  1. I can't seem to get more then 800 calories a day......and I'm not loosing any weight. Tonight for dinner I measured out 3 oz of turkey breast and one cup of sauted mixed veggies. Took me 45 minutes and I couldn't eat it all. And now I'm so stuffed I hurt. Burping, sliming. Could I be too tight? It's been almost 3 weeks since my fill. The first week I lost 5 pounds and last week 1 pound. This week I'm up 4 pounds. My doc said if I haven't lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks to come back for another fill. I don't know if I can possible be any tighter! I was banded 11/16/09. Lost 17 before the surgery and only 4 since.

    Can't Get Enough Calories

sue n me - thank you very much for your response. No - I was not getting enough Water. I only drink one cup of coffee per day and the rest water, but not nearly enough!!! I've gone back to being more aware of my water intake and have now lost 2 pounds since I first posted my question. I've also become much better at what I can and can't eat.....I think my two biggest problems have been getting used to the new restriction (I did have an agressive one) and not drinking enough. I'm feeling much, much better and more in control of my eating! PS: Started adding the WII fit to my work out regimen and it's really a lot of fun! Boxing gives you a great work out!

    Can't Get Enough Calories

Thanks everyone......I do know that I am not drinking enough water! I'm working on that and I've added an extra protein drink and v8 to my daily intake.

    Not Eating Enough?

Is it possible to eat too little and not loose weight? I was averaging about 500 calories per day and not loosing weight. Take into account my exercise, my net calories were about 200. My clothes are bigger and I'm down 2 sizes, about to go down another but my scale is not moving. Last week the doctors office recommended I eat 800 to 1000 cals per day. Should I just stay away from the scale?
  5. I had my surgery 11/16/09, recieve 1.5 cc on 12/3/09 and on 1/12/10 I received my first "real" fill. I wanted agressive and he gave me 3.5 cc which was too much and removed .5 cc. I'm now officially tight after 8 weeks post banding. Everything I eat, with the expection of liquids and Beans causes me to hurt and burp....no vomiting, but I'm stubborn and won't do it - most likely I'd feel better if I did. So, is this my learning curve time? Eat slower, chew longer.........from what I can tell, the burping and sliming is caused by clogging the opening between the pouch and the stomach......is this true? Or am I just too tight? I'm finally loosing weight so I really don't want to be looser and I'm not hungry. But I just tried to give blood and my Iron is down - this has never happened before and I don't want to loose my hair!!! BTY - I always eat my Protein first - but that's only about 4 nickle sized pieces before I start to hurt! Any advice from you pros?
  6. Thanks - that's what I thought. And I too like my band tight!

    What do you say?

Have you told people you got banded? I'm a pretty open person, so when someone asks how I've lost my weight - I tell them. And the response back is usually great.....either someone needs to loose weight or they know someone that does, they will ask lots of questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. But some of my friends cringe when I talk about it. They feel it's a very private, personal procedure and I shouldn't talk about it......they also feel it's rude when someone even mentions that I've lost weight. Three years ago I quit smoking and I tell anyone who asks how I did that.....so what's the difference? What do you say?
  8. Ha - speaking of shoes.....I've fallen off one pair twice - they're just too big! They flop around on my feet and twice I've forgotten to "hang on" with my toes and boom - down I go! Not a pretty sight. LOL
  9. Yeah - you'll get shorter! My husband is 2 inches taller then me, but when we sit......I'm "taller". As your butt gets smaller, you'll sit lower in a chair, in your car, etc. Funny isn't what we have to look forward to? I notice I don't have to get too far into the car now before I can close the door! I can judge my weight loss by how much my "hip" hangs out before I can close the car door! HEHE:lol:
  10. I average 500-800 per day and I'm just fine with that. I track my food intake and my exercise on Livestrong.com. I always eat my protein first and I really stay full for long periods of time........
  11. What is this “sliming” stuff and what makes it happen? If I've eaten too much or didn't chew very good - I get this slimy stuff. What could it be?

    Fills and frequency Question

I don't see why you'd be locked in......I would think that once you are approved.....you're approved. I really wouldn't know since I paid for mine myself. I've learned that after banding care is far more important then before!!!

