  1. My scars were glued, so they already looked scabbed over. I'll take pictures when my daughter gets home later (she still has my camera in her purse). You look so cute in your hospital gown & your hair is long! Very pretty for somebody in the hospital!

  2. Well, except for gas pain still, I feel okay. The incisions aren't bad, a little sore, but smaller than I thought they'd be. Going check your photos now....

Yippee! I'm on the banded side!

I'm back! I got home a couple of hours ago and promptly took a nap. According to my surgeon, the surgery was picture perfect." Let me tell you though, the gas pain in my chest was scary awful. I felt like I couldn't breathe when I first got to my room. The nurse thinks it was because I was in the post anesthesia area for a while (due to my room not being ready). That meant I was on my gurney, flat, for about 3.5 hours after the surgery. The gas just sat on my chest I guess. Anyway, when I got to my room, the nurses had me up walking and that helped a bit. Still had to take lots of pain med by injection right up until this morning before I left for home. What everyone says is true...walking, walking helps! I can breathe better today, but deep breaths are still kinda hard. At the the hospital, every time I woke up I walked around the nurse's station over and over and over. When I woke up this morning, the gas pain in my chest was better (not gone but better). Gas-X didn't help a lick. Walking is the key! I feel kinda itchy today, not like an allergy itchy, I just find myself gently scratching my skin. Maybe I'm just dry (it's cold here again in western NY).

    Weekend before lap-band surgery...

3/20/2010 Well, here I sit, about 33 hours from checking in for my surgery. This month has really gone by fast. I've been on a liquid diet consisting of 3 Atkins shakes a day, sugar-free drinks and jello, and water since 3/16. The first 3 days were hard. I even felt kind of faint after my shower yesterday. My friend thinks I had a vasovagal reaction from the hot shower, so today I took a lukewarm shower and was fine. Today I also didn't feel as hungry. I even forgot to drink my lunch shake and never had it until 3:30. I did cheat a little and had some low-fat, low-salt chicken broth because I was getting kind of sick of all the sweet stuff. I'm feeling pretty calm considering my surgery is so close, but let's see how I feel tomorrow night at this time! I'm glad I have to report to the hospital so early on Monday (5:30) because I'm pretty sure I won' sleep very well tomorrow night anyway!

    Weekend before lap-band surgery...

Thanks Lucky and BG! Your support means a lot. It's nice to know you're there, willing to help. See you on the other side!
  7. Good luck tomorrow, fellow March 22 surgery girl! See you on the other side!

  8. I just wanted to say, good luck to you, too. I will be thinking about you! I took your advice and brought a nightgown! See you on the other side!!

  9. Hi fellow March 22 surgery people, Woo Hoo! Our day is almost here! I've lost 10 pounds since I started the liquid diet on Tues, 3/16. Gotta take magnesium citrate at 2:00 today (why, I am not sure, I've already been "running" to the bathroom today ). I am not scared (yet), but I really just want to get this done!      :smile2: :tongue2:

    Weekend before lap-band surgery...

Thanks, Luckydog. I've subscribed to your blog and really enjoyed reading all your posts. It was very informative for me, especially since I'm preop (well only preop for a bit longer). Your ski pictures looked like so much fun!

    You got my vote, too!
  14. I've now lost 9 pounds since I started liquids only on Tues. Oh, and the surgeon never mentioned the nicotine test results (I didn't bring it up either). Two more sleeps! Finally! I've been re-reading all my handouts from the surgeon. Haven't packed a bag yet, I'll do that on Sunday. I have to check in at 5:30 a.m. How about you?

  15. Well, it's our last weekend before being banded! I am so excited. I hate the preop diet, of course, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel finally! I'll post again over the weekend. Do you have to do a bowel cleanout? i have to take magnesium citrate at 2:00 Sunday...yuck!

  16. My surgery is 3/22, too. On day 4 of liquid diet now. It's pretty hard. This morning I actually felt faint after my shower. I think I had a vasovagal reaction from the hot shower. It passed quickly, but tomorrow it will be a lukewarm shower for me!
  17. I think those 6 weeks are referred to as "bandster hell" because we probably won't have any restriction. I guess at first there is swelling which helps with restriction but after that goes down, we are pretty much on our own. I've lost 6 pounds since I started the liquids...so that's encouraging! How are you?

Neat! Same day! Do you have a preop diet? This is the start on my 3rd day, and after just the first 2 days, I had lost 6 pounds! yippee!

    Today is the day!!!

Happy birthday & band day! Hope you are doing well tonight! :cursing:
  20. I'm hungry! My stomach is growling like crazy! Ugh....4 more days of this!

    March 2010 Bandsters

Day #2 of my liquid preop diet. I started a day early because I was getting so tempted to eat poorly and just decided to start the preop diet. So far so good!
  22. Nope, we don't allow smoking in our house. I don't think I've even been around anyone smoking lately. I work at a hospital, so no smoking allowed there. It must be a lab error. My doctor was confused, too. It said "positive" then the words "canceled due to duplicate." He said he didn't know what that meant, there wasn't another nicotine test in the results that would be the "duplicate." I see the surgeon Thurs. Guess i will find out then. I'm not going to worry about it cuz I know it's a false-positive. How are you doing? I bet you are just in a tiny stall & the weight will start going down again very soon! It can't do anything else, right? My gosh! You're only drinking milk! I started my liquid diet today, got tired of being tempted with food and just decided to start....so far so good!

  23. Hi Fiona! You sound like you're doing really well. I know you're sick of milk, but the results are pretty amazing! I still haven't started my preop diet. I think I will start it tomorrow even though I don't have to until 3/17, but I've made some bad food choices that I feel I need an extra day. Oh, gosh! I had my appointment with my internist today so he could send the surgeon his statement that I'm fit for surgery. He reviewed the EKG, chest x-ray, and lab work from the hospital preadmission exam a few weeks ago. He said, "do you smoke?" Nope, I did when I was a teen but only for a few years and not since then. Well, my toxicology was positive for nicotine! What the heck? He thinks it's a lab mistake, but now I'm worried the surgeon won't believe that I don't smoke, and not smoking is one of his requirements. I wonder if he will have me take the test again?

  24. Wow! Milk, milk and more milk for you. Six pounds! Fantastic!! How do you feel otherwise... any headache? Do you feel woozy or faint from lack of food? I don't start my preop diet until 3/17. Three Atkins shakes a day & only clears (Crystal Lite, etc). That's it until 3/22. It is really starting to seem real, especially when i think that in less than 2 weeks, I'll be having surgery. I only just told my best friends last week. I almost didn't even tell them, but I'm glad I did, because they've been great. How about you? Are you telling anybody/everybody?

  25. Hi Robin,

I hope you are starting to find your way around LBT. How are you doing? I have my class tomorrow morning, then I have my final appointment with my regular doctor so he can give his ok for the surgery, one last appointment with the surgeon, start my 5-day liquid diet, and then surgery on 3/22! Wow...you will see....time flies! Soon you will be having your surgery!
