  1. I havent lost any weight since I started eating mushie. I'm frustrated too!:)

I gained a quick 6lbs when I started mushies! Dr assured me it was totally normal and it would be gone before I knew it. He was right (as much as I didn't believe him at the time)! Something about how your body is in starvation mode with the liquids, so when it gets the "real food" it tries to hold onto every calorie. Once it realizes you aren't starving, it will let go of the weight. Frustrating as heck though huh :scared2:

  2. I can tell you I DEF went through that! I had my surgery 12/16/09 and was hungry that day! (lucky me didn't swell up like most people lol) I was supposed to be on 1 week Clear Liquids, then 1 week full liquids, 1 week purees/mushies, 1 week soft food, then regular foods. At my post-op 1 week and 2 days post surgery, the dr told me i was healing wonderfully and gave me permission to move on to purees the next day. I could've kissed him. He would not give me a fill for 6 weeks so that I was totally healed. Bandster hell is definitly well...hell. Try hard to stick to your dr's orders, and if you are frustrated, do something. Call someone, post or chat on here, clean something (ewwww), just distract yourself as much as possible.

  3. I have alot of problems with full and too full as well. All I can offer is to slow down eating...wait longer in between bites and really "listen" to your body. Alot of people get signals, and so do I, but they are kinda inconsistent. Most of the time it is a few hiccups for me. But sometimes those don't happen and I'll just start to feel the tightness (almost feels like food "stuck" or going down really slow) and know it's definitly time to stop or else I will get to see my food again. Ever since my band I have never felt the old feeling of full. As for your throw-up episode, I personally would baby it for a while. Try drinking something HOT to reduce swelling. I've also heard of taking some liquid benedryl (sp?) too for the swelling/irritation, though I really have not tried it. Also don't jump right back into regular foods if you still aren't feeling hungry or are feeling that stuck feeling. Try hot liquids and Soups and mushies until that feels better. There seems to be a really fine line between full and UH-OH!

  4. Hi all...just checking in. I still don't know if there is going to be a funeral or service for Jeff. I've been so stressed lately and the scale is sure showing it! I've eaten better and been exercising more than ever, and have GAINED weight. This stresses me even more because of the Labor Day Challenge and I have to lose 11lbs (now 12-12 1/2) in less than 6 weeks. I hate to fail :scared2:.

I found out today though that something terrible happened to my husband's cousin yesterday. The poor family has already been through so much too. They lost their 10yr old son 7 years ago when he got the flu and died because of a heart condition they did not know he had. Now yesterday the dad died in a helicopter accident. All that is left now is my husband's cousin and their youngest son. It just breaks my heart because I know that she is still not doing well from losing her son 7 years ago and now her husband is gone too (he was only like 39). If any of you are religious people' date=' please just keep the Dicksons in your prayers.[/color']

Ok...sorry it was a seaplane accident. My MIL can't get a story straight to save her life!

  6. ((((ANNE)))) So good to hear you are on the mend! Sorry it has been such a rough road for you though. You'll have to let us all know about what it's like with RNY...just in case my band ever (dare I even speak it??) has to come out.

Leigha-glad to hear that your friend seems to be doing better.

    Christie-yay for the loss!

Karen-I am def not the right person to ask about unfills...sorry. I hope that it either gets looser for you or that just a teency weency unfill will do it.

Lovin-doesn't it feel good to eat only the smallest little bit at a party and be ok with it?

Me-well, it's been kind of a roller coaster here. My PA called back and wants me to call her Weds and if I am still all burpy she want's to give me a slight unfill. I am so hesitant because I worked so hard to lose what I have lost and don't want to gain :smile2:, but on the other hand I don't want to do myself or my band any harm. I can eat just fine, I just keep burping burping burping and it's acidy. I went to an amusement park yesterday though and had NO worries about fitting on the rides :bolt:. I found out today though that something terrible happened to my husband's cousin yesterday. The poor family has already been through so much too. They lost their 10yr old son 7 years ago when he got the flu and died because of a heart condition they did not know he had. Now yesterday the dad died in a helicopter accident. 7. Did you have any education classes prior to your surgery? You really need to follow your doctors orders if you want the band to help you. It sounds as if your mind is not ready for this lifestyle change. Only 5 days after surgery and your already cheating? For your health you should listen to your doctor.

