  1. My family got fried rice a couple weeks ago, and I discovered that's a big no for me. I tried a bite of the fried rice, and spent the next 10 mins trying to get it back up. After that, I tried some of the orange chicken, and the first couple bites were ok, then bam, back it came. not good. I can do other types of rice though. Right now I can do sushi, but I get another fill in 2 days so we'll see what happens. And steamed rice I can do, just not fried.
  2. If you can find a good pair of thigh highs I'd say go with those. Or else just lotion up really well. I hate to wear nylons so I just stick with lotion.
  3. Thanks for all the feedback:redface: As for the being unemployed, while it was my choice to quit-not the smartest choice in the world financially (the job I was at was taking too much of a toll on both my mental and physical health) staying unemployed is not my choice. By the time I quit I was also only getting 12 hours a week. I have been trying to get another job, I have some prospects, but in my area there aren't many places hiring, and a lot of them I am not qualified for. I've started looking in cities up to 2 hours away. I'm willing to relocate for the right job. Food wise, I do try and keep my portions seperate, I prefer boiled chicken over fried-really good with some california chili's, some chicken bullion and a jalapeno-yummm. Anytime I get extra money, I try and get some healthier stuff for me to eat. I've been trying to eat my protein first, and making sure I chew really well. It's killer holding off on the sweets, but I've had my will power strength renewed. And I've started writing everything down again. I was at the start of my journey, but my surgeon had said I didn't need to. He was wrong. It helps to keep me accountable ad I know that I need that. The home life, i really can't do much to change it at this point. My mom would kick her husband out if she could, but financially she can't right now. We have 7 of us in our house. My mom, her husband, 3 of my sisters, me and my grandmother. My grandmother has Alzheimer's, and my mom takes care of her. The only income my mom gets is to pay for my grandmother's care-medical supplies, various other things- She can't care for herself at all. And the 7 of us live in a double wide mobile home. And for some reason we don't qualify for assistance. We've tried but we're apparently in a weird zone where we make too much to qualify for medicare, but we don't make enough to cover other programs. I try to get out of the house whenever I can, due to a bad relationship with my mother's husband. He isn't a very nice person, and he's responisble for a lot of my low self esteem. So, I try to remove myself from the situation whenever possible. Today I went and busted my butt at the gym, and then came home and took my dog for a mile and a half walk. And I have an appt on wed for my third fill hopefully. So I'me going to hope I get a little more restriction from it, and keep going and busting my butt at the gym.( My mom is nice enough to pay for it-she doesn't have much, but she does what she can) And I still have my personal trainer that was a xmas present. Thank God. Beecause he does bust my butt.
  4. I wish I could say yes, that here is a way for me to get extra fiber, and other low fat options into the food we make. Unfortunatly, like I said before, my stepfather is a crybaby. If it doesn't taste the same as it always does, if he even suspects we put something new nto something, he wont eat it and will pitch a fit. He's teh worst diabetic I know. My mom and I don't bake like we used to, which has it's ups and downs. The ups being the homemade stuff isnt in teh house, the downs being it's theraputic for me, and I like to bake and give it away. But when we do make stuff, he(the stepfather) will say he can't eat it because he's diabetic, and you turn around and he's scarfing on chocolate cake and soda. Makes it kinda difficult to say the least. I'm hoping he won't be around much longer. Mean to say, but he treats us all like crap. I do try to get my Protein first. If we have something with meat, i try to chop it up into little bites first. Mostly because I'll get stuck if I don't, but it helps to slow me down. Thanks for listening.
