  1. Part 2 (lol)

As for the water, the bare min. you HAVE to have is 32 ozs according to my nutritionist. And you're doing excellent if you can put down 64. So don't beat yourself up, shoot for 32 and if you hit that by mid day try for even just 12 more or so. I know it's really hard for me too. I'm having a really hard time swollowing water and I think it's because it's in sips. I seem to be swallowing more air than anything. So I just take large "sips" and I'm doing better today. So you might be just swallowing too much air and that would explain the hiccups/burps. oh, I also bought this 40 oz or so water bottle type thing that has a sip sort of thing like a straw but there is no straw. I have to tip the bottle to my face to drink unlike when they have straws but the mouth piece really helps me get water in w/out air and I can drink well with that. It's all about figuring it out. Crazy.

  2. 15 way to go!!!

Today is when I start to try getting down the 65grams of protein. I get some from no fat cottage cheese (1/4 cup) and fat free greek yogurt (1/4 cup) and then protein shake. However, don't use so much water. Make like a pudding, you might be able to get it down faster. Just blend your shake stuff w/part skim milk (I use unsweetened almond milk-yum!) and a couple of ice cubes, it makes like a pudding. But drink it rather fast so the protein doesn't break down.

The strangest thing, when I'm full my nose starts to run. And yesterday I was sneezing! Crazy. But I heard that could happen or you get hiccups. Sort of like the "sorting hats" (harry potter reference) of Lap Bands. LOL

Yes! Thank you by the way for recommending that! I took my travel pillow and my neck is so grateful to you!! I do have to say, you really won't get much sleep in the night during your hospital stay. You WILL want to get up and walk around. The pay off is instant. I was so lucky that several of us bandsters were all in the same wing, like 7 or 8 of us and we all jockey'ed around the nurses' station w/our IV's. LOL I'm sure it was quite a sight to see but trust me, WALK WALK WALK! It will feel so very good. I had to stay in my lovely hospital gown but they gave me another to cover the backside. I did sneak on undie wear just in case. Good luck bansters!!! Ya'll are going to do great!!
  4. I totally feel your pain! I had/have the same restrictions. 2 week liquid pre-op and then 4 weeks liquid post. My nutritionist says 2 weeks liquid then doc says 4. WTH? Then I see here most docs say 1 week liquid post op and then so on. I'm so confused too. I know my surgeons informational packet said that you should get off the liquids as soon as you get the green light. The reason being is that liquids pass right threw the "hour glass" of stomachs that we now own. And then you never get that "full" feeling that only solids could do that. So we should get off the liquids soon so we can actually utilize the band for what it is for...losing weight and feeling satiated. Hope that helps.

    Very Frustrated!!

To lose the weight fast, do 2 low car/low cal protein shakes a day and a healthy low carb meal for dinner. I think it should be lunch when you eat a meal because you have more opputunity to burn those calories versus eatting at dinner then going to bed but that's up to you. Hope that helps. Don't give up! I"m sorry about your insurance but before you drive yourself crazy you should really find out forsure that they will deny you for losing or gaining. That way you kmow forsure your limits. Good luck!
  6. Nice to meet you!

I'm feeling a little weak but I'm in no more pain so that's good.

Yeah, the shoulder pain is annoying.

I agree about the water. Have you had the tight feeling in your breast bone area yet? But we *have* to drink drink drink! The last thing we need is to be dehydrated.

Yes, I'm still swollen and I'm down now 23 lbs. OMG. That's way too much don't you think? Since the 8th of Dec. I"m down 23 lbs. That's too much. I know I shouldn't complain but I want it to be in a healthy manner. I see my surgeon tues. so we'll see what happens.

Congrats on the 13!! There's no where but down from here. ;-)

What sort of excersise program are you going to do? I heard/was told that if you start exersising as your losing wieght you can cut down on the unsightly skin. I think I'm going to keep walking and maybe light arm weights. I don't know.

Hope your having a great day!

    December Delights 2009

I posted this on another thread but I wanted to get your opinions. "I am so glad this thread was started! I had my band installed 12/22. So I'm 4 days post op. I was on a strict 500 calories/2 protein shakes a day for 2 weeks for pre-op diet. Now the rules are for the week of post op is NO protein, just clear liquids. I"m dying here! I did cheat, I eat 1 bite of scrambled egg yesterday morning. It wasn't even a big bite. I'm worried to screw up my band like ya'll are saying but OMG, my stomach hurts so bad. It's hunger pains, not surgery pains. Then after my post op visit that I have with dr. which is not till tuesday, his rules are clear liquid w/protein shakes for 4 more weeks. Then after that I can to to mushies. I'm seriously...about to lose it. I started this journey at 293 on Dec. 8th and today, what 18 days I'm down to 273. Is this normal? 20 lbs in 18 days? I'm worried it's not healthy. And what happens at 4 weeks of just liquid? At that point I"m just pulling an "oprah" with her liquid diet in the 80's. Anyone can drop a ton of weight on the liquid diet but is it healthy? Also, I don't understand why some docs say 1 week after operation it's ok to eat mushies but then docs like mine say 4 weeks before mushies. I"m looking for a healthy balance."

