  1. HI there! My doctor doesn't require a pre op diet, but after reading up on the benefits, I have decided to go at it anyhow. I am staying lower carb and fats and higher Protein. My question is that I have noticed that I am peeing like crazy, and It smells like a nasty cardboard medicine cabinet. Anyone else?? I have been drinking a couple of high Protein shakes a day....so is this all just normal? (my surgery date is december 3rd) ~Mya

    Artificial Sweeteners?

Stevia is awesome and actually an herb....so it isn't processed weirdly like some artificial sweeteners can be. I think those other types of sweeteners (like aspartame) are listed neurotoxins (like MSG). ewwwww. I don't want to use artificial anything and have been really nervous about that part of this journey. I am so glad to see people finding other alternatives and doctors finally recognizing that those "other" sweeteners arent' all they are cracked up to be. :tongue2:

    December Bandsters 2009

Hi everyone, I am to be banded December 3rd also! I think it's funny how we all get banded in bundles, lol. Anyhow, I am self pay and chose to have surgery away from home. I have been trying to find a regular support group in town because I don't get the" full package" having chosen out of the country care. I feel ready and have an awesome support system here. I do get nervous when I hear others talk about pre surgery classes/ special tests though. I don't want to miss out on a vital part. kwim? I have been looking into wls for about 10 years, and have seriously considered it for the past three. I feel very well informed about the surgery itself, and only a little nervous to go through it. I will be going with a friend who is also getting banded. It's nice to share December with all of you!! ~Mya:biggrin:
  5. Hi there! I am not a patient of Dr. Kouras, but found your post and wondered if you had found any support groups for us patients in Sac. I have been looking and looking and have been unable to find any groups in the area. I am set to be banded in December and have so many questions and feelings about the whole experience. thanks!! ~Mya

    New to the Community

Thanks for the reply! I just started thinking about not being able to lift the little guys, lol. I had major surgery about 2 years ago, and I had the same drill. (but I wondered if it would be the same since this isn't a "major" surgery. ) One problem I seem to be having is that because it will be right before Christmas, my inlaws are having a hard time understanding that I might not want to host the big Christmas get together. I was thinking it might be wayyyy to much and kind of mean to expect me to prepare all the yummy holiday food when I will still not be even eating "real" food yet. My dh is also being kinda wierd trying to commit us to the company Holiday Party (think 3 day get away in tahoe with drinking and partying, lol) that will potentially be a few days after I return from surgery. Do you have any advice with how to deal with people who don't "get it"? I actually would have preferred not to tell anyone (especially the in laws) but couldn't figure out a way to get around it since it's the Holiday season. KWIM?
  7. Hello everyone, My name is Mya and I am currently pre op. My surgery is set for December 3rd and I am getting pretty jumpy! I have 5 children and am hoping to get an idea of how this might affect them or how I might feel after surgery (as in, what kind of support system I might need in place). I have approx 150 lbs to lose and am so excited to finally get a handle on my weight issue. I have been overweight since after my first pregnany (approx 14 years ago). I am wondering if there are any others here who have wieght issues who don't necessarily binge. I know this is a heated topic, and I mean to offend no one. I have found that most who decide on bariatric surgery have a negative relationship with food. I used to have a VERY negative realtionship with food in my early adolescence( I was bulemic/anorexic) and I wonder what effect this has had on my weight and may have on this journey. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! ~Mya