  5. Hi everyone. i need to vent a little, and maybe get some feedback/encouragment/advice, lol.... Here's my situation. Because of circumstances I still live at home(I'm 25) If I could move I would but I am unemployed. Because I am unemployed I am not bringing in an income, and therefore have no control over what food is available to me. that's where one of my biggest problems lies:mad2:. I have no control over what is available to me. You would think that since my step-father is diabetic that we would have healthier food in the house, but he is the worst of them all(them being the other 6 people I live with-Mom, Step-father, 3 younger sisters, and Grandmother). He constantly brings home boxes of Cookies and donuts, ice cream, and cake:cursing:. My mom and I make dinner everynight, but more often than not it's something fried, with white rice, or mashed potatoes. The only fresh fruit that we seem to have is bananas, and I can't eat them because I am allergic and my mouth and esophogus swell when I eat them. If we do have something that isn't so high in calories, or fat, it's super high in sodium, and a slider food. I have been so frustrated because it makes me feel helpless. When I try to suggest something other than what we normally have, my step-father pitches a B-fit because he doesn't like what we're having. It doesn't matter if the rest of us want it, if he doesn't like it/want it, we wont have it. I feel like this is what has put me on this plateau I've been on. my weight has stayed the same for the past 4 weeks. It hasn't flucuated even .2 pounds. Any suggestions that anyone has would be great, or words of encouragement, or sympathy.:smile2: lol. But mostly I needed to vent.
  6. I named mine. Her name is Luna, because she only talks at night. 130 am hits and all you here is her grumbling in a silent room. It's amusing.
  7. I am one of those people that weighs twice a day. Once in the morning right when I go up, and once at night right before I go to bed. I usually take the average of the two as my weight for the day. But I don't log my weight every day. I only log on Fridays. My scale also measures body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, and water mass. I do those every other week. With those, I don't really pay attention to the numbers so much, as with the directions that they are going. That part is kinda fun to see. But even though I weigh myself multiple times a day, I don't let it get to my head too much. I always take into account whether I've had too much sodium, not enough water, or if I've worked out that day.
  8. Time for a check in. I've been silent on this thread lately. I got my seecond fill this past wednesday. All I can say is thank god! I definitely have more restriction with this second fill, and i'm quickly learning what isn't going to be tolerable anymore. I can manage a peice of bread but only if it's been dunked in soup. like totally soggy. and I can't do rice anymore. but it's a good thing. and I was able to start with a personal trainer two weeks ago and i'm loving it, especially the part where it was a xmas present and my dad said he's pay for as long as i needed it. on an even better note, the number on the scale has dropped dramatically in the past couple day. for weeks I was bouncing between 283.2 and 280. I stepped on teh scale this morning and to my shock and delight it said 272:w00t::w00t::thumbup:. I weight twice a day morning and night, so i know the number will be a little higher tonight, but still, i seem to have shot past that 280, and i not going back!
  9. Mine, too, is fairly simple. combination of my name -Sara- and my family's nick name for me since i was a baby. -Boobear, Sayboo- Hence, Saraboo
  10. So far, the trainer has started me with different strength training stuff. using teh free weights, using teh resistance machines, and where I should be at with cardio. As i get stornger and more able he's going to switch it up, change what i'm lifting and stuff. he knows that i've had teh lap band, so toning is def part of my training. I was talking about the biggest loser, and he said that it's his favorite show and he can get like bob and jillian do. *eek* lol, kinda scared for that part. I have to pay for it, but i think it's definitely worth the expense.
  11. I am totally there with you. 8 weeks out today, and i'm stalled at 18 lbs down. started with a personal trainer last week, and i'm scheduled for my 2nd fill on the 13th, so i'm hoping that helps. good luck...
  12. Wishing everyone a Happy New Years, and hoping that you all spent your night with the ones you love. With the blue moon occuring tonight, on the cusp of a new year and a new decade it made me wonder what it might mean:huh2::tongue2:, so i did a little bit of research. "The blue moon is not only a metaphor for something that occurs rarely, but it also has a history of portending luck, though without the pleasant and easy bifurcation between that of good and bad varieties. Superstition only has that the occurrence of a blue moon is the perfect time to plant the seeds of long-term goals that will blossom in the sun of a future day. This idea has to do with the superstition attacked to the blue moon that it contains magical properties. Any goals forwarded and planned beneath the glow of the second full moon of the month are thought to have the benefit of a kind of psychic tidal pull of the satellite. Unfortunately, the magic of the blue moon is unpredictably intense. To put in motion your goals for the future underneath the moon at the end of the month is the same thing as making a wish granted by a genie. If you don't use very careful and precise language, the result may very well be a sweet cookie full of arsenic. The potency of the magic of the blue moon is said to be concentrated and passionate; you may get what you wish for but in a way not foreseen if you allow loopholes to dangle beneath the bright reflection of the sun's light against the cold darkness of the lunar surface." The Luck and Rarity of a Blue Moon - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com :w00t: I thought that this was interesting, and could only mean the very best for those of us just starting our journeys and those who started long ago. May all your plans and wishes come true, and may the blue moon bring great luck to your life :smile2::biggrin:
  13. It sounds like you maight have bv-bacterial vaginosis. It's an infection where the symptoms are similar to a yeast inefection. An antibiotic should clear it up if thats the case. I had the same thing, and I was miserable.
  14. I totally know what you're feeling. I'm 6 weeks out, with one fill, and today was killer. I spent the day with family. And surrounded by tons of food. Nothing remotely healthy in sight. Mashed potatoes where half of it is butter, sugary snack, only carbonated beverages, adthe ultimate killer...tameles. more than one kind, and being cooked all day long. i know that i ate more than i should have, but tomorrow is a new day. good luck to you all...
  15. I seem to be on opposite end of the spectrum with the cookie madness. instead of people giving me sweets and baked good, i'm the one who bakes, and gives stuff away. I love to bake, but I get rid of stuff as soon as its baked. an angel food cake last weekend with fresh raspberries went to my cousins, two bactehs of peanutbutter rice krispy treats to my sisters friends. I'm making a cheesecake to take to my aunts on sun, and my mom and I will start with our who knows how many batches of choc chip cookies on saturday most likely.
  16. With the cold weather, homemade soups are perfect. We homeschool my youngest sister, and the soups are great for lunch, and the extra works for dinner also. If you make a chicken soup for lunch, you can thicken it up some for dinner and serve it with biscuts like a chicken pot pie. just make sure you save some broth for yourself. I've also gotten mysisters hooked on the protein shakes after a workout.
  17. I was given the green light for salads at three weeks. one of my fave salads is realllly simple. green leafe lettuce, a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese, fresh toasted almonds, and a squeeze of lemon juice. *and the toasted almonds are really easy to make-get some sliced almonds, spread them on a cookie sheet, and pop them in the oven for 5-10 mins at 390. pull them out when slightly browned. i love to toss them in Soups too. and if you want extra flavor, sprinkle them with your favorite seasoning before you put them in the ove. yummmmm.
  18. It definitely sounds like you need to find a new dr. I don't see how it can be healthy in any way to only eat once a day, and only fruits and vegtables at that. Did she tell you to have protein drinks or supplementss of any kind? Personally, my dr. told me that my body will tell me what it needs. eat when i'm hunrgy, just make sensible choices when i do. ie fresh veggies, nothing fried.
  19. I've only been off soda for 3 1/2 weeks, and i took a small sip of my friends diet coke. it was so sweet i almost gagged. it's killed any desire i have for a diet cola. my dr. never really gave me instructions on whether i could have soda or not, i just decided not to.
  20. I would have to say cold turkey would be the only way, and replace with something else with caffein. Personally, I don't like coffee but i like tea. I used to have a can of soda on my way to work at 1:30 am, a 20 oz bottle on my lunch at 6ish am, then hit a drive thru for a large soda when i got off, then another couple cans by the end of the night. it was all i wanted to drink. it gets easier the more time that passes by, and you'll find that after awhile, soda will taste too sweet. i was out with friends over the weekend, and i had finished my bottle of water but i was thirsty so i asked my friend for a sip of her soda-not good, i know, but it was that or alcohol, lol- and the soda was sooo sweet. it actually grossed me out some. i think i miss the thought of it more than the actual drink.
  21. two of my fave's are a Vanilla Peanut Butter shake, or Choc Peanut Butter. the ingredients are the same for both just depends on what flavor preotein poweder you're using. 1 scoop Vanilla/Chocolate Protein powder 1 1/2 Tbs peanut butter 1 cup skim milk 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract/flavoring 6 ice cubes Blend all together and enjoy. i like the vanilla one better, reminds me of a nutter butter, yum.
  22. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and my is still a little swollen, and is definitely hard feeling. its a trip, and you can even see a lump on my stomache where my port is.
  23. Everyone looks amazing. i can't wait to get there. I'm two weeks post-op and can't wait
