  1. Betsy, Have you ever cooked anything w/ it? I wanted to add it to a ricotta mixture when making a spinach lasagna, but I wasn't sure how it would turn out and didn't want to ruin an entire pan and never had a chance to experiment. (I'm a tax accountant and have been a bit busy the past month or so and haven't had time to do a lot of cooking) Thanks,
  2. I have put it in pudding, hummas, crystal light. I don't really care for it in hot liquids b/c the texture is wierd.

    do u?

carbonation causing band erosion wasn't in any of the literature my doctor gave me and I have read on this site posts from surgeons that say it is a myth. I have also read two books on WLS and one specifically on lapband...no where did it say carbonation will cause erosion or slippage. My sister has been banded for 4 years and I have seen her consume 6 beers over the course of a day while tailgating at a college football game and she has lost over 80 lbs and had NO problems....I chose to live my life and I like beer and diet coke...do I drink it every day? No but I might once a week or every other week.

    How did you deal?

maybe you need to top off your band. I have read several posts that as you lose the band may get a little loose. maybe a fill would help you keep your calories at the right level.
  5. Well, I have always eaten fairly healthy foods for the most part (of course there was the occasional junk food), just too much of them and too often so I chose to get the band to help w/ portion control and late night snacking. I never intended to give up chocolate or pizza for the rest of my life when getting the band. Insurance would not pay for the band b/c my BMI was too low and I had no co-morbidies. I have enjoyed being able to go out w/ my friends and split a meal, be completely satisfied and still have food left on my plate...I could have never done this before...So call me a rule breaker b/c I don't limit the foods I eat to some list. I eat what ever I want in reasonable portions...I also log all my food on lose it and keep my net caloric intake around 1100 calories...that means if I want to drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine w/ dinner, I may go to the gym before and after work to burn those calories.

    weight loss programs

I tried a few of the nutrisystem meals and I thought they were gross. Well, the breakfasts were ok, but the dinners were not appealing. I only tried 2 or 3 things. A friends had signed up for autoship and had more than she knew what to do with.

I drink about 2 cups a day and have since the day after surgery.

    Soup?

if it keeps you full than it is not a slider for you. We each have different things that work or don't work for us. someone posted today that lasagna was a slider. I got stuck when I ate lasagna!! If you like soup and you can eat a meal for 200 calories and be full until the next meal, sounds like you found a winner my only concern is the amount of sodium in canned soups if you eat them often.
  9. Right now my work schedule is crazy so I am eating Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the office. On Sundays I usually cook 1 or 2 meals and then divide those out into individual servings so I have 6 or more (me and my roommate usually make a meal out of something i've cooked before it goes in individual containers) ready to go and in the fridge for a quick fix. Yesterday I made the crockpot ranch that juliansmom posted along w/ steamed broccoli and oven roasted cajun sweet pototoes. The chicken cooked while I was out running errands, the broccoli took about 10 mins, and the sweet pototes actually took about 40 mins, but well worth it and I could do other stuff while they were baking. (only about 5-10 mins prep)

    do u?

I am 5 weeks post op and I have had diet coke and beer w/ no problems. Just depends on the individual.

    Meridia and the band.

We all have busy schedules...It is just what you consider a priority. My thoughts are if you have time to read and post on forums, you probably have time to excercise. Sorry to get off thread topic but I just wanted to get on my soap box.

    Drinking Alcohol Question

Not that I recommend this but...I had a alcoholic drink 4 days post op  I am slowly losing and I know it would come off faster if I gave up alcohol but I enjoy a glass or 3 on the weekends. When you are single and your social activities revolve around dinner w/ friends it is hard to stay on track. (probably one of the reason I am obese...now, I can eat a reasonable sized portion when dinning out instead of cleanning my plate...thank you band)
  13. Are you eating the FF canned beans at home or ordering them at a Mexican restuarant? The beans prepared at Mexican restuarants are full of fat which adds calories.
  14. The FDA didn't approve the band in the states until 2001. I know there are some other folks on this site from around the world, but you aren't going to find anyone w/ 10 years banding that was banded in the states until next year.
  15. When I removed the strips from surgery, there was sticky stuff from the tape and I just rubbed it off or washed it off in the shower...I did not remove any glue that was sealing up my incisions.
  16. My surgeon or one of the nurses told me to call the office and schedule a post op visit for 2 weeks out. No one from there called me, but I was instructed to call them...maybe they mention it but in your anesethia hang over it was forgotten.

    Zumba?

Why don't you check out a class at your local Y or gym? Most offer a guest pass for free b/c they want you to join. I have been meaning to try it b/c w/ my work schedule I can't seem to fit it in. I have never been ableto get into DVDs. I always find that after watching the video 2 or 3 times, I am done and don't care to watch it again.
  18. I like lose it. it has a great data base for food and excercise.
  19. When I told my doc that I COULD eat more than a cup of food, his response was, "I still want you to diet." From what I have read in literature and on this site, you should stop eating when you are satisfied and that should be after a cup of food....Easier said than done...If I could have stopped when I was satisfied before I probably wouldn't be obese right?!
  20. check out this thread. someone posted where you could buy the Protein shots on sale http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/protein-shots-110259/ I mix unflavored protein w/ crystial light, but the powder is still pretty expensive. I think 15 servings is around $20 so I don't know that it is any cheaper.
  21. 4 oz doesn't seem like enough. I have been told a cup of food for each meal. Sometimes I feel the same way. This weekend I had fondue and I think b/c the process is so drawn out that I was able to eat way more than I am supposed to so I called to get an appointment for an adjustment...then yesterday and today, I feel like anytime I eat something it gets stuck, so I canceled my appointment! I don't know, it is all still new to me so I decided I should wait a while longer before getting a 2nd fill.
  22. is the nutritional value based on 4 servings per recipe? Looks Yummy!!

    Foods to Avoid

Like someone else said, the foods I can't tolerate are because I am not chewing well enough. Today I had the exact same Breakfast as yesterday but today, it got stuck. I have been back and forth the the bathroom 3 times. It has been over an hour and I still don't feel great.

    Food addiction

I LOVE food! I don't have a very addictive personality though. When I quit smoking, it was no big deal, I just didn't buy cigerettes. I still eat food that isn't good for you, but in moderation and only once or twice a week. Every now and then I am going to eat a burger and fries. after the band, it will only be half of a small burger and just a few fries but I will still eat it. I don't know how helpful that is. I still eat those foods that many people consider forbidden, but I can have just a taste and be satisfied. My sister can not keep chocolate in her house b/c she will eat an entire bag of hershey kisses in one setting...I still have Easter candy from 2009 in my pantry! So I guess it all varies by the individual.
  25. I think a lot of people have similar thoughts. I was very concerned about complications since I am self pay. I was afraid any problem I had, could potentally bankrupt me. One thing I have learned is that a lot of the band erosion and slips are from procedures done early on. There have been advances in the procedure to limit some of the complications. Of course, it does still happen, but not as often....Here is a great thread on complications and other WLS...and a Surgeon's response to why he prefers the band. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/lap-band-erosion-46721/