    Fills and frequency Question

I was banded 11/16/09 and had my first fill 12/3/09 during my post surgery check-up (1 1//5 CC) because I felst I was eating too much. Had some restriction, but could pretty much eat what I wanted – just small quantities. Went for my second fill on 1/12/10 and had gained 2 lbs! Yikes. He suggested a more aggressive fill and I said OK. Filled me with 3 1/5 CC, which was too tight, removed the half and it’s been great. Can’t eat solids in the AMs, but do pretty well the rest of the day. I’ve lost a total of 28 lbs, 5 of which happened in the last week! I hate that I was 8 weeks post surgery before I actually felt real restrictions. Bread and pasta are my demon foods and until last week’s fill – I could still eat them; now, not so much. So I now LOVE my band – just wish I had been more restricted, longer. Here’s the other thing – my doctor is a general surgeon that also does the lap band (no other bariatric surgery) and it is only about 5% of his business. So getting in to see him isn’t a problem. At my support group, people who have been to surgeons that pretty much only do bariatric surgery have a really hard time getting in for fills and most times it’s the PA doing the fills and they don’t even see the doctor. My coordinator talks about some surgeons hating to do the fills and would like to “farm” them off to someone else……I’m trying to talk my GP into learning how to do them so that I can just go see him…he’s someone that I’ve been going to for years and feel very comfortable with. BTY – what is this “sliming” stuff and what makes it happen?
  14. I guess maybe I should have said "average" 2 pounds per week. But I had done WW for years and used to average 2 per week. I also track my food intake and my exercise through the Livestrong.com website. I also have the application on my phone. So if I eat it, I count it!
  15. My questions: 1.) Is 49 pounds a good amount to lose in the first 4 months? I feel like I did not do very well. I also know its 49 pounds over the holidays very cool. Very good weight loss - look at it this way, you are 25% of the way to your goal! I had my surgery in November and had lost about 18 pounds at my 2 weeks check up. Went for my fill last week and I was up 2 pounds after the holidays. The more you have to loose the faster it can go at first. But I'd say you're doing great. I just can't beleive you haven't had a fill yet..... 2.) What is the first fill like? It depends on how your doc does the fill. Mine has me sit up and drink Water (guzzle like you would a cold beer on a hot day) and he fills me as I'm drinking. When I start burping up a little water........he stops. Easy as pie. I did get a little over filled and he had to remove some - but no biggy. My doc also deadens the port area - no pain. 3.) How many Calories do you eat per day? Before the fill - about 1200 now only about 500 and most of that is Protein stuff. After I exercise - I'm at about 200 net calories per day. But here's the thing - I have always been very careful of what and how much I eat. I've reached an age that only the smallest amount of food will allow me to loose weight. So the band helps me with the how much and helps keep me full for long periods of time. The what to eat I have down pat.......the difference is if I want a whopper now - it's not going to happen - just can't eat that stuff any more. 4.) How do you handle stalls? With a fill. My doc says if you stop loosing weight, it's time for a fill. If you get a fill and still don't loose any weight in 4 weeks and the band is tight - you need to look at what you are eating. I've known people who have had the band and threw up almost the entire time.....because they just couldn't or wouldn't controll the types of food they ate. My frustration is that I was 8 weeks post surgery before I had any real restrictions. Before this fill, I could eat anything.....just slowly and in smaller quantities. I beleive the 18 lbs I loss had more to do with my pre-sugery liquid diet versus the band. I'm very, very happy now with my restriction! 5.) What is your weight loss like... Pounds per week? Can't help you there. Like I said, I belevie I lost most my weight before my band.......but lost 5 pounds last week after my fill. But, my goal is and will continue to be, 2 pounds per week. Once again, everyone is different.......and I think it really has to do with how much you might need to loose. I need to loose 100 and if I can do that at 2 lbs per week, I'll be a very happy woman.

    Question....

I'm not sure......I had my surgery 11/16/09 and had a very small fill (1 1/2cc) at 1st check-up. And I was restricted some what - but not really - I actually managed to gain 2 pounds over the holidays. Had my first "real" fill last week (3cc) and boy can I tell the difference - I"ve lost 5 lbs already. I wish I had been this restricted all along. I'm now 9 weeks post surgery and just now really feeling the restriction. Before I could eat just about anything, but in very small quantities - but not now! I keep track of my calorie intake and fitness on Livestrong.com and basically I'm down to 200 calories per day after exercise. I'm really working at getting my protein in!
