  1. I got sick of cream soup pretty fast and discovered that I could have refried beans. It was a welcomed treat...w/ cheese and enchilada sauce. some people on here say they have added gauc or sour cream.

    Popped Stitch

Well, I have not had this problem, but my doc made me wait 4 weeks post op to add back any excercise other than cardio. So I would think it would be normal to still be sore 10 days after your accident. Also, if you are in pain, you probably are not getting as much excercise as you did preinjury. I bet once you are healed, you will get back on track.
  3. So sorry to hear about your issue. I had 3.5 cc in my band at surgery and haven't had any problems. I didn't find out I had that until I went for my first adjustment last week. I got 1.5 added so now I am at 5. I wonder how they determine how much to put initially? Obviously, it didn't work for you, but seemed just right for me.

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

I want to jump in! I am a tax accountant so my goal has been to get under 200 by April 15th. If I do the Easter Challange that will help me stay on track. This morning I was up 2 lbs from Friday, but I am hoping a lot of that will come off as quickly as it came on  I didn't get to work out this weekend, so I wasn't able to offset the extra calories I ate Hopefully, a Monday weigh in will help me stay on track. This morning I was 215, but I am going w/ a starting weight of 213 b/c that is what I weighed on Friday and I need to get those off plus an additional 1-2 lbs this week!

    How long off work?

I had surgery on Wednesday. Worked from home for 6 hours on Sunday and went back to the office Monday and worked over 50 hours my first week back. I too have a desk job.

    14cc 5mls added

I had 3.5 in my band at surgery. I didn't know this until I went for my first fill. The doc always pulls out what is in to make sure there are no leaks. So I got an additional 1.5 at my first fill for a total of 5.
  7. The point of the band is to reduce your portion size. If you just stick to Protein drinks you are defeating the reason you got the band to begin with. Just introduce real food slowly back into your diet. Surely, you want to be able to enjoy a meal with friends and family and not drink a Protein Drink while everyone else is having something yummy. Just my thoughts. Do what ever works for you, but I was so excited to be able to eat real food again there is no way I would consider staying on protein drinks...In fact, I have over $100 worth of protein in my pantry that I am not sure I can finish in my lifetime!!

    Frustrated and Angry!

Sorry you are frustrated but I had to pay 12K so at least you have insurance approval.
  9. I like the GNC Whey protein as well. Unjury is my fav, but I don't think you can get it at GNC. Nectar is good, Lean Dessert is pretty good too.
  10. I don't have much experience w/ the band, but I would suggest keeping a food journal. The band is a tool to help you eat smaller portions, you must still watch what you eat and make smart choices. My doc told me that I need still need to "diet", the band is only supposed to keep me from getting hungry in between meals.
  11. I would say yes and no!!! This morning eating Breakfast with my friends I loved the lapband b/c I could barely eat 1/2 of what I would normally eat. I ate slow and enjoyed my food and conversation and the meal lasted longer than it would have preband. I got to enjoy it just as much b/c the band forces me to eat slower and therefore my meal lasts longer. However, last night after a concert w/ the same group of friends we decided we needed a late night snack. I guess I wasn't paying attention to what I was eating and something got stuck. This is the first time I experienced this and it was aweful...not to mention being out and not in the comfort of your own home. I had to excuse myself and when I came back to the table, I really wanted to eat more but I couldn't...I wasn't hungry but I really wanted another french fry!! If I had slowed down when I first started eating, I could have enjoyed myself and only had a few bites. It is definitely a new way of life that I have to get adjusted to, but I LOVE IT! I love the fact that I am able to go out to dinner with my friends and eat small portions and be FULL. Normally after a weekend like I just had, I would have stepped on the scale and been up 3-4 lbs. This morning I was at status quo. It is awesome...just takes a little while to learn the new lifestyle.

    B-day kickoff

No, I have read that on this site several times, but I have no idea what that is.

