  1. @Cervidae : My doc said that the Premiere Protein shakes were good but that we should only count them for half the protein as is listed on the nutritional information, because it was something about the fact that they (and things like Muscle Milk) are concentrate, and bypass patients won't be able to break it down as well. Otherwise those are wonderful! @James Marusek : my NUT did give me volume recommendations 2-4 tbsp for this first month, but didn't give any calorie recommendations. Maybe it's just not that important in this phase? Thanks for those recipes!
  2. Okay that makes me feel a bit better. What protein shakes do you recommend? I usually use Unjury or Syntrax and they are about 100calories per scoop. And thank you!
  3. So I'm 3 weeks out from GBP RNY and I'm physically feeling great. I can get all my liquids and Proteins no problem, I'm incorporating the pureed foods in just fine. I'm getting a lot of walking in, have even tried a little tennis (although I don't know if I'm quite ready for that yet). But overall I feel physically good. The problem is my fat girl brain. I'm just starting to realize what people mean when they say they miss their addiction... In a way I've lost my only coping mechanism and my best friend: food. I'm feeling a little depressed and almost don't even want to bother with making pureed meals because "why bother?" I can only have a few tablespoons, and food even tastes bad now. And I'm never hungry. And for whatever reason, I just can't get myself to feel better. My smart brain knows this to be nonsensical. But my fat girl brain misses that feeling of satisfaction, of feeding the addiction, and for the first time ever I don't have the ability to shut her up with delicious ice cream or mac & cheese. This is so not me. I'm positive and happy and generally just have my head screwed on straight. That's all. Random rant. I probably just need more exercise and to be patient.
  4. I get this too! In my lower back. I feel like it might have something to do with losing muscle? I feel a lot less strong, especially in that part of my back. I also get muscle soreness now even when I haven't exercised much. Like today my thighs feel like yesterday was leg day, and it's even hard to squat down to tie my shoes!
  5. Thanks for all the good feedback, guys!! It's a new day and I feel immeasurably better! I think this is just going to be a struggle and I have to think of ways to break the "head hunger"! And yes, once I'm on regular foods again it will probably be a lot better! Honestly I'm just craving a beautiful delicious strawberry right now!

    Isopure ready-made protein drinks

You can also go to stores like the Vitamin Shoppe and just buy a bottle to try them before you buy a case! They are different, but a good change from the thicker Protein shakes, if you're looking for a good fruit option
  7. Okay bear with me... I had GBP RNY one week ago. I've been doing great, feeling great, recovering great. Even with liquids, it was hard at first but now pretty easy to make goal. Today my doc put me onto phase 2, puréed. I was beyond ecstatic and went home to make a recipe I had seen online, a baked ricotta and marinara mush thing. My doc had warned me to take it slow with puréed and that it would take a while for my pouch to adjust. She said to start with 2 tbsp this week, advance to 3 the next and then do 4 max for the remainder. Well with this first puréed deliciousness, it was like absolutely no problem to do 2 tbsp, and I curiously even tried to see if adding another would make a difference and I was easily able to do the 3rd! Is this normal??? I'm worried that my pouch is already too loose, it's a deep paranoia that maybe it isn't as small as other people's, it's weird. But I'm only one week out and I don't think I should be able to physically fit that much in, let alone for it to not feel uncomfortable :/ For those of you who aren't noobs, how much were you able to eat during the puréed phase? Am I beating myself up? It's weird to be complaining because something is too easy, but it's creeping a deep paranoia into my dumb little brain, and I just want to make sure everything is okay. Since it's SO okay, you know?
  8. Thanks for all the feedback, guys!! I was so worried, so it's nice to see that it's not just me! [emoji4]

    8 days post op

I don't know if that's dumping syndrome or not, but if you don't mind me oversharing, I'll tell you that I'm 7 days out and did have diarrhea-ish poo for a few days, which was my first poo since the surgery. I felt like it had more to do with all the gas that was coming through and my body just adjusting to the new system. Today and yesterday, I'm happy to report, I'm having much more "normal" poos But honestly, I don't know if that's the same thing you're dealing with. I just thought I'd share in case it helped! (Plus it's fun to say "poo" )
  10. Thanks!! And YAS! I am totally excited about pureed phase! I can't wait to not be only drinking sweet things, and to get some "food" flavored things back in!

