually getting use to it now though!!!). LOL Take care!!!!

  5. I was completely freaking out during the 1st and 2nd period!!!! Y'all definitely out shot us! I am so pumped we beat the Pens. I cannot stand that team. I was bummed that Y'all did not beat them in The Cup last year! Have a good week!

  6. What does "wanting to go around the band" mean?

    So Many Questions

Surgery is on Monday. I have so many questions even though I have read every book, and met with several professionals. I guess I need to take it one day at a time after my surgery. I ordered cases of Oh Yeah! to drink over the next couple of months! LOL Tomorrow is clear liquids only in prepartion for the surgery on Monday. I am wondering how that will go. I will probably be a grouchy mess! grrrrrr  I am excited at the possibility of having more energy, more flexibility, more confidence, and less pain. I am so tired during the day. I have no "get up and go." I am hoping that after a month, I will sit down and read this feeling much better physically!

    So Many Questions

I definitely agree with what everyone has said! I am feeling better, adjusting to my new lifestyle, and have a positive outlook! I am so glad for this site and the people on it. Without the support, I would be lost! Thank you!

8 weeks post op ~ feeling discouraged

You lucky! My doctor is making me weight until the 17th of February to get my first fill. I am keeping my calories to 1100 to 1200 a day, but it is a struggle. Keeping a food diary is helping though. I miss bread. LOL

8 weeks post op ~ feeling discouraged

I was thinking about purchasing a scale, but after reading these posts, I am going to put that off. I have always found out my weight whenever I visit the doctor. I will probably keep it that way. I have noticed my clothes getting looser, but I also notice I am getting hungrier! Keep up the good work! You have lost 20+ pounds. If you are working out, you are gaining muscle, which does weigh more. I would get a measuring tape and keep track of your progress that way!

I hope your appointment goes well!!! Goodbye Heartburn!
  13. I am glad you are feeling well! I am hungry too! My stomach is grumbling as I type! LOL I will find out when my first fill is, and when I can eat solids tomorrow. I do not think I have lost any weight either. I feel like a bloated heech! Hang in there! :)

  14. I cannot feel my port either. The only thing I feel when I bend over is my largest incision stretching. YUCK! I will find out where my port is tomorrow when I go to my follow up!

    No restriction whatsoever!

Thank you for posting this thread SwanGal! I have been worried about the same situation for the past couple of days! I am sitting here reading all these posts while my stomach grumbles! LOL I am still on liquids. The most solid thing I have had is Chicken and Wild Rice soup from Panera. I chewed the chicken until it was nothing, because I was scared I was cheating! LOL I was so hungry though. Kept to all liquids today, but I am so hungry! Off to bed with a growling stomach again! Thanks again! I wish everyone success!!!

    Band Size

My doctor gave me that large LapBand too. I have my first follow-up tomorrow, and would like to find out why he chose that one. I had my surgery last Monday. I am on a liquid diet and I am hungry. I have no restriction and can take in liquids the same as before my surgery. (I still sip, but sometimes I forget). My first fill should occur in about 5 weeks.
  17. I am excited that we were at the hospital the same day for surgery! Too Funny! I have a ton of questions I want to ask you!

  18. How are you feeling? I hope you are well! I am doing fine. Starting to get hungry. My Dr. gave me the large LapBand. He said that it does not really restrict the stomach. I go see him tomorrow and will find out what is going on. Take Care!

  19. We play y'all on the 19th. I will be at that game! I have season tickets to the Capitals! Go Caps!

  20. I have been reading so much literature about the LapBand and Realize Band. The pros and cons of each are driving me crazy! I had settled on the Realize Band, but now I am debating on getting the LapBand. How does one decide?

I was banded a week ago and I really feel blah. I am keeping up on my protein drinks and fluids. I am growing hungrier each day. I have not had any problem drinking. My doctor said that is because he implanted the large size band in my stomach. I caught myself drinking my protein shake normally as I would have before surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?
  23. I hear you on the protein drinks! I can take Oh Yeah, Isopure, and Muscle Milk Light. There us some after taste and smell, but not as bad as others! There is also one I drink from a plastic test tube. It is OK too. I buy mine "ready to drink." it is pricier, but I can stomach them. I usually buy in bulk, on sale, or from Cost Co.

My doctor told me if I was vomiting or had diarreah to call him ASAP. I think you should call him first thing tomorrow. I wish you good health! PS my follow-up is on the 6th too.
