    Smoking and the Bandit

My surgeon told me I had to quit also. Its been 1 month!! I have my bad days, and I occassionally have a cup of coffee to take the edge off in the mornings. Its a struggle everyday, but I like smelling pretty and not like an ashtray anymore. Now other people who smoke stink to me.

    Nyu

I am also getting my surgery done at NYU. The big day is Nov. 10th. I had many choices of Protein shakes. I had a list of choices in the booklet given to me by the nutritionist. I am using designer whey protein that is 97% lactose free and I mix it with almond milk. I don't tolerate dairy well. The only issue I am having is that the surgical coordinator is a bit ummm...idk. But she rushes me off the phone when I have questions. I don't care though. I always call back if I didnt understand something. I think she might be on speed cause she talks a thousand miles and hour and explains too much at once. So its her fault I had to call back so many times to be sure I understood everything. She had a hard time understanding that I had to have all my pre surgical testing done within 7 days of the surgery in order for insurance to cover it. She got an attitude because I asked about changing my pre surgical testing date. You would think should would be familar with insurance companies enough to know that they may have this 7 day requirement. But anyway, once I have the testing done and get my clearance, hopefully I won't have to deal with her anymore. But Dr. Kurian and the nutritonist were awesome when I met them 8 months ago.

    Pre-Op Diet ROCKS!!!

For my pre op diet, I'm using designer whey protein powder. Got 4 different flavors. Its 97% lactose free. Its pretty good mixed with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and unsweetened chocolate almond milk. I am lactose intolerant and a little confused about the effects of too much soy. So I stick to the almond milk.
  9. I am sure you won't get rejected. The psych eval is just a formality. They just wanna know you can handle what's to come.
  10. With your pre surgical testing, were the results reviewed by your primary physician or the surgeon? I am a little worried about getting my medical clearance in on time. My pre surgical tests are scheduled for Nov 3rd. My results have to be sent to my primary and she has to review it and send in the clerance to my surgeon by the 6th. Hope it all goes well without a glitch.
  11. So are you eating solid foods or is it protein shakes? You certainly can lose the 14 pounds on a low carb diet. Isn't it great to know you won't put it back on. Yay!
  12. To all the November 2009 bandsters. If you use AIM, my screen name is melloways1 my yahoo screen name is calm_n_mellow1 add me as a friend. Looking forward to this journey with all of you.
  13. Wow. 700 calories. Be strong! I was complaining about 1000 cal.
  14. Yes. Sounds very similar. 1000 cal, at least 50 grams protein, mostly shakes, sugar free jello and beverages, allowed 2 cups of non starchy veggies a day with nothing on it of course. What protein are you using?
  15. Woo Hoo!! We are bandmates! I get banded Nov.10th. I am actually looking forward to the pre op diet, just to see if I have the willpower. My pre op diet is super strict. What's yours like?
  16. Wow, my pre op diet is a bit different. I am allowed 1000 calories, 35 grams fat. Have to get at least 50 grams of protein a day. Can only have protein shakes, 2 cups of raw or cooked veggies (no starchy veggies), sugar free drinks, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, and low salt broth. Hope I make it through the two weeks. I start the diet Monday.
  17. Hello fellow "soon-to-be" bandsters! My surgery date is Nov. 10th and I have been totally obsessed with research. It's hard to concentrate on other things when all I can think about is the surgery. So excited and optimistic.
