Thanks. I will call them this week. I just worry how much a visit will cost. I'm going to be self pay and the funds will not be available until the end of May.

Hearing these stories really scare me. Don't know now if I should do it or not. Has anyone dealt with these complications and paid for the original surgery in cash? If so, how could you afford it? I guess that is what I'm most scared about, not being able to afford if I get a leak. I have insurance but my bmi is not high enough so I plan on getting a loan for the surgery. If something goes wrong, I can't afford if something happens.

Wondering if anyone in North Carolina has done self pay option. If so, how much and where in NC?

I hope I can find someone close by for that price.

I have borrowed from my 401 k before and I love using that as an option. The payment comes directly out of my paycheck so I don't ever have to worry about forgetting to pay it or being late on it. I also don't have to worry about the interest going up on my payments either. For me its the best option, and its paid off in five years or earlier if I want to pay it off quicker. To me it's worth it for weight loss. I'm getting close to 40 years old and starting to have health problems because of my weight. My knees ate starting to give me problems, I have no energy, I've had back surgery so losing weight would be worth it.

I may try to see if insurance will pay, but I highly doubt it. I plan on borrowing from my 401k to pay for it. I really want the sleeve instead, but its pretty new so I hope I can find a local doctor to do it.

Hi. I am new to posting on this site, but not browsing LOL! Anyway, I also have UHC, and I checked online to see that my insurance does allow gastric bypass surgery so I'm assuming that they allow the lap band. Anyway, like others, mine says I have to have a BMI of 40, but I only have a BMI of 37. I know I am getting on up in there into high cholesterol and I believe I have some form of sleap apnea. I have not been to the doctor in over a year, but the doctor I used to go to was trying to help me lose weight with pills. I did loose about 30 lbs. but gained it all back. I don't think it's been 5 years since I had been seeing that dr. but it would be close. I am wondering if there is any chance I could be approved or should I not waste my time. I know I will probably try anyway, I just hate to be shot down. I want to stop the weight gain before I get too big. I know I'm big now, but I also know it can get a lot worse.
