Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
steelergirl replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely loved your post! It sums up all the frustration, hard work and accountability that others don't realize we as "band recipients" are responsible for. Beautifully written! BRAVO BRAVO! -
I absolutely L-O-V-E my Wii EA trainer.....I have done both the "pick your own" work out and the 30 day challenge. I do the moderate level. I look forward to doing this 5X a week. When I have my days off....I feel like i should be doing something other , but the "experts" tell me not to. Rest means rest! II have started doing more of the EA instead of splitting between the EA and the Wii Fit, step aerobics. I definitely sweat during all of my routines and I have seen a huge difference in the way my clothes are fitting!

Why I'm considering a lawsuit...

ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
The last conversation the nutritionist had with me went like this....."even if you add 1 Tbs of olive oil to veggies and toss with seasoning or add a snack to your daily calories, I want you to have 200-250 calories more per day" of course healthy calories. I do about 45-60 minutes of cardio 5X a week. Nothing crazy hard but I break a sweat and I can feel a difference in my muscles. To make it real simple, she wants me taking in a clear 900-1000 calories a day...not 1000 and then minus the exercise. I also work at a desk all day so, I don't count anything but my actual workout or if I do major household cleaning I will sometimes count that. I truly believe that I am responsible for screwing up my own metabolism through the yrs. The numbers that should make sense never do for me. BMR and all the others...

I really like your posts that I read...but on this one, I must disagree. I have gained weight on 800 calories a day many, many times. I am not a liquid calorie person, I drink nothing but Water, and I monitor not only my calories and Protein, but my sodium, saturated fats and carbs. I do not eat processed foods, ever. I measure out all of my servings and I have eliminated all added sugar...even with that, last week I was up 3 lbs. Not my TOM...I too have discussed with my nutritionist and a trainer that I know personally through work, they both said I was not eating enough. I have in the last 30 yrs. eaten way below 1000 calories and I have lost quickly. But my body, my metabolism and my hormones are making this a guessing game for not only me but the professionals that know for a fact that I am following this lap band to a "T". I have come to realize that there is no such thing as "IMPOSSIBLE" when it comes to the band.

I went out before surgery and bought 1 dessert/bread plate. It was bright red, yellow and black, heavy weight and I use it for every meal I eat at home! It makes me feel I am eating a whole plate of food. I purchased smaller spoons bt I really don't use them.......The plate has been great and I also bought bright colored measuring cups and I keep them on the counter for easy access. good luck to you

What is your favorite laxitive?
steelergirl replied to sdpressl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have used the stimulant laxatives for several yrs. 2 every night. Doctors think that when I was on diet after diet after diet for 10 yrs, I screwed up my "system". I was diagnosed with IBS about 4 yrs ago also because of this screw up. I drink a ton of water daily, well over min amount of fiber daily and i love veggies. Nothing moves me. Eating healthy has always had the opposite effect on me. Let me eat junk and fast food, and i live in the potty:) -
When will I feel decent again?
steelergirl replied to lamar44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded 11/12/09 and I really had a time of it in the beginning. I have an extreme tolerance for pain but adjusting to post surgery was very difficult for me. I went the first week not being able to drink almost anything and went back to work on 11/18/09. I had severe pain in my shoulder, i felt weak, i was dehydrated...just very very "yuck". It starts to play on your psyche and I was beginning to think I had made a huge mistake. But it begins to get better. By day 9....I felt almost liek me again. I was feeling guilty because I needed to rest all the time that first week. But i listened to my body and i rested when i needed......Hang in there! I swear it gets better! -

Being converted to gastric bypass......
steelergirl replied to ashleyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi- If I may...I remember reading an earlier post this month by you that was stating that your husband was coming home in the spring, you were stressed, in school, small child, not following your lapband diet, You were kicking yourself in the ass for not doing what you were supposed to be doing, you saw a friend that had lost a lot of weight, etc.... I also remember reading that you stated then that you had no restriction. Your band will only work with you if you work with it. Start from scratch if you need to. Have a straight up talk with your doc if you feel he is the right one. I wish you luck in your decision but please, please don't look for the easy way out when you are feeling stressed because of time crunch:smile2:. -

