    Full or Stuck?

I have found when I get full I get the hiccups and start having discomfort in my chest area
  2. I have been wondering something for a while now. Any time I go to see my Doctor, I forget to ask so I am going to ask all of you. Maybe someone out here in band land will know the answer. So here goes. Why is it since I got my band if I attempt to eat anything even slightly spicey it gets stuck and right back up it comes? For instance, I went to McDonalds earlier and got a McRib. I only wanted a couple bites then was going to give it to my hubby. I took 1 SMALL bite and within seconds I was bent over the toliet throwing up that small bite? What is it with the band that makes it to where we can't handle spicey food anymore? I'm not talking just a McRib, I mean black pepper, onions, even hamburger meat does this to me. But Chicken, I can handle with no problem as long as I don't put anything but a little bit of salt on it? Anyone out there know whats going on?

    Cereal?

If you want cereal, why not trying to eat it without milk. I like to have basic four every once in a while. Um sounds good right about now, may have the hubby go get me some in the a.m. I don't think it is high in calories and I know that it will stick with you for a while.

    smoking

Hey Bell, I had been smoking about 2 1/2 yrs prior to surgery. I had my cigg on my way to the hospital to calm my nerves. I was a nervous wreck and the 2 hour trip didn't make matters any better. After I had the surgery, I quit cold turkey for 2 months. I didn't have an urge to smoke what so ever. Something happened one day, don't remember what it was. My hubby wasn't around and I just picked one up and starting smoking it. I hated myself for doing it and he wasn't to happy with me for picking it up. I just smoked my last one a few minutes ago. I finished the pack and I WILL NOT PICK UP ANOTHER ONE NO MATTER WHAT! I have to have surgery on the 13th to remove scar tissue from a previous surgery. I am really nervous about it, but at the same time, I know that I am in good hands cause I have gone to this OB/GYN for almost 12 yrs. now. It's going to be really hard to just put them down, but I can do it. Just gotta find something to do with the time.

    smoking

A while back I posted a blog asking if smoking could make it to where you band was tighter than normal. As a new year resolution I have decided to stop smoking. I have realized today since I have only had 6 ciggs today. I have been able to eat better and not have the feeling of things getting stuck. I do believe that smoking has an effect on the band. All another reason for me to quit smoking.
  6. It does sound as if he would rather do the bypass. The only reason (in my opinion) would be because there is more money he would get from the bypass.
  7. First of all I want to take time to wish everyone out there in band land the wonderfulest of Holidays! Hopefully everyone out there has their holiday shopping finished up and is starting to enjoy the holidays. I finished up my shopping earlier this week and have all of my 4 kids, my hubby, my mom and dad, and in-laws presents under the tree. Second of all, here comes the news I just had to share. I went to the store this morning to find me a pair of jeans and a shirt to wear to our Christmas Eve dinner with the family. I (as usual) was dreading the trip to plus size clothing. They never have the cute trendy cloths like the smaller sizes and it always has depressed me. I had my mom with me and had to (right in the middle of the store) look down my pants at the size tag. I wore a size 16 into the store. Now my 16s where getting a little loose on me so I thought, what the heck, I will see if I can go down a size and them fit comfortably. I pick out a pair of jeans, went to the dressing room and tried on a size 14. They fit just like a glove. Not to tight. Not to loose. Just right. I couldnt believe it, I was actually standing infront of a mirror in a size 14 pants. For the first time in 11 years, I had on a pair of jeans that were not from the plus size section. My shirt, it is a large and (if I do say so myself) pretty cute. A long sleeved pink shirt with a pink tanktop with lace around the top of it. I am so excited!! I had my doubts that I'd ever be down to this size, but here I am AND I AM LOVING EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT!!!
  8. To anyone who has had excess skin removed. How long did it take you to get to the point to where you knew it was time to have the extra skin removed? I am 1 year and 4 months out and I have realized that I am going to have to have this extra skin removed. I have the hi bye arms, and the extra skin on my belly. I don't like it a bit and it is very embarrassing.
  9. It is wonderful that your wife has someone beside her that is willing to support her. I know that without the help and support from my husband I wouldn't have made it this far. For the concern as to her regaining the weight back. I wont lie, it is possible. But if she sticks to the diet and does as she is suppose to, she should do just fine. I know that most people on this site has been able to lose the weight, that wasn't the problem, the problem was, regaining it back. I went through it for almost 11 years. If it helps, yes I have gained about 5 pounds since I had my surgery back in August of 2008. But it comes off pretty fast when I do as I am suppose to. Her not wanting to tell people that she is having this done is normal. I understand her not wanting everyone to know what she is doing. After all, it is no ones business what she is doing. Yes people are very vocal as to the surgery. Some are understanding of it, but most put you down for having it done. My dad didn't understand why I was wanting to have it done until I starting losing the weight and keeping it off. Now he fusses on me if I so much as have a cookie. I have a cousin that has point blank told me that I was cheating and taking the easy way out. I just told her, that I loved her but she had no idea what I was going through. I have had to basically learn again how to eat. Learn what I can't eat and learn what happens if I eat what I know I shouldn't be eating such as anything greasy or spicey. In the end, my opinion is this, it doesn't matter what any one else thinks about what I have done. I did this for myself and no one else. I did it to feel better about myself and to make it where I could actually get out and play with my kids. If other people don't like the way I am doing, then they have the option of not being around. I know your wife will be fine. She is lucky to have someone like you to stand beside her with her decision she is making for a better and healthier life.

