  2. Oh my! Only 3 pounds in 10 days. I was "ahead" on making my goal, now there is no room for error. It's been a hectic and stressful period of time and now it's time to get back on track with the exercise.

    Well, I lost 4.2 lbs this week. (I really lost 6.2 but I had gained 2 lbs before I got my fill)

    I have 9.2 lbs to go for my goal. Not sure if I will make it but I am going to try!

    I've got 10 lbs to go. I hear you. Let's go for it.

  4. For those whose knees or hips may make exercise really challenging, I am now a big fan of the Wii dance games, Just Dance and Dancing with the Stars. You can "dance" sitting down part or all of the time if you need to, but still get the heart rate up and sweat a bit. They both have a variety of music from several decades, so there is a good chance you'll find some music that makes it impossible NOT to dance. I've played both with 2 athletic types, and they both thought the games were fun and challenging. My favorite is Just Dance. It felt great to feel good exercising again. (BTW, when I successfully lost weight about 15 years ago, I started by "just dancing." I think I started with 10 minutes and just kept adding time before feeling ready -- and inspired -- to move to videos, then a women's gym.)

    I have also been working with a physical therapist for several months. He's generously added a little cardio (arm cycling) to my sessions to support my weight loss. I hope to get enough range of motion back in my knees to be able to use a recumbent bike in the next few months.

    I just tried these for the first time last week....it was so nice to crunch on something, but I don't think I can exercise enough control to purchase them regularly.

    And to your Trader Joe's shopping list, I'd add the cage free Omega 3 eggs and a few extra dollars for all the things you want to try!

    And for the record, the Trader Joe cult is also in Indiana.


  6. It took about a year for me from the time I made the first call to the surgeon. My insurance company required 6 months' of supervised weight loss. There were a LOT of changes and slow downs with my surgeon's office and the bariatric center, and I also tried (unsuccessfully) to get the vertical sleeve procedure approved. My insurance company was actually quite quick with its decisions.


  7. The problem with the Wii Fit is that it will not work if you weigh over 330 pounds. The actual hardware can support over 600 pounds but the software puts a 330 lb. limit on it.

    So for me, at a starting weight of 408 lbs. I would not be able to take advantage of this tools. But there is a way around it.

    If you put the Wii Fit platform on a soft blanket that will allow people over the 330 lb limit to use the unit. I have a blanket and I need to fold it a couple of times. It confuses the scale so it lets you play the game. Your weight specs will not be accurate but that is far less important then unlocking all the games & exercises it lets you do

  8. I have one of these, and I guess I'd say it meets my expectations for the price. For me to use it comfortably, I use a low, soft living room chair and (tighten my abs and) lean back like I'm on a recumbent bike. After a while, the grippers start to rotate and it moves. I bought this because I don't yet have the range of motion for a full exercise bike, but needed to start moving my legs. I think you would have to be rather motivated to use this to get a long work-out, but it may be that I'm too short, heavy and/or out of shape.


  9. If you have a craving for indian food. Try Trader Joe's Indian Fare. My favorite is Dal Makhani, One serving has 170 cal, 7g fat, 20g carb, 3g Fiber, 7g Protein.

    Madris Lentil is another good flavor and has fewer calories.

    I am soooo with you Melodie on the Indian food: Dal Makhani (also my favorite), Madras Lentils, and Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese, 6g Protein per serving) and (in the frozen foods at Trader Joe's) the Curried Lentils with Cumin Rice. (I just eat a couple of tablespoons of the rice.) I have added baby food (ham or chicken) to boost the protein even more.

    I really like starting my day with a Protein shake. My favorite is chocolate Peanut Butter banana: 1 heaping scoop (each) of Miracle whey chocolate and Peanut Butter protein powders, 1/2 frozen banana, 12 oz cold Water and 4 oz of almond or soy milk. Blend in a blender.

    My favorite "treat" shake is Spiru-tein Cookies and Cream made with a DanActive vanilla, 1 packet of Sun Crystals, 12 oz cold Water and 4 oz almond or soy milk. Shake in shaker.< /p>


  10. I'm a size 20/22 right now and even when I was a 16, I could never cross my legs! When I was younger, I couldn't wait until I got older so I could cross my legs when I sat, but when I got older I just got fatter and was never able to do it. I can't wait until the day I can cross my legs!

    I remember when I was around 12 years old my friends and I did a little dance routine that started with sitting in a chair with crossed legs. (We all took ballet and gymnastics). My legs did not cross as well as their longer, slimmer legs even though I was trying as hard as I could. I probably wore about a size 12 or 14 pants on my pear-shaped, 5'1" body at that time.

    I really hope that I can nicely cross my legs eventually, but I'll also be happy to cross them at all again.

  11. He also said he wanted me smoke free (yea I am a smoker) for 1 week when I have seen other people say they were to quit a month before--why so many differences from doctor to doctor??? Also it seems like a lot of people having this are in their 20's and 30's are there any 40 + people out there and do you think the recovery process takes longer for us older folks lol???

    Lol. My Dr. actually changed bariatric centers (along with a nutritionist) during my 6 months of supervised weight loss so it's kind of interesting to be getting different recommendations now than I did in the beginning. I stopped smoking about a year ago and I'm in my 40's too. :biggrin:
