What to Stock up on
ElizabethNYC replied to mjo3393's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My saving grace were my gas-x strips!!! I would stock up on those. Make sure you have your Protein ready and make sure you test a few just so you know you like it. My doctor had strict guidelines on what kind of protein we could have (high in Fiber so that I didn't have to drink 2 a day, low in carbs) so muscle milk didn't work for me. I would check into that first before you buy anything. Also make sure you have your vitamins!!! Another thing that saved me because I was getting sick of Water, sugar free kool aid!! Hope that helped and good luck!!! -
When will paperwork be sent for approval?
ElizabethNYC replied to Linds86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My paperwork was sent out once they had 6 month diet history, nut evaluation surgeons evaluation and psych evaluation. I guess it really depends on the office though. I would give them a call and check! -
Having Surgery while having your "Monthly"?
ElizabethNYC replied to SDTeaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank goodness I had mine the week before BUT my friend who had the surgery was on hers and they just put some pads under her during and after surgery. -
Considering the Lap Band
ElizabethNYC replied to Nume31's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now I am on day 3 of my "mushy" phase of the diet. I can eat scrambled eggs, yogurt, Beans, tuna & chicken (mushed) with some fat free mayo, I can have some mashed cauliflower fat free ricotta. That's all I can think of off my list right now lol. -
Consult - preop diet and insurance question
ElizabethNYC replied to JinTx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a some what similar problem with United Healthcare. I was told over and over that I wouldn't need 6 months of diet history (called UHC, checked our policy, spoke to my HR dept). When they sent in my paperwork I was denied because I didn't have a 6 month diet history! I was so annoyed but I got it done and now I'm banded and couldn't be happier. It looks like you have a different policy than me so I'm sure you'll be fine especially since your co workers were approved. Good luck with everything!!! -

Lap Band vs Realize Band
ElizabethNYC replied to LissaD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon only uses lapband and she said because she feels like it's more sturdy, she said to her the realize looks a bit more flimsy but that's just her opinion. I told her it didn't really matter to me so I have a lapband. -
Good luck with everything!!! Keep us posted.

Food addictions and lap band!
ElizabethNYC replied to Deidra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I am still kinda new at the lap band thing I can tell you this, right now I have no fill and I was feeling hungry at the end of my liquid diet phase (all liquids 2 weeks after surgery) now that I've moved onto my mushy phase I actually don't feel as hungry. I'm guessing as I move onto solids and get the right adjustment I will not feel hungry either. I would definitely do your research and maybe even talk to some people who have been banded longer than me. -
BMI - With or without Clothes?
ElizabethNYC replied to ATHUDDRIVER's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always weighed in with clothes on. Actually my very first weigh in they even let me keep my shoes on! But since then I've taken my shoes off. Like the previous poster has said most surgeons want you to have surgery so they will help you out on the sly :-) -
Awaiting insurance approval ~ getting cold feet :0/
ElizabethNYC replied to isabella2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! Welcome to the boards :-) My name is Elizabeth (or Liz) 27 single no kids. I was banded a little over 2 weeks ago after waiting about a year and half for this surgery. Once I had a date I had a bad case of cold feet probably up until they put me under but next thing I knew I was waking up and here I am weeks later and feeling great. As long as you follow your doctors orders you should be fine. My surgeon suggested I not get pregnant for at least a year to a year and a half after surgery but other than that there shouldn't be any problems with you getting pregnant with your band. Hope I was of some help. :-) -

Hope everyone is feeling good and doing well. I'm really excited to be onto mushy's now. Hope to hear about some surgery stories from today! -
Today is my day!!!
ElizabethNYC replied to chocolettebelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you are feeling ok!!! Make sure to walk and sip fluids when you can. Also make sure you get that protein in!! -
First off good luck with everything!! I had to do the 6 months of weigh ins BUT at first I was told by my insurance company that I didn't have to but when my surgeon's office sent everything in all of a sudden I had to have 6 months of weigh ins. Instead of appealing I just did it and honestly it was over before I knew it. Hope everything works out for you though.

Drinking before and after eating
ElizabethNYC replied to stleochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no drinking 15 minutes before a meal or 45 minutes after. Today was the first time I had to do this, it's harder than I thought! -
I'm actually having a similar problem. I thought maybe it was just still some gas stuck.

Day 3 and feeling horrible
ElizabethNYC replied to jbaker5d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain gets better and better each day. Day 2 and 3 were my worse but from there it got less and less. I'm on day 15 and still have some port site soreness and shoulder gas pain but that's it. Hope you feel better soon! -
What's the skinny????
ElizabethNYC replied to shuckybucky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I've dropped about 30 pounds from my pre liquid diet weight but then again I haven't really eaten whole foods. I am starting to feel a little hungry (hoping today is different since I start mushy's) but still loosing every few days. -

Musy Food Menu
ElizabethNYC replied to ElizabethNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both. I had a scrambled egg this morning with some cheese and it was AMAZING! Funny party is I hate eggs lol. I should of probably added that I am somewhat of a picky eater. So although most of this stuff sounds good I don't like a lot of it but then again look at what happened with the eggs.
