  1. I just read your post and couldn't help but write. You DON'T suck. But we're all different, and it seems like you are going to need to be really filled fully to experience restriction. I have far less than anyone else in my band - and when I have too much I puke my guts up. We're all so different. I think you're right, though, your doctor is the jerk. We feel badly enough about ourselves without our doctors beating us up emotionally. You chose the band for a good reason, and I trust that eventually you will get to a better place with it. In the meantime, have you looked for another doctor in your area? The guy who did the surgery does not have to be the guy who does the fills. Good luck.

Karyn: I'm so glad you had some (or all ) of that fill taken out. I've had that same experience twice and it scared the pants off of me. I'm sorry you had to go through it, too. I couldn't swallow my own saliva during the night and woke up choking a million times - then just stopped trying and went to the doctor. As soon as that fill came out, I was my normal self again. Sounds like your fills are going to end up at .5 or .3 CCs like mine. I'm so relieved you're feeling better, though.

Hey ... were you serious that you made a personal goal of 10 pounds per week? I can never, I mean NEVER lose that much. Not even when I'm only drinking protein shakes. I think I topped out at seven in the very beginning, but now it's pretty much 2 to 4 on very carefully planned weeks that include exercise. Just goes to show how different we all are!!

DizzyLizzy you are doing great!!! I have recently joined the gym and the workouts are kicking my butt! It's so cool that you're so motivated. We have to pump one another up, that's what I think, and reading your post definitely made me feel charged and ready! Thank you.

Ok guys, well I'm the opposite. For a few days to a week after a fill, I can barely eat anything at all, which would be a terrible drag on a road trip where everyone is eating. I end up getting stuck when I try, or eating sliders which we all know is dumb! Kinda like IlluminationLady. Anyway, for me the easiest thing would be to make a commitment to control what I ate without the fill first. But that's just me. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Congratulations!! That's the best reason in the world to put things on hold! I hope you have smooth sailing from now until you deliver!

Thanks so much for sharing Mandz. I can relate to so much of what you say. The sizes are so giant when you're in 22s and 24s that it takes forever to go down. I had lost 35 pounds before I went from size 22 to 20. Hard to believe. The good news is that the smaller sizes are much less ample - skinny people size are more like 10 pounds difference. You'll get there if you keep up the good work! Like you, I have been very frustrated that people have "noticed" .. it's not that nobody has, but for example: I get dressed up, put on makeup and go to my brother's house about every other week. I have lost 70 pounds, and he and his wife haven't said a thing! I keep thinking maybe they think I'll be insulted if they say I look like I've lost weight. But like most of us, I most certainly will not be insulted by a compliment on my Weight loss!

Thank GOD I don't have little kids around now. I couldn't help but eat a little of everything while the kids were little. I agree with Mel, get that stuff out of the house. You deserve a house free of really tempting obstacles. And a five pound month is nothing to sneeze at!!!

It is VERY HARD to manage travel. Hell, it is hard enough to manage at home where we are in control of everything. It's no wonder you had a gain after 18 days away. I really believe that practice is what makes us improve, and that there is a lesson to be learned even in that five pound gain. Don't freak, and don't feel too badly about the doctor - he wants you to do well and sometimes we hear things even worse than they were intended (or not, I mean, I wasn't there and you were!). But five pounds is probably a TON less than some of your old gains. It's sure a lot less than some of my vacation gains. Jump back on the track - you can do it and already HAVE done so well!!

Wow, Missy, that's terrible. I have had similar pain, but only when I ate too much in the weeks after my surgery. Now the only time I have pain like that is when my band is too tight. If I were you I would call the doctor's office and speak with someone. I have no idea why your band would be ACTING as if it is too tight. Could it be evidence of something having moved or changed? Who knows, but I bet you'll feel some relief just KNOWING what's going on. Good luck - you've come so far already.

That's a drag, Deanna. Pay attention to the things that make you sick and avoid them (obviously!). You may need to have a bit of the fill taken out - I've had to have that done twice because I seem to be a little delicate (said with a hearty laugh because I can hardly believe it!). When I get fills now then only put in .5 cc, and even then I occasionally have a few days of throwing up and nasty burps and chest pain. Hope you are better soon!

I was a bit sad because I had no kids home for the holiday - but the good part about that was that there were no candy challenges! I managed. For those of you with little ones, Easter must have been pretty tough! Glad we got through it.

I'm with them - lie! The skinny people never have a problem not eating, and if I feel anything when they say "I'm full" or "I'm just not feeling hungry" I'm feeling jealous! You're doing so incredibly well! Don't you feel badly one way or the other! Look at what you've already accomplished!!

