    January Bandsters???

I am home Have been for around 5 hours. I think most of my pain is gas. None of my incisions seem to hurt but there is a muscle pain that I can't place. I have been taking gasx but I am bloated. I just want to sleep. I have been walking but probably not as much as I need to. Gave myself my heparin shot and I am sipping on liquids. Have any of my band buddies posted yet?

    January Bandsters???

I have to be in at 5:30. The roads are horrible (ice) but I will leave at 3am if I have to. I am on clear liquids today and no bowel prep or anything tonight. I probably won't sleep much either. I am excited and starting to get nervous. Good Luck everyone. Renee

    January Bandsters???

I had to have a pulmunary function test. It takes about an hour to an hour and 1/2. You are placed in a glass cubicle and asked to breath into a tube with your nose plugged. The gal had me hold for periods and blow out and pant and all kinds of breathing things to see how your lungs do. It was a little weird having my nose plugged, I guess I am a nose breather, but other than that its not a big deal. Just another hoop to jump through. I got mine scheduled pretty quickly. Good Luck. Renee

    January Bandsters???

Thanks. I will be on clear liquids the day before and nothing after midnight. I will be just thrilled to have it pushed out however long it will take them to re-schedule me to do the clear liquids all over again. Oh man!

Highly offended by the ladies of "The View"

That's possible. I truly think that people who don't struggle with their weight, don't get it. Rosie is a different story, obviously.

I have to say that I thought it was the easy way out until I watched my girlfriend go through it. There isn't anything easy about what she had gone through. You still have to make proper food choices, exercise and not eat around the band. It helped me make the decision to have it done. I thought I would be giving up all of the power. There is a misconception if you aren't educated on WLS. And as far as that goes, I could spend 5 more years fighting it, or do this and spend the next 5 years liking myself a whole lot more.

    January Bandsters???

I am up Friday too and we are supposed to have a snow storm here tonight and tomorrow and then stay really cold for awhile. I am scared that the surgeon won't be able to get in or the anesthesiologist. I am sure the necessary surgerys will get priority over the elective ones. This is a complete rollercoaster, waiting. I really hope I get it done.

    January Bandsters???

I am on my 6th day of the preop and only down 4. It is making me crazy. I am eating no carbs, no sugar and no fat, that isn't in the protein and veggies that I am eating. Protein and vegetables and a protein drink in the morning and I am on the eliptical for 40 minutes a day. What if the band doesn't work for me. I am eating way less than I normally do and only 4 lbs. I go in for surgery on Friday and on Thursday I have to be on clear liquids.

I will add a pudding and call it a day. I did the eliptical for 30 minutes. I am blue but I made it through day 1 so far.

Make sure that your insurance actually has it in hand. My medical necessity letter took 3 weeks. Made me crazy. Then my insurance company had to send it out to a medical board to be decided and it could take up to 30 days, but it was much quicker. I fully expected to have to fight the insurance company. My plan states that I need 12 months medically supervised diet and exercise plan that I was never asked for. I think all insurances are different. Good luck.

    January Bandsters???

I am schedulede for January 12th and I have a strict pre-op diet for 2 weeks also. 10-14 days actually. Liquids only and that being diet products like propel and crystal lite, fat free broth, fat free popsicles and protein drinks. That's it.
  17. Hi, My name is Renee and I have been lurking here for about 4 months while I was working on getting approval from my insurance. I have First Choice through Western Teamsters. They require 12 month medically supervised diet and exercise. I started with getting a letter from my ob/gyn who has seen me for the past 12 years. We have documentation that my weight has been a struggle for me for years and that he prescribed phen/fen for me (which worked), along with some other diet drugs, which didn't work. Then I was asked to provide a letter of medical neccesity, which my lapband surgeon provided. My case had to go to an outside medical board for determination and that happened on 12/4. That process can take 30 days so I haven't been super agressive about calling. I called yesterday and the lady asks all the questions about the ss number and stuff and then she says :" oh my, it was approved just today, you will be receiving a letter" I about dropped to the ground. No proof of 12 month exercise and diet, no fight, nothing. Just an approval. I was prepared for a fight, I had documentation for the last 6 months and I figured I would have to wait another 6 if need be. I can't believe it. I started to cry. So for everyone just starting the process, have faith. It isnt always a fight. Sometimes it goes smoothly. I am truly blessed. Now I have to do all the hard stuff, like quitting caffeine and birth control and the 2 week liquid diet etc. But I am on my way!!!!!!! Thanks for listening!

    Lurker finally posting!

Thank you everyone! My girlfriend was banded a year and a 1/2 ago and told me about this board. I didn't start lurking here until I found out my husbands insurance would cover it. I see that there is alot of support here. I am sure that I will be needing it as this journey begins. I can't wait until the tool is in place and I can start using it. Looks like January 12th is my surgery date, at this point. Kathy, how are you feeling? renee