    Question for Women ONLY

It's the anesthetics. In my preop paperwork Doc warned his female patients that we may start some spotting or mensus very early for the month. Don't worry. I would however use other contraceptions until your sure your depo is working. Last thing you need right now is a baby!
  10. Sweet Pete

    Ummmm....Is this normal? ...

That's great to know! I'm having these issues too. I"m 3 days post op and I'm surprised I have to go at all. So, glad to hear this is somewhat normal.
  11. I am so happy I've read this thread! I'm day 2 post op and all I keep thinking is "why am I such a loser that I can't even do this like normal people, no...I have to go have major surgery". Ugh. I'm walking/pacing around the house...this gas is killing me. I have 8 incesions (lap band, gall bladder removal & hernia) and they don't hurt. I'm not even taking the percocit but at night and in the a.m. It's just the gas...I'm walking and taking the gas-x but OMG...make it stop. I am glad to know this too will pass...I'm just counting down the mins to when it does! LOL
  12. The post op liquid is pure hell. I can not agree more. But you gotta just stick with it. You gotta do this for yourself. This is your chance to prove to yourself that you can be successful. It really does do wonders for your psychy. It gives you that umph you need to know that you WILL be successful at your new life. You've got to remind yourself that this isn't just about shrinking your liver, it's about investing in your health for the rest of your life. Good luck, you CAN do this!!

CONGRATS to our Christmas Eve Bandsters!!! LOL Same here. I told my son that maybe we don't have to make a ton of cookies tonight and maybe leave some crystal lite instead of milk this year. Do you think my son will figure out who santa really is? LOL I'm on day 2 post op and wow does my left shoulder and neck hurt. It's just really achey. And my guts sound like WWIII in there. It's terrible. It sounds like I'm starving to death but I'm not hungry what so ever. My family is sitting around having ham, potatoes, greens...good stuff. But I don't even want a bite. Question: Do you all feel like you have heart burn? Or like something is stuck? I chewed my B complex tablet (that thing was HUGE) and since then I feel like something is stuck so I keep drinking but it still hurts a little.

    Food restrictions

I really think this list is "at first". Once you find your sweet spot which can take to up to a year, your pouch will be able to tolerate about 1/4 cup of food. Thats when you'll be able to digest a little better. You just gotta remember to chew chew chew. Also, every doc. is different, like mine says NO dairy product ever...like ever. Not even almound milk or soy because it's a slippery slope to dairy which = weight gain. So everyone is different, you just have to be patient. It's hard, I know.
  15. Hey girl, just thinking of ya! Hope your surgery went well! The staff at St. Francis are wonderful! Merry Christmas and happy re-birthday!!!

    Anesthesia

Please don't use this as an excuse not to change your lives. Believe me, I was looking for all excuses and justifications as to NOT have the surgery. I felt they were rational fears but really, people do this EVERY single day; either by design or election. They are fine.

    25% removed?

I didn't see that stat either. Interesting. I'm curious to know how many of that 25% is allergic to the materials, how many of those got their bands by a so-so surgeon and how many of those people didn't follow the rules or protacol. There are so many other circumstances. And I do appreciate the companies honesty of their study. That has sparked my interest about it. Although to late to change my mind now since I got banded yesterday. LOL I hope that my band stays in and I'm sucessful. Oh and speaking of other circumstances, do you all know of people who weren't successful with the band and that's why they had it taken out? I personally know like 5 people, all women who've had the band but almost killed themselves because they stuffed that pouch until it almost exploded. That's shocking to me and scares the hell out of me. I don't want to be that person.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hi all! I was just banded yesterday, Dec. 22, 2009. I know that I was so curious about the process and was looking for people who had recently been there done that so I know you must be feeling the same. I've blogged my surgical experience if you'd like to check it out. A Girl Named Sweet Pete: Lap Band surgery recovery Also, to answer your questions about pre-op diet. Please please take this seriously!! My doc required I lose 30 lbs prior. And I just "couldn't" do it. Then Dr. threatened that he wouldn't do the surgery if I didn't lose 15 lbs during the 2 week liquid diet. Talk about stressed out!! He planned to weigh me the day before the scheduled surgery and make his decision then. OMG! I freaked out for two weeks. I cried and excersised and didn't cheat once. It was not worth it. Please do what your doc requires and really try. Don't do what us fatty's always do and make every excuse in the book as to why "I can't". You need this surgery, don't mess it up like I almost did. I ended up losing surgeons required amount and a few extra but it wasn't worth the stress. Good luck to ya'll, you can do this!