You're right - forget everyone else's pace. You're doing fabulously!! All that walking is burning calories AND making you tighter. Good work!

Well I'm glad you're here and posting! It's a good way (for me) to keep the focus. And when I'm not focused, I'm dangerous to myself! 32 pounds is nothing to sneeze at! Congratulations!

So you think our bands get looser and tighter on their own? I had never thought of that. I just thought that after a while they got looser and need a fill, you get a fill, and then wait for it to get loose again. So you're saying it can "feel" tighter whether you get a fill or not? I've never THOUGHT about it, but now I will!

Did you recently have a fill? The last time I had a fill I had to go very easy for a few WEEKS before things got back to normal. At least now you know what to expect. I still can't eat eggs, of all things! Enjoy your time away and have fun!

Um exercise?!! Let's not even GO there! That's right, you're exercising - you're way ahead of me. The scale can be such a bummer, and there are times where it just doesn't do us justice. Try on some of your too big clothes. Remember how they used to fit!? You did that, and you will continue to do it. Forget the scale for now and keep up the good work. Restriction will come ... and then you'll have the funny (gross) burps and gurgly sounds every time you eat. My students have no idea what's wrong with me!!

Tracy - I think we're all different. My band has like 5 cc in it, maybe a little more, I'm not even sure, but I have restriction. Hunger is a different thing, though. Today, for example, I'm super tired (didn't get enough sleep before work) and I'm STARVING even though yesterday I couldn't eat more than a fistful of chicken and a half a serving of oatmeal. But when I'm tired I am hungry. The band keeps me from eating much too much of anything, so I can never get as much as a half a slice of pizza down, much less three pieces. I feel certain that when you finally get filled to the point that gives you restriction, you won't be able to eat much either. But we all seem to have different amounts needed to reach that point. You're probably right near there, though, so I hope your next fill brings you relief. In the meantime, stop making food choices that will only make you feel annoyed with yourself in the long-term. Remember the thin person you want to be! You're on your way, but remember her.

I did something equally stupid today! I had a very long day at work yesterday followed by a trip with the BAND KIDS to the theatre. I didn't get home until 11:30 and am exhausted today. In my daze I FORGOT my lunch. What a drag. There is nothing that goes down easily here at school and I'm already hungry because I'm tired. (Is everyone else overly hungry when overly tired?) I wish I had another cup of coffee!
  21. Are you kidding? I have been going to Weight Watcher's on Saturday mornings for the past 100 years or so. There are mornings where I practically strip NAKED (Ok, I'm exaggerating) before getting on the scale. This week I honestly took my WATCH off!
  22. It's just another diet - but with help! You have to be willing to seriously restrict your eating even when your BAND allows you to eat more! Tough, but true. But your success will help you stay motivated. People told me to eat protein first, a great idea, but I fought it for a bit thinking the band was supposed to make my weight magically disappear! Hah - it hasn't. I'm working pretty darned hard at it! Just keep working it, your success has already started!
  23. Hi .. my name is Rosemary! Yeah, I've been a WW member for 28 years now (hard to believe!). I've gotten down 130 pounds more times than I like to admit, but always ended up gaining most of the weight back. Last year I finally decided this was BS and made an appointment with a doctor for help. Since WW introduced the "Core" I have counted few points. I eat entirely "filling foods" as they call them now and only count the five points a day that aren't core, for example the cream in my coffee or the dessert on occasion. I had more success with that than most people ever do on points anyway; last year I lost 90 pounds (and then binged it back on again, go figure). I adore my meeting and the friends I've made there - I even made us a message board on Yahoo and we're friends on Facebook so that we keep in touch during the week. I think you'll be happy you went back!

  24. Don't worry about not losing after surgery. It was a bit slow for me at first, too. And the fills don't exactly stop hunger - at least they haven't for me. But before I was a really terrific loser. I have lost 130 pounds about six times. The thing is, I always gain it back eventually. So I look at the band as a helper; the helper that will make me permanently successful. Slow and steady is how you are going to beat fat! And you will!

  25. I was banded December 16 and have had two fills. A few days after the first fill my apetite (and capacity) came back. I watched it and continued to lose, but I struggled more than I imagined I would. My second fill was Monday, and I became terribly sick a little while after, threw up for two days straight and had to go back in to have half of it removed. Even after that I was still pretty nauseous but I waited and today I am feeling much better. As to the gurgling sound, that was the first warning that my band was too tight; when I drank a tiny sip of water after the fill, my throat gurgled. I find my stomach gurgles now when I'm hungry and also when food is passing through the band!
