    Hello!...Post Surgery Newbie

first couple weeks are the toughest. I was banded on 10-06-09 and am now down 56lbs post surgery and went from a 46 jeans down to a 38 and I have not been exercising that much. Work with your band and your DR. and it will work for U!

    Cookie exchange madness

this time of the year is definatly tough! I was at my Mom's house yesterday for dinner, and she gave everyone a small package of chocolate. Now I will not act as if I am on a diet, so I allowed myself to eat one, then it became 2 and I found myself ready to eat the last 2. Luckily I caught myself about to eat the 3rd one pretty much by habit.(old habits die hard) so I was able to give the last 2 pcs to my kids and felt better afterwards. Big challenges comming up with all the party's and such. Stay strong, if we can make it 2 more weeks then we are safe till valentines!
  10. I am 41, I had my band done 10 weeks ago back in Oct. lost 46lbs already! Almost 60 lbs if you include the 3 week preop diet. I am very glad to see so many people doing this in their 20's I would not hesitate to tell someone to do it.

    Drinking after surgery

I am a biker who is in a club, and the only thing we really do is ride and Party! I am about 10 weeks post op and down about 40lbs so far and I drink about once a week. I used to drink pretty heavy pre surgery, but now I am much more careful due to the calorie intake. I have stayed away from Beer and soda (hard since I love Burbon and coke) but have found whiskey sours to be just fine. I mix them myself, using crystal light lemonade and they are pretty good. If I'm @ the bar I just order a shot and a glass of water then I mix my own and has never been an issue yet. I would be careful right after post op, alcohol and meds don't mix well. Other than that, drink and be merry!

    Fills and doctor drama...

If your band is not full and the Dr. will not give you a fill than find another Dr. I have only had 1 fill, but my Dr. has told me repeatedly that I control weather or not I need a fill, he may choose the amount, but I am the one who decides when.
  14. If you are having issues with your Dr, find another one in your area. You just need to get back on track and maybe a fresh face and fresh ideas will help. Good luck

    feeling like a failure

55lbs is more than a lb per week. The Dr. told me to expect 1-2 lbs per week. If you loose 1/2 that again in the next year that's 80lbs! I do not know your wieght or bmi, but I started @ over 300lbs @ 5'7 and if I can only manage to loose 80lbs in 2 yrs I definatly will not look @ it as failure! Like the others said, back to the Dr and back to basics. slow and steady will win this race! It's your life and you are now over 50lbs lighter than last new year's.:willy_nilly: in my world, that's hardly failure!

    liquid diet

Do not cheat! If you find it okay to cheat before the surgery than you will rationalize cheating afterwards. You need to make a commitment to YOURSELF that you can do this. I was on Liquids for 3 weeks Post op, I had some complications during the surgery so I was on Liquids a week longer than normal. If you cheat, you may find that you wake up from the surgery with a very large bill and no band. It is not uncommon for Dr's to not give the band if they think the patient is not following orders. Not trying to get down on you, just trying to give you the facts. You can do it, but only you can make that commitment. The work is not over after the surgery, it is mearly the beginning of good things to come. However you do need to work @ it and have personal commitment to your goal.

    Am i a failure?

you are not a failure, you just have not hit your sweet spot yet therefore the band is not fully working for you. Some people need 5 or 6 fills to get to their sweet spot before the wieght starts coming off. Not all victories can be judged by the scale either. How do your cloths fit? any improvement? What about your energy level? Check with your Dr. and see if they have a support group you can attend. I sind them VERY helpful myself. Good luck, but keep in touch with your DR. that is the KEY TO SUCESS!

    scared of getting a fill

had my first fill 2 weeks ago, really was no big deal @ all. It was done in no time with zero pain. I have lost an additional 10 lbs. since then too. I did have 1 minor problem the first day since I did not do liquids the first 24 hrs. and I just a normal. That was a mistake, must do liquids for 24hrs to let your stomach get used to the restriction. Other than that, smooth sailing! good luck, read up on this fourm and it will answer a ton of questions. It sure did for me.:w00t:

    Banded Bikers II

Welcome Deb, took my oldest Daughter for a ride this past weekend and it was first time she has been riding with me since I was banded 2 months ago. She said it was actually easier on her since I am not as wide as before so she did not have to move her legs as wide and she laughed and said she can actually wrap her arms all the way around me now. Ah good times!

anyone have high blood pressure ?

I dont remember if it was high right after surgery, but I went to Dr. last week and it was best its been in 5 years! I am 7 weeks post op and have lost about 40lbs since surgery and it has come down around 30-40 points. It was 112 over 64 best it has been in years, still about 75lbs from goal, but bp is on its way to being normal again. Cant wait to quit takin them bp pills!
  22. Very sound advice! tell him how you feel and do not allow this distructive behavior to continue! and yes I am a guy too, who got very fat eating the same crap they are flaunting in front of you

    My first fill

had my first fill last mon., I definatly have restriction now. I made the mistake of trying to eat the same after the fill as I did before it. That was a big mistake! I should have done liquids for 24hrs. The fill itself was painless and done before I knew what was happening, but I ate about 1/2 of a brautwurst and thought I would die! took it much easier for next couple of days and tonight I was able to eat steak and shrimp with no problems even ate a little brocolli with no issues. Good luck and give yourself a day or so on the liquids, youll be much happier than I was.
  24. I'm in! gotta be a lil more aggresive with my goal, only 5lbs off my new years goal now!