That and I really think you took this the wrong way. All it was was a question asked not knowing your situation totally. Some people are not given any education prior to surgery. I personally did not see this as a lecture, but a question...nothing more, and maybe you took it so badly because you are feeling guilt. Again...I avoid drama like the plague, but if you are putting out there for the world to see, you have got to be ready to expect all kinds of answers whether they are the ones you want to hear or not. We are not all VULTURES here and I have always found people to be supportive, but just like in life you are not always going to get the answers you are looking for and it's not anyones fault when you don't.

  8. If you are having major issues sticking to the diet then call your surgeon and see if he is happy for you to advance the diet. You just trusted him with your life so you should continue at this stage of the healing process to trust him (or her).

I don't normally like to get in the middle of "drama", but this is so right. I never once cheated on my 2 week pre-op liquids (as miserable as it was) and I was given 1 week clear, 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies, 1 week soft, then normal food after 1 month. I was, like you seem to be, a quick healer. At my post-op check-up which was 1 1/2 weeks after my surgery I explained to them just how hungry I was and was given the go ahead to skip the last few days of the full liquids and move to mushies/purees. I personally would not have moved along in the diets if I was not given the green light by my surgeon. If I were an assuming person, I would also think that you went to Mexico because you are a self-pay and why would you want to spend all that money and then possibly do yourself some harm. If you are going to "cheat" (which before I get jumped on I definitly do not condone), try doing purees instead of eggs and onions. If you do have access to your surgeon, call them and explain to them what is going on and you could possibly even have their blessing.

  9. I'm listening! I woke up the other night coughing/choking too. Now ever since then I keep burping acid to the top of my throat (and food if I ate anytime soon). There isn't heartburn for me...just the acid. Dr prescribed prilosec 3 weeks ago because i was having heartburn, but it isn't helping this acid thingy. Hope it goes away for both of us soon! (btw I had an upper GI before the dr prescribed the meds and it showed everything was ok with the band and it was not too tight and that in fact I could use a small fill) So confusing!

  10. Karen-YAY VS!!! Maybe someday I will get there...but the girls don't want to shrink...just sag.

Leigha-I was wrong...looked at my bottle and it is Prilosec not Prevacid.

The acid is still there. It doesn't hurt, just keep burping acid and if I ate anytime soon food will come up to the top of my throat too. I haven't woke up choking since that one night though. Plus I've been drinking a new Protein Shake and made stuffed peppers which I haven't had since the band and I ate them 2 days in a row right when all of this started. I'm hoping somehow if i just baby it for a few days and quit drinking the new shake that it will go away. Not sure if the initial choke episode could still be giving me trouble and it will get better. I finally did call the PA today, but haven't heard from her yet (Thursdays are surgery days). Have any of you all experienced reflux and it got better?

  11. (((((BOBBIE))))) Nice to zee your face :tongue2:

Hiya to our 2 newbies :) I am 7 months post op now. The first few months were blah , but now with restriction I can see why people love their band! I work for ALDI as an Admin Asst. (it's ok) I've been married to a great guy now for a little over 7 years and we have 2 cats a lizard and a flying squirrel...so no room for kiddos. I started out with horrible PCOS and pre-diabetes and high triglycerides (sp??), and now take ZERO medications for it all

Ok I think most of you know that I was struggling with heartburn and had an upper GI and was told everything was ok. Well...last night I ate a few chocolate covered soy Beans right before bed  and woke up about an hour later coughing from the acid reflux and my stomach/throat making frog like sounds :mad2:. I've been taking the Prevacid 2x daily. Hoping I just made a mistake eating that chocolate right before laying down. The heartburn is kinda kickin my butt again today too. My mother sure raised a worrier!

  12. Jayden & Donna-Welcome to our little group (clique???) I can't wait to hear all about your journies! And yes I think that small goals are the way to go. They seem so attainable that way.

Leigha-that is a GREAT idea for the french fry maker thingy!! It looks so yum . I have been praying that your friend makes whatever choice is best for him as well and thinking about you!

Christie-so glad to hear that Steve has not totally abandoned you!

Denise-I say it's a combo of TOM and sickness...you'll get on the scale next week and it will be gone (the power of positive thinking )

Shad-PRINCIPAL SHAD :bolt:You would've hated me. lol I was honor roll, but was always skipping. Congrats and remember to save time for YOU! And retail therapy is so nice now huh?

