  1. OMG I heard about the getting stuck and read about the getting stuck. Heard the term sliming but my doctor never told me ANYTHING and I never read anything about it until it happened to me! I thought I was going to die. Almost went to the ER. I chewed my food thoroughly, or so I thought, but took my Vitamin, which I guess is rather large and then was stuck. I have never felt pain like that before. I punched my chest repeatedly, husband pounded my back like an oversized baby. Tried to drink but the Water would just come back up. Didn't know what to do for over 10 minutes. Finally gagged myself three times and got some relief and then saw it was "slime." Don't mean to gross anyone out but would rather prepare someone who doesn't know - LIKE I DIDN'T - so they don't freak and know what to do. I'll know IF it happens again what to do to get some relief. That was the most disgusting and horrifying. I quickly switched to chewable Vitamins and am swearing off bread - even though it was wheat toast, which I was told I could have! It's just not worth the risk. Where does that crap come from and does anyone have repeated episodes of this?!
  2. I have a 10 cc band and it had 4.5 cc in it from surgery. Got 1 cc in it three weeks ago and I go to the doctor next week. He will give me a fill if I want one. I am thinking I need one but as I'm still so new to all this (just banded 12/11/09) I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be "doing." I can eat 1 cup of food at a sitting and three hours later I'm hungry. So do you think I need a fill? I've only lost about three pounds in the last three weeks (though I'm losing inches as my clothes are getting smaller.) Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!
  3. The food is not making me full, but I'm not hungry either. Hope that makes sense. I feel like I could eat more but I don't. I'm doing portion control. I don't walk away hungry but I know if I had more than the cup I could eat it, maybe another 1/4 to 1/2 cup. My hungriest is lunch time. This is a typical day for me: 7:30 a.m. one egg scrambled with a sprinkle of fat free cheese, 2 slices of turkey bacon. I often only eat 3/4 of the egg. 10:30 a.m. - I'm hungry, so I have a Protein shake made with 6 ounces of skim milk and some shaved ice 12 noon - 1 cup of chicken salad made with lowfat mayo and apple cut up very teeny and mixed in the chicken salad. 1 ounce of reduced fat cheddar cheese. Sometimes I will have 2 wheat ritz crackers with this because I need the crunch. I always feel like I could eat something else with this. 3 p.m.-3:30 p.m. I'm hungry, so I have a handful of almonds, or a reduced fat string cheese stick, or a hard boiled egg. Just a little something to get me through to dinner. 5 p.m. -5:30 p.m. Dinner time. 1 cup of chili made with Beans and ground turkey and a sprinkle of fat free cheese melted on top. Once a week I might have a sugar free Jello with one tablespoon of sugar free cool whip and a scoop of Protein powder mixed in as a chocolate mousse. I only drink about 24 ounces of Water a day though.
  4. Well, maybe next time I will make the wheat toast more crispy. LOL. I did switch right away to chewables and actually no more upset stomach as I used to get with the pill. Thanks for the tip about drinking, I did not know that would make it worse and not better. I'll be sure not to do that. I suppose now that I think about it the liquid probably worked like glue. I honestly did not want it to come back up but I could get no relief and it was getting worse! So far I have been able to tolerate most things and when I feel the "hint" of anything that might feel like stuck, I just stop altogether!!! This is such a whole new life long learning experience. For the next two days I did mushies and shakes and I could feel that I was "hurt" on the inside. I'm assuming swelling.

    Chinese Food

I've had Chinese three times since being banded 12/11/09. Small portions of rice, steamed veggies, and chicken and have had no problems. I have to chew, chew, chew of course. The broccoli I cut small and chew well. I did get stuck once but I thought it was a carrot, and then just didn't eat carrots and did fine.

    August 2009 296 pounds

Yes, I'm still doing the shakes, just in the morning as a "snack."
  9. Sorry, I'm new to this board and how it works. I didn't get your message! I have lost 31 pounds since my 2 week preop. I'm kind of stalling right now. Going to talk to my doc, I think I need another fill.