issues with alcohol after surgery
steelergirl replied to mushsbat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Something else I want to mention...(non-professional My body hates alcohol. I love it, but my body doesn't use it as just calories taking in. I could have 3 measured drinks and count calories and it would stall my lose or even make me gain. This has been true for the last 25 yrs for me and I know it has something to do with the way my body processes the sugar in alcohol. I can have 2 glasses of wine, literally 4 oz each and my weight is higher for at least 48 hours after. I get puffy and retain fluid. My body just doesn't do well with alcohol in my diet. Every time I have successfully lost weight I have excluded alcohol all together. And when I start to drink again, I start to gain again. I want to mention that I am not a regular drinker. Maybe 1-2 times a month....Just some food for thought -
Almost 4 weeks since surgery...Can I have a freakin drink??
steelergirl replied to Tiggerangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most things in life are OK in moderation. That includes food, alcohol, shopping, gambling...etc...etc. I could go on for days, but the fact of the matter is that this is all a learning experience because if we were all able to "control" ourselves and all of our things in moderation we wouldn't be on this board. So, with that....I have indulged twice since being banded. Prior to healthy lifestyle, I could easy drink a small bottle of wine at a holiday or dinner party. Since the band...half way through the first glass, I am buzzed. I like my new life! -
Please help me settle this once and for all........
steelergirl replied to howdybooth's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I absolutely agree! I could see if you were just filled a few days ago and I would say give it some time, but it's been 10 dyas. I would have to look at it from th epoint of..."Could I live like this and is it healthy for me?" Isn't that why we get the band to begin with?(at least partial reason...LOL) -
A little frustrated with myself...

Thank you so much! I will send you a personal message some time today. -
A little frustrated with myself...
steelergirl replied to kristik99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I actually make the mini meatloaves in a muffin pan. It usually makes a 2.75oz or 3 oz meatloaf. I was banded Nov 12. I started my pre surgery healthy eating Labor day of this year, I was 324lbs. I weighed in at 259 on Wednesday at doc's appt. I had lost 15lbs after surgery, but became dehydrated and gained 17 back after I started eating solid foods. At my 6 week followup 12/23 my weight was 285lbs. -
A little frustrated with myself...
steelergirl replied to kristik99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally- My biggest tool for success is being prepared. I cook on Sundays for the week. I prepare everything from scratch. This allows minimal sodium and sugar in the things I make. I make things like chicken salad, mini meatloaves, shrimp salad, hearty chili...etc. I have small containers 1/2 cup and 1 cup. Every evening before bed when I make my daughters lunch for school the following day, I get mine together as well and put in my lunch bag in the refrigerator all ready packed! This leaves less time to re-think my choices and if Im rushing out the door, no excuse for fastfood! I pack breakfast, lunch and late afternoon snack, because I leave the house at 615am and don't get dinner until 6pm. I am averaging 4-5 lbs loss a week and I have no cravings, and my hunger is under control or if I have an "off day" I have a snack. High protein of course. I keep an almond mixture at work, already portioned out. Just something that has worked for me and wanted to share! GOOD LUCK -
Keep in mind that if you use it on carpet, your weight will be significantly lower than true weight. This may get you on sooner if your over 330.

issues with alcohol after surgery
steelergirl replied to mushsbat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It does not take a long time for your body to become dependent on alcohol. Alcohol is a physically addictive substance. By stopping abruptly, you can die if not properly tapered or detoxed. It can cause tremors, seizures, spike in blood pressure, and many other major medical issues. Please talk to your doctor about this. I do not know how much or how long you have been drinking so I am speaking in general...... -
Really weird question for those who have lost a significant amount of weight :D
steelergirl replied to ♥Amy♥'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I actually feel/get taller! Now...I have to explain myself. Even at 340+ I NEVER had a butt. So I think I actually sit on my butt bone. HaHa:lol: I am tall to start with 5.9 but after losing these 60 pounds, I feel like Im 6ft tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Hey there! I first used the Wii Fit at 330+lbs. I was 324 in Sept 2009 and was doing 30 minutes of advanced step aerobics 4X a week. I had no idea there was a weight limit!! I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had known. In December I was 280-285lbs and was doing 5X a week advanced Step Aerobics AND 30 minutes of EA sports using the board. I wouldn't recommend jumping up and down on it, however....You could benefit from using it moderately until you get close to 300lbs. Just my 2 cents:thumbup:

I went in for my month follow-up from my first fill. I lost 24# in a month. He was not going to give me a fill, but we talked. I mean really talked. I explained that I didn't want to have vomiting and I wanted to be able to go to dinner or eat a meal with family without excusing myself! Too tight would not work for me. I explained that I was "dieting" had no stuck episodes BUT I was eating every 2 hours because I was hungry and my body was telling me it was hungry. I am also exercising 5 out of 7 days. I couod still gulp water and eat 6 oz of protein at dinner and 1 full cup of veggies! I have eliminated added sugar anbd most all carbs....He agreed to .75. I have been on liquids allday with no problem and had soup for dinner. I was full after 3/4 cup. I am looking forward to having this be my "sweet spot"!

Hair Loss, Protein, Bioten etc...
steelergirl replied to Mickey527's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of those things you are eating is great...but how much at each meal are you getting? If you are only eating a few bites of chicken or egg (per meal), thats not enough. Remember that your body can only use about 25gr of protein at a time. I have dieted in the past many times and lost a ton of hair....so far Im doing great with that. My nutritionist and I have actually discussed hair loss and she reviews my meal plans. Hope this helps -
