I'm being banded on May 9th and I'm scared that I'm not as prepared as I should be. I know I have to stay on the liquid diet after the surgery for atleast a week but what kind of liquids are best? Do I need shakes that are high in Protein, do I need to buy a liquid gas reducer? Any suggestions?

Herbal supplements, energy boosters..

Is it okay to take medications like Stacker 2's after being banded? I take these on a daily basis to give me energy and I'd hate to have to give them up. -
I don't have a pre-op diet either unless you count what I'm doing now which is 48 hours of Clear liquids and laxatives but that's nothing compared to what some people have posted here such as a month long liquid diet and so on. I think surgeons have different approaches to the way they like to do their surgeries and what works best for them is what they reccommend. and since I keep getting overlooked.. I'm being banded TOMORROW!! YaY me!

I'm being banded tomorrow and I feel the same way even though I haven't had the surgery yet! I hope they give me a manual or something lol. Good luck going back to work!

Well, that's great news! My surgery is tomorrow, I'll be glad to get it over with!

When I went last week to my P.A.T., I was sick as well with the same things.. and they asked if I felt like I was getting better or worse, what color my phlem/mucus was and if I had been running a fever and told me to drink plenty of liquids to flush out the mucus from my chest and make sure I take a decongestant to clear it up as much as possible before surgery BUT if I got any worse to call and let them know such as a fever, sinus infection etc.. but I don't see why they would call off my surgery if I didn't have a fever or if I just had a common cold due to allergies or whatever.

Okay, I have the majority of the list but I'm also wondering... in the liquid phase ( and probably afterwards as well ) do I have to cut out all foods that aren't sugar or fat free if I don't have any health problems.. aside from being fat, I mean.. because I love my Gatorade and I don't think they make a sugar-free one yet lol
-
Thanks so much. They haven't called to tell me my surgery time yet either and that just adds to the nervousness... Oh, and btw.. they put me on a 48 hour liquid laxative regimen ( bleah!! ) does anyone have any tips on how to get that gross stuff down without gagging?

Woohoo! Congratulations everyone on joining BANDland. I'm being banded TOMORROW! :faint: I think the receptionist at the surgeon's office was right... it's exciting until you get to the day before surgery and then the scariness kicks in. :omg:

More Hoops To Jump Through

Wow, that's crazy! You'd think doctor and surgeon documentation on your weight would be enough. -
Days missed due to surgery?
ShayDee replied to teacherchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for the 9th as well ( good luck to you! ) and due to circumstances beyond my control.. I have to be at work on Friday so I'm hoping I'm one of those cases that bounces right back after the surgery. -
Hi, wow.. hey, congrats!! I wouldn't worry about the aproval letter because I never recieved one either but ended up calling and they said that it was approved.. Anywho.. i found out today that I *won't* have my surgery on May 3rd... but will have to have an ultrasound, more bloodwork and then go to the surgery clinic ( whatever that is ) instead. But.. what I don't understand is they told me in my intial consultation that when I came back for my Upper G.I. then I'd have my surgery the same day so I don't get it. It's frustrating too having to keep making plans and then having to break the plans.. ugh But oh well.. I'm gonna push for the next closest available date for my surgery now that I have the go ahead from my employer. Keep in touch and let me know how your experience is going... good luck with everything!!

Same here! My surgery is scheduled on May 3rd. I'm a little more excited than nervous.. had my wisdom teeth cut out not too long ago and i figure if I can live through that i'll be alright with this lol

My doctor told me it was fine to drink diet soda as long as you add a little water to dilute it a bit but of course, they prefer you drink water.

Geesh. Okay, so I've been smoking since I was 14. I'm 24 now so that's a good ten years and lord knows I feel the effects of it on my lungs and the rest of my body. And like the doctors say.. I'm having this surgery to improve my health and quality of life so I should quit smoking before I have the surgery and I want to so bad but for the past 10 years.. these damn things have been the stress reliever of my life and I guess you could say my crutch. I know I need to give it up but I'm so scared that if I give it up, I'll turn to eating more to overcome my cravings for nicotine and thus gain more weight or I'll get so irritable and miserable that no one around me will be able to stand me. Or maybe I'm just making excuses? I started taking my calcium pills today because my bones seem to ache all the time from all this weight and when I had my pretests done at the hospital my bloodwork came back and said I have a vitamin D deficency so I'm hoping this will help somewhat. And as of right now.. I have 1 month and 1 day left until my surgery and I'm getting so excited but I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous about my job.. well, I just got a job at a distribution center for Dollar General and it requires heavy lifting but I found out the day after I got the job offer that my surgery will be next month and I'm a little scared to tell my supervisor because as of right now, I haven't even started the job yet ( waiting on background check to come back ) so by the time I get in there.. the surgery date will be less than a month away and what if they fire me? Can they fire me for medical leave? Ugh, it's so stressful!!

So.. my surgery is like a little over a month away and I'm a little worried about the diet afterwards. I mean, what's the easiest way to adjust to the diet if you don't know how to eat healthy or live healthy? Should I go ahead and do a gym membership now or should I make changes to my lifestyle beforehand? Don't get me wrong. I love this site, there's a lot of information on here that's been helpful in my decision to have this surgery but I wish it were easier to talk with people about the surgery and their experiences or better yet.. a local group session would be awesome too. Does anyone have any suggestions on making the transition from fat slob to healthy happy person? lol :hungry:

Hi, Well.. thanks for that list because a lot of that stuff on there I hadn't even thought about! lol And I was just curious... how long are you expected to stay out of work after the surgery in general? I've heard different things but just wondering if your surgeon told you the same as mine lol Good luck with your journey and thanks again for the list!! Shannon

was your surgery? I finished my evaluation on January 9th.. I've done all the other requirements demanded by insurance.. the 6 month documentation, I've had blood work done, went to my seminar, all that good stuff.. but I was wondering how long was it between finishing your requirements until your actual surgery date? I'm sure it differs, I just want a general idea.. i'm getting so anxious.

Well that figures! We don't have those kinds of things here... well, probably in major cities which of course I don't live in so.. that's out of the question. But thankfully, the internet lets me get on here so I did get a great deal of my information from this website so when my consult with my surgeon came up I really didn't have any questions for him.. lol Then again, there are some questions that only other bandsters can answer.
