Your PCP will do the documentation. My surgeon sent a form for them to fill out after I completed it. I'm not sure what your doctor's procedure for that would be but you should definitely make an appointment with your surgeon for a consultation and they will let you know what you need to do. My surgeon's office walked me through every step of the way! Good luck

Try eating with baby utensils. It helped me in the beginning. Also cut up your food real small before you start to eat.

Cigna approved mine right away. I had to have documentation of a 6 months medically supervised diet, BMI of 35+ and at least 2 comorbidities. They paid 100 % of my surgery and for all of the preop testing and procedures. I only had to pay copays. I'm not sure if yours is the same but I had a great experience with them. Good luck!

They will most likely want to know about your history and your current support system. They just want to make sure you are aware of the process and that your intentions are in the right place and that you have support around you. It's nothing to be stressed about. Mine was quick and easy. Good luck! Post after you go

It sounds like you were stuck. Drink some warm fluids to soothe your stomach because it is probably swollen now but it's okay though it's happened to all of us! Good luck!

I feel the same way. I was losing great and then I was too tight last summer but was losing fast so I left it that way (bad I know). When I couldn't take it anymore I went to the doc and he removed a lot because I asked him to. Well after that I started gaining the weight back. I have gained 30 pounds back. I went and got a small fill but I was afraid to fill back to what it was when i was too tight (this was December 2011). I have not lost since that fill and have not been back to the doctor either. I do feel some restriction but not like when I was really losing. I just started working out again so hopefully that will jump start the loss again. I am debating going for a fill again but I just don't want to be too tight again. UGH I hate this...so yea I can relate to your struggles. HATE IT!!!

Dr. O is my doctor also. I am so happy with him. The whole staff is so nice. I had my surgery 10/27/09. I've had one fill and I go back next week for another. Good luck on your journey everyone!

I didn't have to pay for my psych or my nutritional evaluation. Maybe it was the place that you went to? Maybe they just don't go through insurances. I'm not sure but I would double check and maybe you can reschedule for somewhere that takes your insurance so you don't have to pay out of pocket. Just a thought. My experience with Dr. O's office staff and whole process has been positive. No hidden fees and very up front about everything and so helpful!
I knew my insurance required a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program before approval so I did that before I went for my consultation with the surgeon. I did that from December-June and had my consultation July 8, 2009. After the consultation, I completed all of the preop testing and was approved and scheduled for October 27, 2009. Good luck!

I'm going October 27th! I'm so excited. I had boot camp yesterday (hospital tour, met with anesthesiologist, spoke with surgeon and signed consents). The countdown is on! Woohoo :seeya:

Hi Jen,
I am going to Atlantic Care also. My surgery date is October 27. I have not had any out of pocket expenses. I am with Dr. Onopchenko though...not sure if they have different guidelines. What kinds of things came out of pocket for you? Good luck on your journey!

Sometimes I add greek yogurt (or regular yogurt) for flavor and it also thickens the shake. I also add banana and Peanut Butter and that works too!