  12. I agree with Orlando. A lot of people recommend to take several weeks, but I work an office job that is semi-flexible with things like walking around and stuff, and I'm already back this week after having RNY last Tuesday. You will feel tired and probably have trouble staying focused, but for me I just didn't have the option to take that much time off work, and I feel great! Good luck!
  13. I also had RNY on the 15th! Was released on the 16th and though foggy and sleepy, felt MUCH better than day 1! I was also not prepared for the pain! Now, having been home 2 days, I'm already feeling like my old self! I have enough energy to run errands, and have been walking around a lot! But I'm definitely slow and get the gas pains, but now the incision sites don't hurt as much! I had a lot of extra pain, I'm told, because I had a hernia that needed repair, my doctor "shaved" (I think that's the term?) my liver for fat, and I had some bleeding in the spleen, so really it was more my liver and/or spleen that was hurting the most. But now I'm up and going and it's much better! I agree with Linda about the head hunger... Though I wouldn't say it's hunger, because physically I can't imagine eating anything right now, but I made my family dinner tonight and OH my god it smelled infinitely better than my protein shakes!! can't wait until puréed phase! [emoji4]
  14. Does anyone know how soon you can have gummy Vitamins post-op? I know they aren't recommended for the main Multivitamin because they aren't complete, but I found a gummy Biotin for hair and nails, and thought that might be a good solution until I am past the chewable vitamins stage. BUT I wasn't sure how soon post-op gummies would be allowed. Thanks!!
  15. Thanks guys! Back home as of yesterday and feel great! More sore than expected, since I also had a hernia that I didn't know about. But I'm up and about today, it's all good!
  16. I am beyond excited right now!! I just finished the last of my "homework" yesterday with lab work and had an appointment coming up this week to determine what comes next... thinking that's when they'd submit for insurance approval and then I'd have an eternity to wait and see if it went through. IMAGINE my surprise when I get a call today and they said that not only had they already submitted for approval, but it was approved and I have my date set for 2 WEEKS!!!! March 15th, baby! That's one wonderful birthday present to myself (March 7th!) I'M WALKING ON CLOUDS IN SUNSHINE UNDER A RAINBOW!!!!

    Two days!

I'm getting the butterflies now! Two days until my gastric bypass and in having difficult focusing on anything else! I'm a little worried about the magnesium citrate I have to take tomorrow. Has anyone had half a bottle in the morning? What should I expect? Wow! It's getting real!!
  18. Wow, good luck!!! Mine is the day after, on the 15th! I'm getting so excited, now that's it's real!!! ENORMOUS HUGS and best of luck to you!! You'll do great!

    One month Post-op update

Thanks for the share! It's good to get a realistic picture of what to expect. Sounds like you're doing great, though!
  23. You guys! I'm one week away from having surgery! (GBP RNY) I feel like I've had months to prepare, I've read every forum post, I've scoured every Pinterest board, I've read every detail about Protein, macros, etc in preparation, but now that I'm 7 DAYS AWAY (OMG!) I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! Does anyone have any advice? What should I stock in my house for the week back? What have you all found that was helpful for transitioning back to work? What did you bring to the hospital? I feel like I've been studying for months but now that it's so close, my mind is going blank! HELP!!! Also OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!! :) :)
  24. Best of luck to you! I'm scheduled for next week and already wish it were tomorrow! You'll do great!!! <3
  25. I've got my surgery coming up and this is one of the main worries I have, too! My plan is to try and find some other thing that satisfies that "thing", that addiction / feeling that you "need" something to cure boredom, the blues, etc. I haven't figured it out yet, but maybe exercise or reading a book or getting a pedicure or buying a nice new outfit? I'm curious what people who've gone through the surgery have to share on this, too!