    Is gum chewing okay?

For myself, chewing is a BIG NO NO.for a while after surgery, I did chew gum. I have realized that when I would chew gum I would tend to swallow more air and by the end of the night, I would end up with gas pains that put me in the fetal position and left me crying. I don't know if anyone else can chew gum without the same problems. Maybe it's like the whole food thing, it's different for everyone.
  11. I got my band August 18, 2008. I have lost a total of 94 pounds. Now the inches, I have no idea, I haven't actually kept up with that part. I could not imagine fitting into a size 14 when I first started out, but hey, I'm there. It just takes A LOT of patience to determination to get there. You will make it there, and when you do, you will look back and say well, couldnt imagine it then, but here and am and I'm not stopping here!!! congrats on making it as for as you have. You are doing a good job. Keep up the good work.
  12. I started out in a size 28
  13. Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Stacy and I'm from Tn. I received my band in August of 2008. I have since lost 92 pounds. I know that most of you have lost more than this, but all the same, I am very pleased with my weight loss. However, the following I am not so pleased with. I have been at a complete stand still for about a month now. I'm not losing nor am I gaining. The not gaining I can deal with, the not losing is what is driving me crazy. I know that I don't need an adjustment because I am still getting full pretty fast and staying full long enough not to want to snack during meals due to being hungry. I still have those cravings to snack all day long, but mostly when I am bored and have nothing to do. During these times, I try my best to find something to do, but you can only clean the kitchen so many times during the day..lol. Anyone out there have any tips on how to start the weight loss again? If so, I would greatly appreciate the advice.
  14. I know that smoking isn't good for you, but, I do it anyways. I want to quit and have tried to but with 3 other adults in the house with me smoking, it makes it very hard to do so. I have made up my mind that I am going to quit and plan on getting the patches or something to help me quit but I wont be able to do it until the beginning of next yr. Anyways, I was just wondering, does smoking affect the band by making it tighter than normal or does anyone know?

    Do you drink soda?

I'll have half of a soda a day. B4 my surgery, I would have about 3 diet drinks a day. So I think I am doing pretty darn good with having only 1/2 of a soda a day. I am now addicted to chocolate milk. I mix fat free milk that has only 80 cals. per serving with s/f chocolate milk mix that is only 15 cals. per serving which is 2 teaspoons. I have 2 8 ounce glasses a day, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. Rest of the day, I usually drink hot tea sweetened with splenda (cimminion flavored), crystal light flavored packs with water, 1/2 a diet drink, and regluar tea sweetened with splenda.

    smoking and the band

I smoked before my surgery and my Doctor knew it. He never told me that if I did not stop smoking he would not go through with the operation. He just explained to me that smoking does slow the healing process and said that it would be a good idea to quit before having it done. I did not have one the day of my operation and for 2 months after that. I know I was stupid for picking one up after 2 months but everyone around me kept smoking. I know that that isn't a really good excuse, but at the time it was for me.

    Do you drink soda?

My Doctor said that I can have soda just to make sure it is flat and diet. The diet part does not bother me to much, but the flat part, I don't like to well. I'd much rather have a flat diet coke rather than not having any at all.