Karen-wow so close to your goal! You go girl lol

Bob-are you lost in your uncut grass??? did the rats get you?? lol

    Anyone I missed---HI!!! :)

  13. Just like everyone said...don't beat yourself up! I was lucky (unlucky??) enough to heal very quickly, like it seems you are, and I was hungry the evening after surgery. I was so mad!! I thought I would be so swollen I wouldn't even want to eat at first and the post-op liquids would be so easy :(. My dr did allow me to progress a little faster on the post-op diet (moved to mushies like 2 1/2 days sooner) because of this (thank GOD), but I know that until that first fill I was eating more (bigger portions and more calories) than was recommended. Even after the first fill there was not a whole lot of relief, but it does happen. Just try your best to make good choices and to exercise. I ended up losing weight through bandster hell, just not at the rate I am losing now. You will get there. Just always believe in yourself because YOU CAN DO THIS!!

  14. So proud of you for not giving in !!! What you are going through was (to me anyways) the hardest part about being banded so far. Just stick with the recommended diet because that is what is best for you and for your healing right now, but once you get further along you can treat yourself! My Dr. suggest the 3-bite rule for "cheating". Take only 3 bites, but really chew them and savor them and enjoy them...and he is right (usually except TOM) after 3 bites the insane craving is gone and I can stop and not eat that whole piece of cake. And remember...if you know you are going to treat yourself, try to cut back on calories at your other meals that day and try to up your exercise too. To me (and my Dr.) there should not really be guilt involved with treating yourself once in a great while (not all the time though)

  15. What was the date of your surgery?

How healthy did you/do you eat?

    How much do you exercise?

    How much have you lost?

Are you happy with your results?

    just curious :]

    Surgery-12/16/09

Diet-I eat a world better than I did before, but I do not deprive myself (I allow myself a bite or two of bad things once in a great while)

Exercise-I fell off the wagon for a while, but am just getting back on. I have been walking/jogging at LEAST 1 mile everyday and then sometimes riding my bike along with that

Weight Lost-I am 5'4" and started off at 248..when I last weighed myself I was 189 (I won't change my ticker until "official weigh in day" of Monday) so that's 59lbs

I would so do this again! If you would have asked me during "bandster hell" I may have said no, but this has been truly life-changing for me, and it's only going to get better!

  16. Just as everyone suggested...I would try OA. It is free and then everyone there would know exactly how you feel. When you feel like you want to binge, try going on the chat here or if you do start going to OA maybe you could call someone there. It is an addiction, just like alcohol or drugs, and that is why those people have "sponsers" to talk them out of going back to old habits when they are under pressure.

  17. I think that I am going to sign up for a 5k in October. Most of it will be walked at a very brisk pace (because I KNOW I can walk it), but I am going to try and jog some. Plus it's in Punxsutawney! I love that town. I don't know why, but it just makes me smile when I look around and everything has groundhogs on it! (I know I am amused easily) Plus I can threaten Phil that he better not see his shadow next year :). I can't believe how much I just ate for dinner. Now I feel like crap and keep hiccaburping. Dumbass. Maybe next month is the right time for a tiny fill.

  18. Oh my gosh! I just noticed my ticker. 25 is normal BMI range isn't it? I'm "normal" !

Hmmm...that is still questionable...define "normal" especially since you still talk to us . You are doing awesome!! CONGRATS! And congrats to all you century markers.

Karen-congrats on the 6lbs of fat

Shad-Congrats on the promotion. Yay more new clothes!!

I must read this link that is funny, but for now have to go to work :). Later Gators!

  19. I've never used the Protein Shots, but heard from quite a few bandsters that they are too sweet and they mix them with Water to dilute them some. I may be wrong on this, but I believe the Large Allergan band is 14cc's. And as for the gradual fill of your band, I think that all dr's do that. I'm not sure of the exact reason though, but what I do know is I am happy that my dr does it that way because I know that after each fill I have had it was like learning what to eat all over again. I don't think my body would have tolerated 1 huge fill and I can think of a few people that can only handle like 0.1 or 0.2 cc's at a time. Everybody is different though :grouphug:. Hope at least some of this helps you!
