  1. I am so excited for all of you, I had my surgery on January 4th 2010 and this is one of the best decisions I could of made. I love my band I am 37 pounds away from my goal and I have been training for a 5k for the past 6 weeks. I actually ran 2.75 miles yesterday and I have never ran in my life... LOL I can tell you that this is a major life change, my eating habits have changed 100 % the first month is really hard adjusting. I bought a body bugg and a fit book, I keep track of everything I eat and drink, I keep track of every workout. I also set goals to keep me motivated. Good luck to all of you, if there is anything I can do for any of you please ask.... We are all in this together, and by the way I am totally off blood pressure medicine in just two months.
  2. Hello Bandwife and welcome,, this is probably the wrong post for you to be under but no matter what we can probably address some of your husbands issues.. This is a very supportive post for the most part and we all try to support each other on this journey. Not that we are all sheeps and can not see that some people (wonderful) people do have troubles with the band. There may be many reasons for your husbands trouble and he probably should start from square one. Doing the liquids for awhile then the mushies. We need more info about how fast he eats, how many cc's are in his band. If your only hopes are to get money from a lawsuit, you have to have more compications than vomiting, because he could just have all the fluid out of his band and he would probably be able to eat anything he wants. You didnt mention any kind of weight loss or how much he is in the gym? Just not being able to have steak is not going to be grounds for a lawsuit. Please give us more info and all of us Kool-aide drinking fools will try to help you guys out....

    Fell off.......

    So what you had a few extra calories,, do not beat yourself up.... Hang in there have a great day, do something really active. This is a marathon not a sprint. Think positive, we all mess up I had cake and cookies and miniture brownies and pizza, last night. Guess what my weight was still down today... You are not alone we are with you.
  4. Two months out and 23 pounds down. The day of surgery I had 65 pounds to loose, I had already lost 24 pre-op so in total I am down 47 pounds,, I cant believe it....

    Why Tell Anyone?

    I find in telling everyone, I have opened myself up to being accountable. Also if anyone is interested in having WLS I am opening myself up to being a go to person. I will share what I have learned so far with anyone interested. I love my band and it sure has changed my relationship with food, and if there is anyone I can help... wonderful.

    This is a marathon, not a sprint. You are 15 pounds closer to your goal. If you loose to fast you hit a plateau, which is torture. Hang in there you can do it..
  9. I know this is sorta off topic,,, but how did you get AETNA to approve this procedure. Have you been having back pain, or shouder pain? Thanks so much for the info.

  13. Give yourself a Break!!!! We can gain 3 pounds in water weight in one day.... The great news is you stoped smoking that is wonderful and the truth is the first six months are the hardest. Your body is still going through withdrawl, try to do anything you can to stop grazing but dont beat yourself up. You should be so proud of yourself, try to hang tight until you get your fill. You are adding healthy years onto your life think about that, none of us are perfect and that is why I love the support we get here. We are all in the same boat just fighting different battles each day. Take one day at a time and try to keep yourself busy so that your not bored,,, go to the gym. I started doing a couch to 5K that I printed off the internet and it really keeps me motivated to go to the gym.. Good Luck and just take it minute by minute.
  14. Hello,,, I am 7 and 1/2 weeks post op. I initially lost 16 pounds in the first 4 weeks. Then I went for a fill and I started really going to the gym atleast 3-5 times a week and all the weight lost stopped dramatically. What does everyone do to get through these plateaus, my calories are under 1200-always and I get my 64 oz of water and my 60 grams of protein everyday. Any suggestions would be really appreciated

    Kicking Plateau's

    thanks everyone for the comments and support it is the difference between success and failure for me. I have had one fill so far, i had a fill on 2/4 i am up to 5cc's. My MD tried to give me 2 cc's but I was wayyyy to tight so he took out one so I could drink water. So with all your advice I picked up a pair of pants that I was not able to button last week,,, now mind you my weight has not changed one bit.... but I was able to button the pants today.... So I guess I am loosing inches... Thanks so much for everyone's support.. I will keep up the good fight for another day...LOL Happy weekend everyone

    I'm here to help...

    Hey Jewel,,, Some thoughts try the premier protein bars from Sams club,, they are 290 calories and 30 grams of protein, I love them when I am on the run and they will fill you up for a long time.. I know we are band buddies 1/4/10 I have lost 20 and have been on a plateau for over 1 1/2 weeks. I figure because I lost that first twenty so fast my body is just trying to figure out what is going on. I am training for a 5k and use weights to hopefully keep going. How is everything else?? Do you love your band, I love the band so much. I am so glad we are 6 weeks out and on our way. Good luck so happy you are doing so well, and I love the greek yogurt it is very thick and takes some getting use to....
  19. Hello, awesome I just started a 10 week couch to 5k on Monday. I would love some support and would like to join you guys. I am only on the 3rd day. I have so much restriction I find it a challenge to get 800 calories in everyday. I usually drink the protein shake for breakfast and have a small meal for lunch and dinner. I get full so fast within 3-4 bites. I have been having a protein bar before bed to increase calories. Does this sound normal? Good Luck everyone on their running
  20. This is a great question,, I didn't even consider WLS until one of my friends and I were discussing loosing weight and I said I was working on it. That is when my friend asked me how I was going to loose the weight,,, diet, exercise, the lap band. I was so upset that someone would suggest that I needed WLS???? I finally had to deal with the fact that I was big and needed to do something. I am only one month out and have to say this is by far the best thing I have ever done for my health ever. I cant wait until I love to see pictures of myself and my family every where in my home, and mirrors... LOL
  21. Hello, Maybe if you start off really simple. I only focus on protein which is calculated by .37 times your weight and this will give you how many grams you need a day. I have a low cal GNC protein drink in the morning with two scoops of the powder so that is 40 grams then I have foods that cover the other 20 grams, greek yogurt has 14 grams of protein. You can easily cover the rest with and egg or tuna. Follow all the rules, and maybe you will be able to get back on track... are you drinking your water? Good luck
  22. OK guys it is never normal to feel like someone is standing on your chest or not to be able to take a deep breath. The can be one of several post op complications including a pulmonary embolism, so please f/u with your MD. If it is nothing great but you need to be able to take a deep breath to open up your lungs and to prevent pneumonia! If you can't inflate your lower lobes of your lungs, they are dark moist and wet, this is just setting you up for a complication. Please call your MD.
  23. Coming from a medical standpoint I think you should call your MD this could be a post surgical complication and should be followed up on!

  25. I have Kathleen too, but I only attended the two meetings that were mandatory prior to surgery. I am really hoping to build a really good support group to help with keeping the weight off. It seems that everyone spends so much focusing on the weight loss. I really want this to be a lifelong success, my issue has always been with keeping it off, but then again I have had four kids over the past 15 years LOL. All done with that, have you tried the zumba classes yet they are so much fun and a great workout.