    B-day kickoff

You can do it!! I think Lapband is geared towards a 1-1.5 lb weight loss per week, but if you really try you can loose 3 lbs per week. Just DONT be disspointed in yourself if you lose 10-15 lbs!!! That is stil awesome. I would suggest determining your BMR and then adjusting your calories so you can lose 3 lbs per week...that is a 10,500 deficit. So if your BMR is 2700, your daily caloric intake should be 1200. That leaves you with a 1500 calorie deficit per day which equates to 3 lbs per week. 1500 calories x 7 days/week = 10,500 calorie deficit. (you have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 lb) Of course excercising burns additional calories...I tend to use those calories for cocktails on the weekends

    help....=)

I had mashed potatoes (really thin) a few days post op. And protein shakes the day of. It is really hard to get in enough protein if you aren't drinking protein shakes. You might want to check w/ your doc and see if you can add something other than clear liquids.

    Sports?

DUDE! calm down. I just saw your post or I would have responded earlier! Once you have healed from surgery you can continue to play hockey. I was concerned about similar things...I live in alabama so there is not a lot of hockey going on down here, but I kayak and do lots of other high adventure activities. I had asked my surgeon if I could go roller skating 3 weeks post op and he said no, but when I went for my last check up, he said, I could do what ever I wanted and that I was not limited from any activity. My advice is make an appointment and discuss it w/ your doctor.

    Carb intake?

minimeme - do you aim for 60% protein, 20 carbs, 20 fat? I really need to reduce my fat and apparently my carbs. I have been trying to hit 40 carbs, 30, protein, 30 fat...but it is usually more like 45-25-30 :scared2:

    Carb intake?

GAH! One more thing to consider. Thanks for the advise. Maybe I will add that to my radar next week :scared2:

    Cold Feet? Big Mistake?

Like most everyone else has said, losing the weight is not the main problem. It is keeping it off!! Last year I lost 17 lbs from Feb - Aug. From August to November I gained back 7 lbs. I have done this repeatedly over the past 10 years. Sometimes losing more sometimes losing less, but always it always came back. This was the straw that broke my camels back, I was tired of the never ending cycle - made an appointment in December and was banded last month. It is not a magic band that does all the work for you. You still have to watch your calories and excerise to be successful. Even now, I struggle with the fact that it took SURGERY to force me to eat smaller bites and chew my food well. Why couldn't I have just done that to begin with??? Who knows!
  19. FL Go to Post-Operation Lap-Band Surgery Q&A and click on the blue button on the left hand side of the page around the "search lapbandtalk.com" feature and it will open up a new post. Title it head hunger v. real hunger or what ever you think will catch the most attention. Then people who are interested in that topic will read and respond. PLUS I think you will get better results on the Post Op forum b/c most of the people reading have already been banded and you can get their opinions on how it affected them. I was going to start the thread for you, but it would be better if you did so you can be the Original Poster.
  20. I have been overweight/obese my entire life, but I have always been a fit fatty...if that makes any sense. The best shape I have ever been in, I did Body For Life and got down to a sort of tone size 14. You can buy the book for $20 or less and it gives very good demonstrations about strength training exercising. I am thinking about resurrecting the book!! I have always exercised 5 days a week, but it is funny how much more motivation I have now that I am seeing some downward movement on the scale. Last week I actually hit the gym twice in one day!

    Carb intake?

well I reviewed my food log for the past two weeks and may daily average was 158 & 170. Based on your signature I am about 35 lbs heavier than you. Right now I am focused on calories, fat and protein. Once I get that under control I might worry about carbs.

    Using Straws

I am drinking crystal light through a straw as I type this. I haven't had a problem w/ using straws. I tend to drink more w/ a straw which is a good thing when I am trying to make sure I drink enough water. (it may be a bad things w/ alcohol...just depends if you have a driver and the calories to spare
  23. You might benefit from starting a new thread for this one as this thread has gone WAY off topic. To share my experience about emotional eating...I was banded on 1/13/10 so I am pretty new. The band has forced me to eat smaller meals...I still snack which was something I always did preband - hungry or not. I still snack now even though my surgeon says I should be eating 3 meals a day w/ no snacks. I still get hungry in between meals and I don't know if I need another fill or if it is just because I am not eating enough calories. My doc said to keep my calories under 1000....I could NEVER have done that pre-band. I log every thing I eat (even the girl scout cookie I had today) and account for everything that goes into my mouth. The band has not taken away my "head hunger" or "emotional eating" or whatever you want to call it when you eat when you are not hungry...but it has drastically reduced my caloric intake and THAT is what causes you to lose weight....consuming fewer calories than you burn.

Have you considered a consignment shop? I haven't had much luck selling clothes at a yard sale.