  10. The surgeons office told me I should be eating 1/2 c to 1 c at meals and that by one year out a lean cuisine would be a normal portion for a meal. I can eat that now! I don't eat more than that though. They said 1/2 a sandwich should be a meal. I can eat 1/2 a sandwich and then cheese or cottage cheese or something else with it, etc. 1/2 c is not enough. If I eat at noon, I'm hungry by 3 - no way I can last until 5 or so when it's dinner time. Yet I feel if I have a snack - albeit a healthy one - I'll be cheating somehow. I suppose it's psychological at this point. Everyone says if I don't eat enough I won't lose either but I feel snacking got me into the predicament I'm in and I shouldn't eat unnecessarily, only when necessary. I'm trying not to look at food as enjoyment - that's what got me here. Food to me now is sustenance. If it's enjoyable, I will overindulge.
  11. If I have pain in my chest it means I ate too much or something is stuck. If I have a that little "lump" or uncomfortable spot right between my breasts it means I'm full. I try not to get to that point. My cue is I hiccup. If I hiccup, I know I've had enough. I suppose it is the same thing as a burp, but I don't burp (don't all come flying at me, I've never burped - it's just the way my anatomy is!) My husband was banded five days after me and he burps when he is full or had enough - that is how we know. I try to only put on my plate what I think I should be eating and stop at that amount. It also helps - at least for me - to stand up towards the end of your meal. Every time I do that, when I'm not sure if I'm full or not, I will almost always hiccup, and then I know I'm full. For instance, today for lunch I had four wheat ritz crackers, four slices of reduced fat cheese, a handful of almonds, and a slice of cheese pizza on wheat crust. I ate all the cheese and crackers, almost all the almonds, and got 3/4 of the pizza done. I didn't think I was full but someone came to the door and I stood up to get it, hiccuped, and that was it. I was done.

    Wii Fit Question

I was 326 at my highest and able to use it with no problems. I didn't know there was a weight limit!!! FYI - I have the Biggest Loser and LOVE it! You can use it with or without the balance board, too.

    Wii Fit Plus

We have Wii fit and Wii fit plus. Love them both. I got the Biggest Loser for Christmas. I REALLY like that. It's your own personal trainer. The exercises are GREAT! You can do the routines they set up for you or pick which areas you want to work on (lower body, core, upper body, etc.) You can do a short duration of 16 minutes or longer for 23. They have weigh ins and challenges, etc. They break up each routine so you don't feel like you're doing the same thing the whole time you are doing it. You can also enter your calories, etc. I'm so not motivated to go to the gym so this is perfect for me. You can use it with or without the balance board. My 10 year old daughter is even using it!
  14. I'm supposed to do 65 g of protein and having trouble with that. I eat a scrambled egg with fat free cheese (10 1/2 g) melted on top for breakfast. Have a shake mid morning for a snack (I use the one you buy at Walmart, one scoop gives you 26 g but I try to put a scoop and a 1/2 to get more protein) and then I make sure my lunch has protein (chicken, turkey, cheese, cottage cheese, etc.) If I need a snack mid afternoon I do a cottage cheese or hard boiled egg and at night I do another shake or I've taken a liking to mixing a sugar free jello with two spoonfuls of sugar free cool whip and 1/2 scoop of choc protein powder (13 g) and mixing like a mousse. Sweet and light. This menu every day gives me more than my recommended protein. I don't have to do both the shake or pudding at night and the afternoon snack but one or the other. HTH.

    1st week of January 2010

You look great, keep up the good work. I was banded on 12/11. I, too, feel like I'm losing WAY more inches than pounds and that's fine by me! Don't you find it hard when people ask how much you've lost? I don't know if I'm supposed to use my first appt. weight, my two week pre-op weight, my day of surgery weight, etc.
  16. It's late and I only read the first couple of posts on here but this happened to me too and I had horrible bleeding at my dental cleaning the other day. The hygenist and the dentist both said it was just my body reacting to the stress that it had just gone through (i.e. drastic change in diet and the surgery and recovery.) I had my surgery 12/11 so I'm only four weeks out. I am an avid brusher/flosser and have routine dental care so there was no problems there. I take all my vitamins, etc. They do not think it is a health issue at all.

    What do you eat?

I just had my first fill today. They put 1 cc into the 4.5 cc I already had in my 10 cc band. Not sure if that will work or what, we will see. For breakfast I eat two eggs scrambled or egg beaters and melt a bit of fat free cheese on top. Mid morning I have a Protein shake made with skim milk. lunch varies, it could be chili made with ground turkey, meatloaf with ground turkey, 1/2 a baked potato with steamed broccoli and fat free cheese, egg salad with light mayo, chicken salad with light mayo, etc. If I need a snack mid afternoon or before dinner I'll have a sugar free pudding or a yogurt or a piece of reduced fat cheese or sometimes I take a teaspoon of Peanut Butter. For dinner I have many of the things that eat for lunch or I will have grilled or baked chicken, steamed vegetables, etc. I'm not a big red meat eater and I don't like fish. I have begun to love my Quesadilla maker. I buy wheat wraps and make quesadilla with fat free cheese, steamed broccoli, chicken, and refried Beans. You can do it with any kind of ingredients you prefer. My husband does chili, refried beans and adds sour cream on top. At night I will have a protein shake or my new favorite thing is sugar free chocolate pudding, sugar free cool whip, a bit of Protein powder and whip it up into a mousse. Someone told me to make "ice cream" sandwiches with sugar free cool whip and chocolate graham crackers too. I'm going to try that this weekend.
