Ryan you are very wise to try and take back control of your life. The health discovery channel had a show. They had several teenagers that have had the bypass( which is much more dangerous for someone your age) The boys were thrilled with themselves. They started working out, buying clothes, DATING etc. Everything that teenager want to do plus their SELF ESTEEM was wonderful. You can do this! Your grandmother has the band and will help coach you in eating properly. I know you will be so thrilled to see the weight dropping off. Yes you have to cut back on food but you won't be hungry all the time. I was banded at NYU in NYC. My Doctor has a grant and has helped teenager regain their lives back by giving him the band. His name is DR George Fielding........I owe him my life. I was in a sinking hole and he helped me out. Join us and get your life back.... The best of luck...... I'm talking as a teacher, mother and fellow bandster SPUNKY

Starbucks..what do you order??
I drink hot coffee in the morning and ice coffee later on in the day. My band seems to be sensitive to very cold things. Ice cream can make me slime......... good luck! Spunky

A place for bandsters in their 60's
I was taken off mobic for 2 weeks prior to being banded. That's to keep us from having excess bleeding. I was banded Aug 2006 and I'm doing fine. I'm riddled with arthritis and must take something. I can't tolerate Advil at all. I get sever gastritis and end up in the hospital. The band is worth all the effort. Good luck..... Judy

Chrisann...I know the timing of things YUCK, but think of this as a Christmas gift. Your heading for a new life and a new body. Next year you will be so thrilled with yourself. At least Dr. Ren was able to squeeze you in before your parents went home. Happy Holidays spunky

Cheating..No, not with food!
I'm married 37 years and no cheating on either side. I'm more than he can handle <wink> With children raised and hubby is retired we have a warm and loving relationship. It's such a nice time with most of the stress gone. Now we spend time going to doctors together. LOL Happy holidays all..... spunky

Chrisann the doctors will be out of the country for christmas. It's not their fault if the hospital changed the date. Hang in there the surgery is well worth it. Happy Holidays spunky

Chrisann the process for the band takes longer than losing the weight it seems. My insurance company made me jump through hoops before they paid for the band. However, waiting made me process my lifestyle changes.Anything good is worth waiting for..... The NYU office is packed for a reason.......they are wonderful. NYers don't have any patients. They walk in and want to be taken immediately. If they know you only want your doctor they will try to honor it.....but you just might like some of the others as well. Gasper and Ann also have the band and can be very helpful with any questions. Tami also is great, she has the band but doesn't do fills. When is your next appointment? I'll be there this tues at 4:30 good luck spunky

Sorry that isn't true. Dr Ren did my last fill. Dr Fielding my doctor was in surgery. Some don't want to wait for the doctor's to do a fill or unfill. Gasper (NP)and Ann(AP) are excellent as well. Sorry I just had to stop false rumors..... spunky

Lucy who is your doctor in Miami? I was banded with Dr Fielding at NYU but I'm a snowbird living in Boynton Beach half a year. I could use a doctor when I'm in Florida. thanks Spunky

Reflux Poll
Banded at age 58 ok don't laugh......never too late. I have gastritis....pain of the stomach lining. I had it before the band. It sometimes flares up now.I take protonics 2x a day. Reflux is bad for asthma. Reflux happens if you eat too fast. Filled too tight. Eat to much. It took me a long time to cut back to a 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of food at a meal. If I'm hungry at night I have a protien shake......coats the stomach and esophagus and empties into your stomach faster than food. I hope this helped. Happy holidays Spunky

How Did You Survive Turkey Day?
My whole family is full of size 0 2s and 4s......nobody ate much. I fit right in....<wink> It's being with people not what you eat.....1 forkful of mashhed potatoes, 1 forkful of mashed turnips, a couple of salmon with a sauce and for dessert a sugar free poached 1/2 a pear...I was banded aug 7 2007......it does get easier. And you will love shopping for NEW clothes. Happy holidays spunky
