    Feb. 23rd!

I was banded on the 23rd. I feel pretty good the only pain I have is the port area it's a little tender. I started pureed foods yesterday. Seems weird to get full on 2oz of chicken puree.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I'm home. My whole experience has been pretty good. Arrived at the hospital at 5:10am. Was took back to the pre op room at 5:25 had to wash down with these anti-bacterial pads. Then changed in to my gown had my stockings and boots put on for blood clot control. Then had a shot in the stomach of heparin, stomach was shaved. Surgeon and Anesthesiologist came and saw me. Wheeled me back to surgery about 7:20 Had me slide over on to the table and fastened my arms down, put a oxygen mask on my face had me take some deep breathes then said they were going to give me medicine to make me sleep. Next thing I know I was waking up in recovery. The nurse said I had my band and a hiatal hernia repaired. They gave me some morphine and anti nausea medicine. Was transferred up to my room about 10:00 Went on my first walk at noon did two laps around the ward. They have it measured off 26 laps around is a mile The day of surgery I did a total of 18 laps. They got me up the next morning at 5:30 said my surgeon required all patients had to be out of bed and walking by 6 am. My surgeon came in at 7am and said I was doing fine and I could go home. It took the nurse until 10am to get my paper work done. Then we walked out. My pain hasn't been to bad. I really think the walking helps. Actually the ride home was probably the most pain I have been in. This Indiana roads are not the smoothest after a long winter. Some pillows for the ride home helps. I have had very little gas pain. Well that's my story hope it helps anyone who is still to be banded. Good luck everyone.

    Dr. Dale Sloan - sleeve??

I'm a lapband patient. I dont think he does the sleeve
  13. I'm pre op I had this conversation with my surgeon yesterday. He said as long as my gall bladder was not giving me a lot of problems. He would prefer not to take it out during lapband surgery. Because it increases the risk for infection.

Stop Smoking Pre and Post Op....

Iam using Chantix. It is working really good for me. Haven't had a cigarette since10/19/09 If your insurance dosen't cover it it cost about 170.00 for a month supply. If you think about it that is cheap in the long run compared to the cost of cigarettes.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hang in there it does get easier.I have been on the OptiFast diet for 3 weeks now. After days 5-6 the real bad hunger pains start to go away. Then it is all head hunger you just start to crave some real food.I find that drinking a lot of fluids helps. It sounds funny to say but you can stay full on fluids.I drink a lot of crystal light and zero calorie Powerade. What has helped me most though is when I get on the scales. I have lost 32 pounds.Good Luck
  18. You will be ok. Just keep your eye on the prize at the end. I am on a 5 week pre op diet of 6 shakes and 1 protien bar. I am not going to lie to you the first 4 days were hell. Gets a litttle easier after that. I have lost 14 lbs in 8 days. That makes it a bit easier when you see the scale. Stay postive and good luck
  19. Don't be nervous about talking to the pcp about the band. Thats whats he is there for. You can bet he has heard it before. Do you have a high BMI? Do you have any health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea? If yes to any of these questions then it should be no problem. Even if you don't have any of these problems he may still give you the letter of medical necessity. Just keep plugging away you will get your surgery.
  20. Had my first appointment on 1/5 I have a tentative surgery date of 2/23. Surgeon wants me to lose 30 lbs. I am on a Optifast diet of 6 shakes and 1 protein bar a day. Has anyone else been on this diet and if so do you any helpful hints. Thanks Everyone
