In a way I'm glad, though, it keeps me from being alone... I too didn't know that the first surgeon I was going to was out of network for me. The hospital that he operated out of wasn't. Came as a shock to me. That was completely my fault though, I should have checked instead of assuming. ______________ Chris

Hey everyone! Just passing through. Question...I keep seeing the scale coming up....keep in mind that if you are more active then before, you could be building muscle. If you are, muscle weighs more then fat! Don't get too discouraged if your clothes are feeling loose, but the scale looks like you haven't done a thing...or have actually gained. So, here's my question... How many of you are measuring? Your body is going to change in more ways then one. How many of you have more energy then before? How many of you are sleeping better at night? Count every change as a positive! Oh, and did you try water? Sometimes when our head is telling us we are hungry, we aren't. We are actually dehydrated or leaning towards that way. If you KNOW you've eaten a sufficient amount, but you keep feeling as if you are hungry (and you've waited the appropriate time after you've eaten...) try water (not any type of liquid...but plain H20). You may be pleasently suprised as your hunger pains go away.... Okay, running back to the January thread...I'm still on for next Friday! ____________ Chris

Hi ladies & gentlemen! I've had a busy week/end. Just thought I'd check in to wish all those who have had surgery, and those who will be having surgery this week, well. Speedy and as pain free healing to you. As others have been saying (and I'm sure I'll need the reminder when my time comes) remember that the first 6 weeks are for healing. Be prepared for the emotional side of making this life changing decision. You will live through it, and come out on the other side healthier, happier, and slimmer. I really want to thank those, who have been banded for coming back and sharing! It is very encouraging. Let's all try to do the same. Now, as for me. I'm 33, and live in Chicago. I've been overweight my entire life (10lbs 2oz at birth). Although, when I look back at the pictures of me growing up, I see myself as being heavy - but not really fat. However, I WAS WAY bigger then all of my friends, cousins and siblings. They were just always skin and bones. I also remember hearing the she'll stretch out of it...and the oh, she just has big bones. But, that didn't stop my mother from putting me on the yo-yo diets. So, here I stand today, 5'6" and over 300lbs. Yesterday I had my pre-op testing. Well, the rest of it. I had already had an ultrasound (gall bladder) and an upper GI (previous surgeon). Today, I find out that my EKG came back irregular (they tell me it could just be my nerves...YOU THINK????) They also tell me that my insurer is acting up again. And, they wonder why my EKG was abnormal.... Anyway, I called for an appt with a cardiologist - have to have cardiac clearance, now. Then I called my insurer - for the 500th time. Only to find out that I was approved...and that they thought my surgery date was 12/29. I explained that it will be 1/12, and it turns out that they had it set up for a completely different hospital. So, now my surgeon's office has to call and straighten that our, but apparently that's a minor detail. I'm just sitting here, shaking my head, and rolling my eyes. If you could only understand what I have gone through to have this surgery. Oh well, they can keep throwing the problems my way...because I'm determined to GET through this to the other side. Talk to everyone soon! I hope everyone is still doing well on their pre-op diets. Mine doesn't call for any change, other then the addition of a nutritional supplement drink 2x a day, then the day before surgery liquids only. Of course, I found out about all my problems when I went to pick up these drinks from the surgeon's office during what was supposed to be a quick lunch time run. Oh well....talk to you all soon. Thanks Tonya!!! Now, I'm really getting anxious. My pre-op preparation requires me to drink a special nutritional supplement twice a day for 7 days, then on the 8th day before surgery to have only liquids. I'm ready for 2007, this time around's going to be all about me. ____________ Chris

My date has changed again. But this time for the better! They moved me up. My date is now Jan. 12th (the day I wanted). So, long story short. I've gone from being scheduled in November, to tentatively scheduled for Dec. 14th, to having to change Surgeons because my insurer would not pay for me to go out-of-network. To being scheduled for Jan. 24th. To my current date of Jan. 12th. Whew...I'm just ready to get off this rollercoaster. ______________ Chris

Hi everyone...just passing through. I've finally got a surgery date with the new surgeon! I am truly happy about this, but of course, I had expected to be banded by now. Either way it goes, I'm still in it for the long haul...so I'll check back with you in a couple of weeks to let you know how I'm doing. Oh yeah, I'm now to be a January 2007 bandster. Hi Ladies and Gentlemen! Well, it's not a Monday update...but it's an update! And, in my eyes you are all doing GREAT!!! Yes, it may be a little slower then what some of you were expecting, but you are making changes. Think back to where you were before the surgery. I KNOW that you cannot tell me that you are in the same place today that you were then. Guess what...little changes still are CHANGES, and in the end - they'll all add up to something great for each one of us. Here's my perfect example...what may be one or two, 10 or 20 pounds for you equals 927.9 for this November group! Yes, NINE HUNDRED TWENTY_SEVEN AND NINE TENTHS POUNDS!!!! (Of course a few had a little jump start like Kee!) Scale victories (SV) are great. But more importantly...look to the little changes - the nonscale victories (NSV). How many of you are more aware of what you're eating (even if it's the wrong foods) then you were before? How many of you are doing more (walking, cleaning, cooking vs. carryout) then before? How many of you have noticed that maybe the scale hasn't moved, but your waist line has? And as Carol, who use to be a lurker :grouphug: has just stated, you're inspirational to those who are newly banded or still waiting there turn...such as me. One thing I've noticed, that I think we all should pay attention to, is the immediate concern following surgery about weight loss. Hi prbrooksie, don't worry you are not alone. This has been a recurring theme, from what I've seen. We all must remember that the first six weeks after surgery should all be focused towards healing. I know that after a few days (give or take a couple) everyone begins to feel better and you're ready to roll. However, feeling better and being healed are two different things. Surgery, no matter how "minor" it is, is still traumatic for the entire body. Everyone is going to respond to it differently. On top of this, you've just added a foreign body to the mix. Your internal system is still trying to figure out what the newcomer is, and what it's all about. I said all of that to say this... Until your body has fully adjusted to the changes, and has had an appropriate time to heal, any weight loss that you have is a bonus! Everyone will respond differently. Some will shed weight, some will hold steady, while some may even gain a pound or two. It will all depend on how your body reacts to the trauma... So, if you are dropping weight left and right, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You've won the jumbo bonus prize... If you've lost a few pounds here and there, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You've won the secondary prize... If you haven't lost anything, or even gained a pound or two, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You've crossed over into lapbandville, where everyone is a winner. Take your time and look around. Get to know your neighbors. Because in time (whether its a slow crawl or sprint) your weight loss is going to happen, and in the end we'll all be in the same place. Because of the age of your daughter, her activity level, and her mood swings. I would seriously take a look into what one of the earlier posters mentioned...PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Unless your doctor is aware of this, and most are not, it's a condition that is best diagnosed by an Endocrinologist. The problem with this condition, is that many doctors don't look for it until a woman is ready to begin a family, and is having some problems. While the condition actually begins with the start of puberty and gets worse with time. Catching it early and properly managing it can help prevent some of the later problems that it can lead to. Here are a few symptoms, either by themselves can be a sign of PCOS or other conditions. The more that a woman has, the more likely she could have PCOS. Some of these are hard to tell, because of her age. Many teenagers experience them just because that's the stage in life they are at. There are some, that I'm not going to list, that are based upon blood work. Ranges can be high normal to slightly above normal, but be too much for your body to handle. Which is why I strongly suggest an endocrinologist (someone who specializes in this, versus a regular family doctor who would just over look a slightly elevated result). Puberty beginning early: menstruation at 9 or 10, early physical development. Extreme emotional highs and lows Weight gain (especially if concentrated around the middle/stomach area) Painful or irregular menstruation Dark/rough Patches of skin (neck, elbows, underarms, inner thighs) Depression (leads back to hormonal imbalance) Poor memory Male pattern hair growth/loss Adult acne (for those besides OP that may be reading this) ...and more. There are several web sites that discuss this, and some contradicting theories. One that I know of that is fairly informative is Soulcysters.com, and they do have a teen section. You can do a search on PCOS or Stein-Leventhal Syndrome to learn more. I will admit, though, that from the moment you started discussing your daughter, this is what I thought. ___________ Chris

Hi Karen!!! And eeryone else!!! Now for my story...yes, you've read right...my date has been moved. Prayerfully it will be sometime in December. There's a chance it won't, because of rescheduling and the holidays. Nothing to do with me or my surgeon. My Insurer is causing us problems all of a sudden. Nothing that can't be worked out. I have a feeling their trying to delay it until next year. My policy changes some in January, and I would end up paying more out of pocket. We should have everything straightened out in a week or two, but then again, I don't know what we'll end up doing about scheduling. Not that it matters. I hadn't expected to eat during this coming Christmas/New Year season anyway. My surgeon requires 6 weeks of liquids after the surgery. Don't think you're going to get rid of me this easily, though... I'll be checking in on you from time to time! ___________ Chris

I think Fauxnaif and NewSho really hit upon it. Weight isn't the only factor, height has something to do with it too. I am in the middle.... I use to be able to cross them at a larger size then others who were much shorter then me, and while "fluffy" wearing a smaller size then me. However, at the size I am now, I couldn't do it. At the same time my bestfriend, who has me by about 5 in. in height, yet wears the same size as I do, can. As for me, I can't wait until I can comfortably cross my legs (without them sticking a mile high) again, too! _____________ Chris