    Woo-hoo - Today's the day!

    Self deception

DON'T CHEAT!!! I didn't do so great on my pre-liquid diet where I was supposed to lose 15 lbs in 2 months, so when I went in to see surgeon on Dec. 11th he threatened to NOT do my surgery! I freaked out. I needed to lose 15 lbs on my liquid diet in less than 2 weeks. I had to wait until the day before my surgery was scheduled whether it was a go or no. That was today and I was really really stressed for 2weeks. I got the call this afternoon that it was a go. But it's not worth your surgeon denying you your surgery. Also, I have heard of some surgeons cutting you open then not banding you because it's obvious you didn't lose weight and your liver is still fatty. Please be careful and don't sabatoge yourself.

    December Bandsters 2009

Good luck tonight!! Gosh that's got to be hard! Take gum and just chew chew chew! LOL Do what ever works. Yeah, Dr. Oh is hard core! He is like...I don't even have words for him. LOL Anyone who makes people cry on a regular basis is just hard core. LOL I promise to let you know how it goes. That's IF I have the surgery. Dr. Oh wants me to do a "weigh in" on monday to see if I've lost enough. I hope I can give him 20 so he'll do the surgery. We'll see. Then the surgery is tuesday. I'm so excited to go on with it!! Let's do this. I can't take just liquid diet anymore....I'm dying here. :smile2: Have fun tonight and get you mind off stuff!:wink2:

    December Bandsters 2009

I know right! My doc's protocol is 4 weeks clear liquid post op and then 2 to 3 weeks mushies. He's pretty hard core. Oh and no dairy...ever. Not even soy milk or almond milk nothing. He believes that once you start with that it's a slippery slope to a milkshake. LOL No seriously, he is adamit about the dairy. Oy. So basically I'll be on clear liquids for 6 weeks. Oh help me, what did I sign up for? I almost had a weak moment tonight. See, I've been pretty much a shut in these past 2 weeks on clear liquid diet because it's so hard to be out and about and be starving; 1) all the resteraunts/food places and 2) if I"m caught somewhere for a long time, what the heck am I supposed to eat. It's not like 7-11's have shakes in a cooler like Red Bull. But tonight we went to a neighboring town (30 mins drive) to shop at a specific store. Well this store was in the same mini mall as a pizza place, mexican rest, & chinese and the parking lot had burger king, dairy queen. I"m starving and I was this --- close to saying, just one meal..one meal. But instead I tossed the family in the car and said "lets go, NOW!" and raced home. I'm now sucking on a SF popsicle. Ahhhhh...nectar of the gods.:smile2:

    Protein

I only drink EAS Myoplex. I've researched the heck outta of this stuff and so has my spouse on my behalf. We found that the other stuff has a lot of calories for the amount of Protein you get. Like the Atkins has only like 15 grams of protein for 110 calories or something like that. When the Myoplex Lite is 20g of protein for 170 calories but it's also low in carbs and sugar. So that's where you have to watch everything on the labels. I have 8 more shakes to go before my surgery and I've survived on EAS alone. We can't do add ins or anything. My doc is pretty strict. But I do feel really full on the EAS so I'm not going to crazy. Don't sip your shakes, you should have it finished in less than 10 mins or else your "nibbling" and your going to stay hungry. I found with the vanilla shake you can add coconut extract w/a little pineapple juice (just a little like an oz due to high sugar) and it makes a pina calada. Also, add a little pumpkin spice to a vanilla powder and some cinnamon and you'll get a pumpkin drink. That's yummy! Especially around this time of year when everyones eatting yummy stuff. In the mornings I have decaf powder to a choc. shake w/cinnamon and make my own starbucks type shake. You can do this! Just gotta get creative and think about your favorite foods and spend some time thinking about how you can alter a shake to mimic that flavor. I'm still thinking about to make a shake taste like BBQ or a good steak. LOL

    weepy

Don't let how people are reacting to your life choices get you down! They just are worried that you are going to change or the box they had you in is going to change and some don't know how to deal with that. They don't know what they are going to have in common with you anymore. Or they are so used to having the relationships run one way and here you go changing it up. My step brother had bypass years ago and I remember his brothers had a really hard time with it. Because they were so used to him being their "follower". When their friends didn't want to hang, the fat brother always was available. Then when they had kids, the fat brother was always home to babysit. It was interesting to see how much of a hard time they had with him changing, they felt left behind. Just like some spouses do in this situation. As for being sad about food...of course you are going to be sad about it! You had a relationship with food. It was your cruch for something else and now you don't have the cruch. You need to replace how you deal with those feelings that you once stuffed. Go for a walk or go to the gym...do something, don't sit and let your feelings fester. The weightloss is only a fraction of the battles we have. Hugs to you and CONGRATS on the wieghtloss, you can do this!!!:smile2:
